23.01.2022 Did you know that June is National Burns Awareness Month? There are approximately 50,000 burns related hospital admissions in Australia per year. If called upon would you know how to manage a Burn?... Implementing the correct first aid measures can make a significant difference in the recovery process and long term outcome of a burn injury, Burn injuries range from the most minor and common of wounds, dealt within the community, to the most severe and devastating of injuries The most common type of burn injury for children aged 0-5 years is scalds. Prepackaged microwavable soups are a frequent cause of scald burn injuries (especially noodle soups) because they can easily tip over, pouring hot liquid (and noodles) on the person. First Aid for Burns If you, or someone you know is burnt, take the following actions: 1. Remove clothing and jewellery 2. Apply cool running water to the burn for at least 20 minutes 3. Cover burn with a clean cloth and keep the patient warm Do NOT use ice, butter, creams, etc. 4. Seek medical attention for any burn bigger than 3cm, or with blisters, or if any other concerns are present Do not break blisters. Do not apply any ointments, butter or powders. Use only water. Seek urgent medical assistance (Ambulance), unless the burn is very slight. Data obtained from Burns Registry of Australian & New Zealand (BRANZ) 2014 For more information go to https://hubs.ly/H0r5P890 and https://hubs.ly/H0r5P8b0

18.01.2022 A persons mental health affects how they feel, think, behave and relate to others. Depression and anxiety are two of the most common mental health issues that we see in workplaces, but we must learn to differentiate between normal stress levels and those that are a sign of something larger at play. With the shift to working from home, it can be challenging for Managers or supervisors to recognise these signs. Both work-to-family and family-to-work struggle affect the mental... health of men and women. Work and family roles and the balance between the two may be necessary for the mental health of men and women in industrialised societies(Chandola, 2004). With video conferencing becoming the norm, encouraging an open and honest dialogue with your employees may ensure they feel comfortable coming to you if they think or feel they are experiencing a problem. This strategy gives you the ability to work out a management plan that will offer them proper care reff. Chandola, T. (2004). A comparative study of Finland, Japan, and the UK. 03.01.2022 Celebrating Restart A Heart Day with Emilys Heart Beat Emily Counter is a 21-year-old who survived a sudden cardiac arrest nearly a year ago at a Sunshine Coast gym who has been presented with her own Automated External Defibrillator (AED) by our Managing Director, John Haines. Emily has been campaigning for more access to defibrillators since the release of CCTV footage showing her sudden cardiac arrest which went viral earlier this year.... Now, coming up to the 12-month anniversary of her cardiac arrest, Ms Counter is more passionate than ever about saving lives and has partnered with us at LivCor (the new name for Australian First Aid & APL Healthcare). I realised that she didnt actually own an automated external defibrillator, which horrified me, Mr Haines said. As a result, I immediately offered to donate an AED, that also easily adjusts for adults and children. Survival rates are appalling, despite the best efforts of dedicated professionals and volunteers alike, he said. For every minute without defibrillation, you lose 10 per cent probability of survival. The only thing that will save you is initially CPR to maintain you while someones hunting a defibrillator. Ms Counter said she was excited for Im passionate about helping others to save lives as a result of my experience and am grateful to be part of the LivCor team. The more I can do, the more lives are saved. . . . . #restartaheart #CardiacArrest #AED #Defibrillator #FirstAid #AustralianFirstAid #APL #emilysheartbeat

02.01.2022 Today is World Restart A Day! Ok quick, so its time to save your friends life by performing CPR! What do you do? Jump right in or hesitate and risk their l...ife. Its simple, you jump right in and get compressing. For people who suffer cardiac arrest outside of a hospital, the biggest difference between those who survive and those who dont is that a bystander performed CPR on the survivors. But some freak out due to the fear of hurting the victim or not knowing what to do. Many people hesitate to perform CPR because they worry that they may do more harm than good.... The thing is, if youre doing CPR right, its likely to break ribs. Compressions should be at a depth of about two inches on a full-grown adult in order to get the blood moving in the body. Thats why it is essential for everyone to get trained in CPR, and be willing to deliver it if need be. We need to be prepared. Let this be a reminder for you to seek first aid training, you never know when youll need to use it Contact me today to get started!
