09.01.2022 Child Protection Week I would like to personally like to shine a light for Child Protection Week in the eyes of a Director who works very closely with Department for Child Protection. You don't get see the hard part of a Directors role - not even our educators get to see some of the really hard parts Directors face, we protect our staff as well as our children from the highly emotional raw parts of our role and for very good reason. ... You don't see foster families breaking down, you don't see children being pulled from one home to the next, you don't see the child clinging to us because we are the only safe zone they have that week, you don't hear the desperate calls from DCP to help them out, you don't see me crying on my way home because I can't save the world. Working closely with children at risk can have challenging moments but it is also extremely rewarding. Where else would a child look to seek love and connection other than my amazing team of educators? I have been called every name under the sun at times and when you know how hurt a child has been and you have to sit and mediate between families, DCP and the child, you really do have to be strong and you also have to be non-judgemental and you also have to role model correct behaviour to society. I will always advocate for the rights of a child and I am proud of the relationship I have built with our local DCP and the trust we share. A massive shout out to all the foster families in the South West - you are ALL heroes and we have the utmost respect for each and every one of you. Thank you to DCP for the hard challenging work you face each day ... and of course a MASSIVE thank you to all of my educators for loving and caring for each child every single day ...
