25.01.2022 You have probably all noticed my absence of late, ha! Or maybe not. I have been MIA from my drawing table for the past 2 months due to an old back/pelvis injury that had flared up in a really really bad way preventing me from... well doing a lot of things to be honest, but most frustratingly preventing me from drawing. My body has been a mess, of pain and inflammation which is hard to deal with especially in that part of your body, but after some R&R, multiple trips to my o...steo and a bit of pilates, I am starting to feel strong and back to my old self. So here I am, back up in my studio, (my little happy place) working on a commissioned piece which my client has been ever so understanding and patient. Hopefully Im back here for good and there will be a lot more of studio time so I can share with you my work and my creative bubble of colour, pencil, ink and creative goodness. PS: the big babe sitting pretty in the background Summer Siren is still available. Shoot me an email to inquire.

24.01.2022 I absolutely love this unusual combination of blooms and foliage. The shapes, the texture.... and of course the colour! Something about these colours together is just perfect. Its not your traditional conservative bunch and I really like that about it. My client wanted me to include white Lilies into her special family portrait, the commission piece I am currently working on. And although lilies are a beautiful statement flower in their own right, i have drawn Lillies in my... last 2 commission pieces so I really wanted to do something different. I wanted to introduce a mix of flowers that would complement the lilies but add a lot of detail and texture and create something that was really fresh and new and a little bit different. With every commission piece I work on, I create a mood board for myself. A selection of images with the colour and feel, I am wanting to achieve. I spotted this on @asdaisydoes Insta story one afternoon and thought it would be perfect as a flower reference for this commission, a great visual to show my client of how I was going to inject some colour into her illustration. My client loved the idea of having these flowers and foliage along with her Lillies surrounding her family in the illustrated portrait. So thanks @asdaisydoes for doing the hard work for me and for your help with their actual names. . . . #tetragona #kangaroopaw #seaholly #floweringgum #wheat and orange and white #lilly

24.01.2022 Mr Easter Bunny/weekend had me delay working on this beautiful piece again. But I am on the home stretch now. The beginning of inky watercolour today bringing the piece to life with pops of colour. I will hopefully have it finished by Friday.

24.01.2022 Flash back to my old studio space when I first moved back down from Sydney! So much creative magic bloomed in this space. Its where I officially nestled and took that huge leap of faith into self employment. I quit my full time job in graphic design to focus on my Little Quarters illustration business full time, this creative space was just perfect, and really where LQs all began. . Im selling my blue vintage industrial ladders which I used as shelving above my desk. Local pick up only. (#oceangrove #geelong area) Shoot me a PM if anyone is interested.

24.01.2022 Its been a while guys. This is not a commission, thats right, it is NOT a commission. This is a new piece. A new Little Quarters piece! Finally back onto some of my own artwork, and there may be some limited edition prints to come. Its only the very beginning but watch this space. Xx

23.01.2022 A quick little illustration I did for a little project my hubby and I are working on. #shoplocal #interior #stylist #illustration #shack

23.01.2022 It was Typography Tuesday for me here in my little studio. Working on a small job for a client. After looking at and working on the word Celebrate it got me thinking... The older I get, the more I realise we should Celebrate everything. Life is short and precious and you just never know what is around the corner. Be grateful, be kind, and we really should celebrate the every day small and mundane, as well as the big and exciting things. ... Celebrate it all! It was only a small job but it paid well , a bottle of award winning French wine, now thats worth celebrating/enjoying right!

22.01.2022 A lot of people ask me how I find the time for my work. Some days I honestly dont know! It definitely is a balancing act that I am still trying to perfect. My husband works away for 4 weeks at a time on a 4:4 rotation and being a mumma to a beautiful (almost) 3 year old on my own for 4 weeks at a time is challenging and exhausting. But at the same time it is so much fun and I really wouldnt change it for the world. But life is busy! My art is what makes me tick, its someth...ing I need and even when Im not in my studio its never far from my mind. At times I get frustrated that I just dont get the time I need/want to be able to achieve my work goals but I also know that I will get there eventually. I recently read a post by a fellow artists that said it is not a choice or an indulgence it keeps me balanced and grounded and generally a better functioning human. And I couldnt agree more. My studio time is limited and so the time I spend in it is so precious. I hope the work I produce in it reflects this. Its the balancing act of a busy arty farty FIFO/mumma bear. We all have our challenges, especially as mothers, what are yours? . . . #studio #illustrator #littlequarters #art #artwork #original #originalartwork #originalart #acryliconwood #acrylic #watercolour #acrylicpaint #pencil #prismacolor #pigment #ink #oceangrove #geelong #melbourne #artist #sarahmiles #artworkforsale #artforsale #artforyourhome #interiorart #interiorstyling #artonwood #kingprotea #colour See more

