20.01.2022 "Time is a strange thing, isn't it?" My books of the moment are the classic Alice in Wonderland and How to Stop Time. Carroll shows it acts curiously as the white rabbit in wonderland, while opening our minds to the chaos of social norms and cultural constraints encountered on our path to find truth. Haig opens us to a world where lifetimes are spent learning how to live, learning how to love and love again. I love the philosophical conversation on science in these books. Ti...me. We aren't bound by it, but limit ourselves by its very concept. Time in the physical sense is nothing but frequency of change. We try to grasp the relativity of space-time to make sense of time perceived in the one-dimensional continuum. That is, time slows down or speeds up depending on our velocity, gravitational pull and cognitive context. 2020 will become a year to remember because we have all gone through much change. We can unite our experience in building strength from managing the changes we have lived through. This is Candice on her journey as an indie author illustrator. 14.01.2022 This week's library adventure book find is 'The Patchwork Bike' by Australian- Afro-Caribbean author @maxinebeneba and illustrated by Van Thanh Rudd. I love her message of "be what you cannot see" and her book gives children the opportunity to gain insights of village life, think about the resources they have, making the most of them, and as kids do - having fun. It's a wonderful book which reminds me of the simplicity of life as a child and as adults how complicated we mak...e our lives to be. 13.01.2022 2020. What a year Amongst all the lockdowns, travel restrictions, and crazy toilet paper grabs, we have managed to stay connected and hopeful. The local library was the first place for the kids (after a good park run!) when lockdown was lifted for our state. 09.01.2022 Sometimes life throws you a bit of a curve ball, and you may find yourself thinking that the life you are living is not the life you had expected. This year was especially non-linear and I found myself on the proverbial rollercoaster ride. Some of us are feeling high up, others low down, and some are still going around the bend. Me - well I feel like I am still clicking and clacking up that first steep climb, feeling nervy but excited at the same time, emotions wildly zig...-zagging whilst taking in the view from up top. It's going to feel taller, faster, and scarier. Happily ever after is a choice, it's a state of mind, our unique perspective. I could keep my eyes closed in fear of every loop and drop, or give in to the exhilaration, brave the suspense, and scream to my heart's content.
