19.01.2022 Is this a question? Okay, so possibly there are still a few people out there who don't know of the benefits of weight training?! (surely not!). If this is you, ...then PLEASE read over this article. It outlines the basics although in a VERY generalised fashion. Otherwise a more relevant line of questioning is: - Why weight training, why not Aerobic based training? - What can I 'realistically' achieve in 3, 6, 12 months and onwards? - Is your training plan sustainable? - Are all weight training programs equal? We all have VERY different genetics, lifestyles, demands on our time and energy and therefore our recovery. So one plan does NOT suit everyone! Most people weight train too frequently often 4- 7 days a week - (twice a week, done correctly, is perfect for most peeps and will often give better results!!). Peeps mostly train without a plan, believing that going to the gym will just 'magically' transform their physiques. Peeps also train at inconsistent and adhoc intensities going by "how I feel on the day" - that's bullshit, sorry but it's just wrong! Then there's food! Wow, there's a minefield of misunderstanding right there. People fuel their bodies indifferently at best but mostly incorrectly and with little idea of what to eat, how much and how often. Then there is progression. How do we measure progress?! Well for people looking to lose weight, they'll use the scales right. Okay, so your weight went from 100 kg to 97 kg in a week, great...how much of that was Lean Muscle Tissue? - Huh! Why is that important and 3 kg is one week is awesome right?! .... um, nope! What was your starting Lean Muscle Mass, your bodyfat percentage, your daily calorie burn etc? If you don't know, you're already in trouble! TIP: Using the weight scales alone as an overall measure of progress is often deflating, inconsistent and uninformative.They don't give the full picture of how your progressing and progress can often be tedious at best. Scales alone are just too 'dumb' to understand 'real life' progress - Smart Scales are more useful, but again, just one tool you should have in a comprehensive "Progress Tool Box". https://www.abc.net.au//will-weight-training-keep/11240128

08.01.2022 Covid SuperHero Hack Little Jim users' safety is THE most important consideration, it has always been the case, but of course, the lens is now fully focused through Covid-19! With a mind toward increasing safety further and in-line with my Peak Bodies' requirement of "No Spitting", I've looked for a hack to make "The Blowers" at Little Jim, of which I'm one, reduce their impact on our training space.... I'm experimenting with a flexible fabric from the Australian company Headskinz, who've made these solutions for years principally for motorcyclists, cyclists, campers etc. The idea of course, is that when doing those really hard repetitions, you may well be forcing out a lot of air mixed with fluid droplets which is where the Headskinz, pulled up to nose level becomes a barrier to stop those droplets being forced out around the training area. Pretty easy to understand. I've used the Headskinz once and I'll be using it again today for leg day where it WILL get a definite workout. Thanks so much to Ian and Peter today for kicking off with their uncoached routines during times that work for them giving a tonne more train...ing frequency flexibility! All clients now have full access to Little Jim for uncoached sessions as they wish.