22.01.2022 Today in my studio there was a heap of beautiful sunshine, a whole lots of Ray LaMontagne playing pretty loud, (check my insta stories ) and some hand drawn letters, mixed typefaces in watercolours. Fair to say, it has been a pretty good day. #typography #type #watercolour #illustrator #art #sun #studio #handdone #commissioned Check my next post (if it doesnt already pop up in your feed) to see the Lion and Bear that these quote go with... they are finally finished

21.01.2022 Haya! I have been quiet on here these past two weeks! But I have been busy jumping between the three commissions I am working on. Even a couple of my friends have been wondering where I have been I have been that quiet. Head down, bum up busy! But studio time is good time. Here is one of the three, I am working on. A family portrait, which will have this gorgeous fam bam sitting front and centre surrounded by watercolour foliage and flowers... stay tuned!

21.01.2022 Mid week and a solid day in my studio, this bohemian babe coming along nicely.

19.01.2022 When you get a call from a past client after a couple of years pass by, asking for another commission piece because they have had another bub and want an illustration done of their 2nd born to go with their 1st born. Pretty special I think. Here is little mr blue and little miss is well under way . Watch this space. Xx

18.01.2022 Family Portrait Back on this one today and Im almost ready to hit it with some colour. A little slower than I had hoped but it is coming along nicely. A lot of detail in the foliage. Pretty proud of my efforts, usually I have smudge marks all over my original by this stage and especially at this size. I have managed to keep this one pretty clean. Id better scan this baby before I do! . .... . . #studio #commissionedart #illustrator #littlequarters #art #artwork #original #illustration #originalartwork #originalart #pencil #prismacolor #watercolour #ink #oceangrove #geelong #melbourne #artist #sarahmiles See more

17.01.2022 These two, of whom I have become very attached to, are finally finished. I could not be happier with how they have come together and come to life. I cant wait to get them off to the framers, and to see them finished off beautifully behind glass. I know how loved these guys will be in their new home but I wont lie, Im going to miss these two cute heads hanging out with me in my studio. Especially on sunny days like today. Proud as punch! #commission #commissionedart #artwork #illustrator #illustration #bear #lion #watercolour #studio

17.01.2022 This big boy is ready for his Indian ink and water colours. Im finally ready to inject some colour into Bear and his mate Lion. And I can not tell you how excited I am to move on from all that fur Tomorrow I will start all the inky messy organic watercolour goodness. This is where I get to colour outside the lines if you will, I get to relax my technique and where these elements dont have to be so perfect and precise. Please do not disturb. Ill be in my happy place! Xx

17.01.2022 Currently on my drawing table. MEOW!

16.01.2022 A freshie all set up in my studio, ready and waiting.

16.01.2022 Mr Bear! He is coming along nicely, I focused on his nose today. I actually spent most of the day finishing off the pencil work on the Lion. I will spend this week chipping away on the bear to finish him off so I can finally get started on the watercolour and ink. Fur is so very time consuming but its all going to be worth it. He is looking amazing! And so is the lion. I cant wait to get started on injecting some colour into both of these pieces.

16.01.2022 Back onto this one today. Coming together very nicely. Another day and I will just about be ready to get started with watercolour.

15.01.2022 These little ones . Brother and Sister now complete, roughly the same age but two years apart, may I introduce you all to Noah and Isla.

11.01.2022 One super clean studio. This does not happen very often. Nor is it how I usually work and it feels a bit weird to be honest! Ive been busy cleaning out and getting ready for our renovation. This space is getting an update! Its amazing how much crap you accumulate over time. I have two commissions on my drawing table atm, Ive jumped off one to start the other. . ... Two commission pieces which will subtly talk to each other on a visual level, which means I have to work on them at the same time. Ive always liked a challenge. The two united sure will make to be one beautiful artwork in its own right and I am pretty excited about these two. But trying to keep them on the hush for now as I really want them to have serious wow factor when I show my client the two complete side by side. They are coming along nicely. Two very handsome fury faces. See more

11.01.2022 A few snaps of this little lady coming to life in the form of illustration today. Finished and ready to join her big brother on the wall.

