23.01.2022 This may be a controversial topic for some parents but read on anyway! ADHD and Exercise! There's been a lot of studies undertaken that show a link between ADHD symptoms and exercise - in a good way!... One such study found "regular physical activity decreased the severity of ADHD symptoms and improved cognitive functioning in children"...Hang on, SAY WHAT!? Dr. Hoza and her colleagues found that for kids between kindergarten and second grade, as little as a half hour a day of moderate to vigorous exercise had a positive, measurable impact on their focus and mood. The results were similar for kids with the impulsive-hyperactive type of ADHD and those with the more inattentive type. Now I am definitely not saying to run to the doctor to take your child off prescribed medication for ADHD but what I AM saying is that exercise and physical activity can help improve your child's feeling of self worth and may help to decrease the intensity of ADHD. For a lot of kids, including some with ADHD or other learning challenges, organised sports are minefields of potential embarrassment for kids who struggle to remember multi-step directions, aren’t comfortable with physical contact or just aren’t as coordinated as their peers. Making exercise appealing to children who’d rather sit out is a challenge. BUT not if they're involved with Little Lifestyles! There is NO competition, NO hard to follow step by step instructions, NO teams (unless we're playing Tug a War or Tic Tac Toe!) so children (whether they have ADHD or not) don't have to feel embarrassed but have FUN instead!

09.01.2022 A little about me! I competed in INBA in March 2013 in the Fitness Model Category. I trained for 8 months leading up to comp day and a solid 12 weeks with consistent training and nutrition day in and day out under the supervision of a coach.... I loved it! Sure it was challenging, I had days where I just wanted to stuff my face with doughnuts BUT I challenged my mindset and got the job done. I was studying full-time at uni, working a casual job and sacrificed my social life in order to compete. Would I do it again? Yeah most likely. Now I'm definitely not saying I'm here to get your kids ready for a fitness competition (I'm sure I'd hear about it if I was! :P ) I'm trying to shed some light into WHY I am doing what I am doing for YOUR kids. By finding something you're passionate about, amazing things can stem from it. Self-belief, confidence, a heightened sense of well-being and a little fire in your belly that screams "Don't you dare give up!" For me, fitness does that. Leading a healthy, balanced and fit lifestyles makes me hungry to achieve great things. I want to see those same qualities in our younger generation that are fast growing up to be OUR future in society. Both yours AND mine! Do I have kids? Nope! I don't believe I need to have them in order to understand the current status of our kids in schools and society. Little Lifestyles is about making a difference. 03.01.2022 With my experience being a teacher, I have a student come up to me almost every time I'm teaching and say "Miss, I've done this wrong and now I've failed" or "Miss I need a rubber because I made a big mistake in my writing" or "I can't do this because I'm no good at x, y, z" and it breaks my heart! I say "You know what, I LOVE mistakes! Because mistakes are proof that you are having a go, you learn from them and you try again". The kids always look so upset or like I'm going to get cranky at them because they made the tiniest mistake but to them, it feels like a monumental disaster! Teach your kids that mistakes are AMAZING - whether it's during a sport game, at school or at home, and if they make one, you'll be even more proud of them because they tried and they can ALWAYS fix them!
