Like the butterfly, the wings of a skipper are not joined, and when at rest the wings are held over their body. However, the front wi...ng of a skipper are held at a different angle to their back wing. Skippers are great pollinators that might land in your garden looking for a snack. They feed on the sugary-rich nectar that flowers produce. They may not carry as much pollen as bees, wasps or flies, but because they have very long tongues, they are quite good at pollinating plants with deep flowers. 03.01.2022 Jewel Beetles are so named due to the gem-like quality of their hard external skeletons, which are brilliantly coloured in many species and textured in a way to have a metallic sheen. Most adult Australian jewel beetles are nectar feeders, and during the warmer season’s these beetles are often seen on the flowers of trees and shrubs. So you may see some during this week’s Pollinator Count. The life span of Jewel Beetles are short depending on the species. Adult beetles may... live for just one or two days up to about two weeks. They belong to the family Buprestidae, which has about 1,200 species within Australia.
