22.01.2022 I don’t show my girls very often on this platform but it’s this one’s birthday today so I’m making an exception. She’s one of my best creations after all . Happy 12th birthday Stella! . . . .... . #littlerowanredhead #darlingdaughter #birthdaywishes @stella_sivyer__ #bestcreation See more

20.01.2022 This time last year I was buzzing after having had an AMAZING market at the Sydney Made market at Town Hall and I was feverishly making product ahead of my very first Finders Keepers market. While a lot of hard graft and long hours go into markets (bump out is always killer!), there is nothing like getting to meet customers, explain your process and be part of the market community. When it goes well, it’s a rush! This year it’s a little different with lots of virtual markets ...and online gift guides. The market magic is a little more diffused. However, behind all the virtual markets there are dedicated teams - some paid, some volunteers - that are trying to both keep their organisations alive and support our small business community. So I just wanted to give a shout out to the team behind @handmadecanberra, @finders_keepers and my own favourite team @sydney_made. Keep the faith and hopefully we’ll be back together in 2021! 20.01.2022 Hot off the press! And yes! Gum flowers... again! I can’t help myself - every time I see an explosion of blossoms I am inspired anew. Maybe they are my sunflowers? Anyway, this print has been both fun AND frustrating to print. No matter what registration tricks I used (even my old favourite ‘close one eye and hope for the best’) I couldn’t get it to line up perfectly. But then I decided to embrace the imperfection and now I love it. In fact I think the misregistration gives t...he print more dynamism (at least that’s my story and the one I’m sticking to!) And for those for whom the mustard yellow is a bit much, I have printed several without the background (swipe across!) for a simpler print. . . . . . #sydneymade #marchmeetthemaker #littlerowanredhead #gumblossom #gumflowers #australiannativeflowers #australianartist #australianart #linoprint #linoprintartist #linoprintmaking #linocutprint #printmakersofinstagram #get_imprinted #blockprinting #reliefprinting #woodcutprint #handcarved #handprinted See more

17.01.2022 First day of the school holidays and we are all feeling sad that we are not in New Zealand as we usually are at this time of the year (fireside, looking at out Mt Ruapehu ) To cheer ourselves up, we went plant shopping instead and there was a Willy Wagtail in the nursery! When we got home I got the kids to make terrariums. If you swipe across you can see our creations and a little happy corner of my kitchen! ‘Willy Wagtail’ - limited edition of 50, available in the shop.

16.01.2022 10 years ago, I married my best friend. No red hair but you can see red has long been my favourite colour! It’s kind of inconceivable to me in today’s present climate to think that we had 40 family and friends come from all over the world to party with us in Fiji but that actually happened! Since then that little flower girl has grown up into a pretty gorgeous nearly 12 year old and has been joined by another equally beautiful little girl. What an amazing life we all have together.

16.01.2022 Playing with some old blocks today! I usually print this fiddle-leaf fig print in black (prints available in the shop) but I had some left over green on my inking plate! There are just three of these so DM me if you are interested!

13.01.2022 Layer 3 of my pink robin reduction except this is NOT a true reduction print layer because I chose to use a separate stamp to print the pink layer. Is it cheating? Or just making it easy for oneself? Does it matter if the end result is how you imagined it would be? Two more layers to go!

12.01.2022 ‘Tis the season of triangles... I always love how one shape can be played with and used in so many different ways. This set of four festive triangles is one of my new stamp sets (to be released mid-October) and is so much fun to play with!

12.01.2022 Blooper alert! After seeing the @outer.island girls post their bloopers the other day, I thought I would post mine (not as funny though). While there is a lot of curated content on IG, I believe in keeping it real! I am not a natural in front of the camera so when I dread making video content. Today I had to work on a special video project. I can’t show it to you (secret squirrel ) but suffice it to say, it took A LOT of takes!

11.01.2022 Meet Cookie and Rui, two sweet cockatiels I had the honour of painting recently. It’s such a pleasure to paint someone’s pet(s) because you know that the painting will be cherished after the pets have passed on (although the cockatiels might outlive the owners!) And its always interesting to see what photos they feel best show off their pet’s personality .

10.01.2022 We are getting ready to have our garden landscaped and lucky for us there have been some local plant giveaways to encourage the planting of natives in order to help our small birds. So after a busy old day yesterday netballing, workshop teaching and cooking for friends, today I will relax and imagine a garden. What does your Sunday hold for you? ‘She plants for tomorrow’ available in my shop.

