25.01.2022 Continuing on the Mindfulness theme.... here are some excellent book suggestions from Neurochild Community.

24.01.2022 This year an unusual double entry was selected as an Archibald Prize finalist - Ernest Brothers, by artists Digby Webster and Neil Tomkins. We were lucky enough to have Digby walk us through his process and take us on a visit to see his work at the Art Gallery of New South Wales. #IDPwD

24.01.2022 Funny but true

22.01.2022 Sharing for anyone looking for a good mindfulness app, check this one out. The visuals look great for kids. I have just downloaded it and will give it trial too. Thanks to OMazing Kids for sharing this

19.01.2022 This is the best!

19.01.2022 Staying hydrated whilst completing some professional development Another zoom webinar for the win!

19.01.2022 Simple sensory play using things I found around our home. Miss A enjoyed mixing colours and "painting" with shaving foam. What you need: - tray (baking tray, plastic tray, etc)... - shaving foam - food colouring (warning! can get very messy and "colourful") - cotton buds, cotton wool, pegs (or anything else you're happy to get foam and food dye on) - Wet cloth or baby wipes to clean up messes (or hands if needed) Note: it is important when engaging kids in new sensory play activities that you go at their pace and their level of comfort. Miss A was happy to play with the foam however needed a wet wipe close by for her hands and preferred to use a utensil (cotton bud etc) rather then directly touch it with her hands. When we did this activity again a couple of days later (albeit without the food colouring) she got covered from head to toe in the foam! This is because I didn't over-do it or push her outside her level of comfort on that first initial play.

17.01.2022 This simple activity is a great boredom buster for toddlers and preschoolers. Games and activities on a vertical surface help the development of pre-writing skills. 1) Fine motor: wrist extension and pincer grasp (strength and dexterity), shoulder strength for supporting hand and finger dexterity 2) Motor coordination: eye-hand coordination, crossing midline, passing between hands 3) Problem solving: figuring out which piece of tape to remove first, then next etc.... There are loads of other games and activities you can set-up or modify so that they are on a vertical surface. What vertical activities can you create at home?

17.01.2022 It’s been a busy few weeks for me on the business and family fronts (hence my tardiness with fb posts ). So although the end of term / year is fast approaching, I am still squeezing in some final professional development for 2020. Today was day 1 (of 3) of The CO-OP Approach. I actually did the theory part of this course approx 6 years ago, however had to go off on maternity leave before I could complete the certification part. So today has been a good refresher and I’ll b...e thrilled to offer this approach to motor skill learning with current and future clients I promise to post some more info about CO-OP in the coming weeks! See more

17.01.2022 This works brilliantly! In all my years of OT I have never come across this method before - so excited to share this one with you :)

17.01.2022 Happy Speech Pathology week to all of the amazing speech pathologists I have been blessed to work with over the years

16.01.2022 What are your favourite podcasts? OK, I'll be 100% honest and admit that I only discovered the beauty of podcasts about 12 months ago! Yes I am well "behind the times" and probably showing my age a little..... Anyway, I wanted to share some fantastic Podcasts that I am loving listening to at the moment:... 1. Listen able - by Dylan Alcott & Angus O'Laughlin 2. Toopeas in a Podcast - by Mandy Hose & Kate Jones 3. Conversations - by ABC Radio See more

15.01.2022 Time to get in the Zone! Today and tomorrow I will be completing the Zones of Regulation online training, which was developed and created by Leah Kuypers. Leah will be presenting this course live online from the US - I am SO excited to hear her present! I have been looking forward to this for months

15.01.2022 As a follow up to my last post....... I got stuck in a traffic jam this morning on my way to Emerald

14.01.2022 Exciting news! Little Sparks OT is now able to offer weekday appointments on Mondays and Thursdays (school hours only at this stage) starting from Monday 2nd November. November / December will be a transition period, and then as of 1st January 2021 there will be no more appointments on Fridays or Saturdays.

13.01.2022 I gained another new recruit this week (she just showed up on our doorstep). Maggie is settling in well and is already changing the settings on my computer screen to make things more accessible for me.... Didn’t realise my eyes were so bad I needed to magnify my screen to 400%

12.01.2022 Great example of a fun and easy to set-up visual perceptual activity - I think I might have to give this one a go in clinic!

10.01.2022 It was a big day on the road yesterday, 360km round trip for a very unique home visit. But with scenery like this, how lucky am I?! #outreachOT #ilovemyjob #countryhomevisits

10.01.2022 It was so nice to be out on the road today visiting kids at school. Feeling grateful that here in remote Central QLD I am still able to be mobile with my practice, despite all that is currently happening with COVID in NSW and VIC. Have a wonderful weekend everyone - stay safe

08.01.2022 Happy OT week to all my OT friends and colleagues! The theme for this year is Resilience: Supporting our communities to rebuild, recover and reengage. This year has been a challenging in so many ways for everyone. The end of the year is fast approaching, so perhaps now is a great time to reflect on 2020....

08.01.2022 Amazing initiative!

08.01.2022 NEW THERAPY resources!! Looks like I’m not the only one who is excited Miss A is practicing her fine motor skills and learning her colours Second video in comments

07.01.2022 I’m totally giving this one a go!

06.01.2022 SPRING! It’s my favourite time of the year Miss A and I were lucky to spot a mummy emu and her baby chick this morning on our morning ride. Although the 2 near misses with magpies were not so fun

05.01.2022 Home visits and outreach services: I love being out and about, working with kids and their families in their own homes and natural environments. Living in Central QLD means I get to see some amazing parts of the Australian countryside and natural beauty of the bush which is a massive bonus too!

04.01.2022 Our first attempt at re-creating that marble run video from a week ago....I need stronger pegs!! haha

04.01.2022 My all time favourite Dan Siegel quote....

03.01.2022 This looks like fun!

02.01.2022 Welcome back to term 4! I hope those families with school-aged kids are feeling refreshed after some downtime over the school holiday break? Our family managed a short beach escape with some friends. Growing up on an island means that sea breezes and salty air always calms and grounds me. Who is ready for the last term of 2020?!

01.01.2022 On the home stretch with Day 2!!