10.01.2022 Perfectly said.

10.01.2022 Ive been a bit quiet these past 7 weeks. Ive packed up my little studio and have been having a little break from my work while we have been renovating. We have completely gutted the entire of our upstairs which includes my studio. Our builders and all the trades have been amazing and we are so close to competition. I will be so excited to have my little studio and creative space back! And its all brand new. But there was one little project I have been working on in my dow...n time... amongst all the saw dust and hammering . Here are a few shots of one of the two big signs I have made to welcome guests for a big 70th birthday party that is taking place this weekend. its for my mum! These bad boys were created out on my deck in the sun and then inside on my kitchen table. It was actually really nice working out on my deck in the sun and fresh air but Im really looking forward to having my studio back. Maybe only one week to go. #renovating #studio #newstudio. #cantwait! See more

09.01.2022 Sunday in the studio.

09.01.2022 A few works sitting pretty in my studio waiting for pick up/ delivery on the weekend. Its a bit sad to say goodbye to pieces I have put so much time and energy into. But it is equally exciting to see them off into the world and into the hands and hearts of their new owners.

08.01.2022 Pretty excited to get a start on this one. A lovely commissioned piece which will sit side by side another. I think you guys are really going to love it too! I have three commissions booked in for this month, and this one is going to be the most detailed (I think) So naturally, I chose it to start first... but I might leave it when I get about half way and start the next. Im going to have to work on all three at the one time this month to get them done. It helps me keep the ball rolling, if they are started I know I have to finish them. I will be chipping away on the three at every chance I can get as well as a few late nighters. Right now the little man is down for his day sleep, which has been close to almost 3 hours as he still isnt well (poor boy), but it is giving me a chance to catch up on our week lost to gastro.

07.01.2022 This beautiful commissioned family portrait is now complete. On divine deckel edge 300gsm cotton paper all the way from Paris, stamped, signed, framed and ready for its new home. Here are a few shots of it on completion, packaged up and awaiting its trip to the framers, the test print, the beautiful messy watercolour aftermath sheet I used while working on this piece, the beautiful Vic Ash frame this illustration now lives in, along with my little thank you note to my client. What a pleasure it has been to work on such a beautiful family. Thats a wrap!

07.01.2022 And the colour has begun! (pop)

06.01.2022 Oh hey I have been really quiet on here for the last week or so, but my little studio has been so busy. Its been a little bit of head down, bum up and just have not had the time to post anything of substance. But here We are and this is what I am up to. Im currently working on x3 new commissioned illustrations. The start of a commission piece is what I enjoy the most I think. Talking with my clients and really trying to capture their individual story to then translate... that into art. You see, for me, my commission pieces are so much more than just an illustration that is visually pleasing to the eye. I want the illustration to tell a story, to talk to you and be a connection in your home. Each element in my illustrations represent something personal to its owner. Although my clients come to me with an idea, I ask them a series of questions and build on that to create something really unique and truly special. Its going to be a really busy end to the month/ start of next month. But I am really excited about all three of these pieces and really can not wait to show you them coming to life. Today I emailed my 1st client the concept I have come up with for their special pieces in rough sketch. I cant wait to get started on them. See more

05.01.2022 Back from the framers. These boys are sitting pretty in my empty studio, my last job before we renovate, and Im just about to package them up to deliver to my client. I couldnt be happier and oh how they do look handsome in the Victorian Ash wood frame! What an absolute pleasure it has been to work on these two faces. Its been a journey. I find a lot of my commissions that I do are for clients wanting a special piece done and a lot of the time its a piece to help heal. A... lot of the time there is a sadness in the stories behind the beautiful works I do. But not with this job, this one was refreshingly happy. Two faces for two beautiful little boys rooms. If truth be told these faces healed me through a couple of difficult months. And for that I am very grateful. Sad to say goodbye, but very happy they are off to a loving home where they will be cherished. See more

02.01.2022 I cant tell you how much time I spend sitting on my studio floor. It all just seems to flow a bit better down there. Cups of tea, or kombucha never far from my reach, some cruizy music dancing in the background and scribbles, doodles and thumbnail after thumbnail until the composition of the piece feels just right, mood board and colour palettes and reference images all collected and laid out around me and notes, all the messy dot point notes from all the emails, back and forth between me and my clients. Then finally a rough sketch is created. This space, the one where my imagination is free and running wild, that space is my favourite and thats before the illustration has even begun.

02.01.2022 I have to admit... its a little hard to concentrate with this handsome fellow gazing back at me. One of my most detailed pieces to date! . #wip #commission #illustration #littlequarters #commissionedartwork #art #lion