09.01.2022 I started a five-layer reduction print today which may be my most ambitious print so far. A reduction print is also known as a suicide print - each layer you cut some more of the block away and if you stuff up a print, you can’t undo it. Ideally it would be good to have 15-20 good prints but I have only printed 24, plus 4 on copy paper for trouble shooting. Given how many layers I plan to have I thought it would be a good idea to go over the initial pencil drawing in pen, on...ly to find that the pen transferred in inking up. I’m not sure how this will affect the print in later layers but I suppose it’s all learning! Usually I stick to 2 or 3 layers but its always good to do things that scare you! Because close registration is important with reduction prints, I have employed two of my Ternes Burton tabs and made a bit of a jig. The second layer should show me if the prep has paid off. Wish me luck! P.S. I still have a couple of spots available at my Fabric Blockprinting Class at the Australian Design Centre this Saturday! Learn how to make one-of-a-kind fabrics for quilting, garments, Japanese wrapping clothes etc! Go home with new skills, your stamps and a printed tote bag or tea towel. $120 for 3 hours 12-3, small class size and social distancing will be observed. Get tickets via the link in bio!

09.01.2022 This is not the first time I have posted this and it probably won’t be the last! Speaking of buying from a real person...the Sydney Made Christmas Gift Guide (link in bio) is still going strong. With 70 makers showcased, its the perfect gateway to shopping handmade and local this festive season. I have a great deal of offer at the moment of 15% off all orders plus free shipping in Australia when you use the discount code included in the gift guide!

09.01.2022 Hey all. For those of you who don’t know me, I’m Rowan, the maker behind Little Rowan Redhead. I am a printmaker, painter and avid maker. I’m also an educator and have taught many workshops both IRL and online. I’m a mum to two great girls and partner to an awesome dude and I’m a happy member of Sydney’s talented makers’ community. This week is #justacardweek. With all the Black Friday and Cyber Monday madness, this week is a difficult week for small businesses. There is con...tinual pressure to keep dropping the bottom line. When everything you sell is handmade and labour intensive there is only so far that you can drop your prices before a) it’s no longer financially viable and b) you undervalue your work. I can’t compete with big businesses on price. HOWEVER, when you buy from me you are buying straight from the maker. You are buying my story, my passion and my skills. It’s cheesy but it’s true. I can’t tell you not to spend money on Friday but I can ask you to be mindful and consider sharing the love with small independent businesses.

08.01.2022 I love tropical plants, indoors and out! With their vibrant colours and fascinating and diverse forms, they make me happy and always inspire me! I have a number of linoprinted pot plants in my shop and I’m thinking of adding a few more - maybe a striking Calathea Zebrina or a Ficus decora Rubra? If you swipe across you can see some of my potplants and my backyard! We spent some time this weekend doing some gardening and cleaning up after last weekend’s torrential rains, tryin...g to make the place look tiptop ahead of my late 40th next weekend! . . . . . #marchmeetthemaker #littlerowanredhead #linoprinting #potplants #houseplants #monsteradeliciosa #blockprinting #tropicalgarden #backyardbliss #innerwestsydney #innerwestartist #linocutprint See more

07.01.2022 Some quirky birds are getting ready to leave the nest! Gabby, Betsy, Maria and Carmen - find them all in my shop ! Available in A4, A3 and A2 sizes.

07.01.2022 I’m a day late for International Coffee Day and Throwback Thursday but here’s a throwback to a cute little stamp set I made last year! Are you a coffee drinker or do you prefer tea? (I’m off to grind some beans...) In case you missed it, I was recently interviewed by Julie of @balzerdesigns (and her lovely mum) for her Adventures in Arting Podcast. It was fab (even though I laugh too much when I’m nervous) and we could have talked for hours. Check out the link in her bio

05.01.2022 Happy Easter y’all! Over here we are getting ready for a party! What are you doing this long weekend? P.S. if this little rabbit tessellation intrigues you, I have a IRL workshop coming up all about repeat patterns and tesselations. Here’s the link! https://www.littlerowanredhead.com//repeat-patterns-and-te

04.01.2022 Just a bit of a process vid showing the making of ‘Pretty Pigface’. I didn’t manage to get great footage of me placing the flowers inside the larger block - didn’t think you wanted to see the top of my head . Thank you for all the kind thoughts and lovely comments yesterday. A little outside time and some cooking made me feel a lot better.

04.01.2022 Happy to be part of Finders Keepers Christmas shopping event! I am offering 10% off all my prints - no need to enter a discount code, I have already adjusted the pricing. Enjoy! . . . .... #christmasshopping #thefinderskeepers #finderskeepersmarket #finderskeepersonline See more

03.01.2022 In the process of filming today for a secret project I rediscovered my little terrace house stamps. I carved these in 2015 when I participated in #carvedecember for the first time. While they are cute and it’s lovely to make little patterns, they are a bit fiddly. So in 2017 when I started doing Paddo markets (Paddington having plenty of beautiful terraces) I decided to do a larger print with one block. I embellished the original designs adding in some extra cute details ( do you see the cat?) While it would be lovely to have great new ideas all the time, I think it is equally valid to go back to older work and rework it into something else, maybe something better. ‘Terrace Houses’ is available on my website.

01.01.2022 Next layer ready to go! (Now to find time to print it )
