21.01.2022 As the record spins the music industry turns

21.01.2022 Did you hear that

19.01.2022 VIC'S NAKED TRUTH: Just yesterday, drummer Nick Mason of the progressive rock group Pink Floyd celebrated his 76th birthday. Outside of his work as a musician, ...he is a car enthusiast, collector and race car driver. Over the years, he has competed successfully at many racing events including the 24 Hours of Le Mans. He also is also a qualified pilot and flies both fixed-wing aircraft and helicopters, including an Aerospatiale AS 350 Squirrel helicopter. Mason perfectly combined his love of drums and automobiles when he had Drum Workshop Inc. (DW Drums), Paiste Cymbals, and Protection Racket Cases help him create the ultimate tribute to his two passions in life a stunning "Ferrari" drum kit with matching cases. Mason received rare permission from Ferrari to use both their company logo and distinct red color for the project. Mason, who has a priceless collection of Ferraris, Maseratis, Aston Martins and Bugattis is one of only 39 fortunate car enthusiasts who owns a 1962 Ferrari 250 GTO. Between 1962 and 1964, all Ferrari 250 GTO models were built and sold for 6,000 ($7800) each. Mason bought his Ferrari in 1977 for 37,000 ($48,000) using the money coming from the release of The Dark Side Of The Moon album. Many people told him that he was crazy for spending this amount of money on a car. In 2010, Mason turned down a $30 million offer for the car. In 2013, one collector sold his 250 GTO for the record amount of $53 million making the GTO the most expensive car ever sold. Mason has been the only constant member of Pink Floyd since the band's formation in 1965 and is featured on every one of their albums. Throughout the group’s long and incredibly successful career, the group has sold over 250 million records worldwide, including over 75 million records sold in the United States alone. In 1996, Mason and Pink Floyd were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. In 2018, Mason formed a new band, Nick Mason's Saucerful of Secrets, to perform Pink Floyd's early material. The band includes Gary Kemp of Spandau Ballet on guitars and vocals, longtime Pink Floyd collaborator Guy Pratt on bass and vocals, and Lee Harris on guitar and backing vocals. Mason has stated that the group is not a tribute band and was assembled to "capture the spirit" of an era. He also stressed that Kemp is not a replacement for original Pink Floyd frontman Syd Barrett. After already having toured Europe in 2018, last year Nick Mason's Saucerful of Secrets toured North American performing music from Pink Floyd’s pre-1973/Dark Side of the Moon era, including gems and rarities from Floyd’s 1967 debut, The Piper at the Gates of Dawn, through 1972’s Obscured by Clouds. Many of the songs the group played had not been performed live by a member of Pink Floyd in over 50 years or never at all. On April 23rd, Mason and his band kick off another tour of the UK and Europe. On May 2, 2019, Mason was awarded a CBE (Commander of the Order of the British Empire), the honor just below full knighthood or damehood. The annual awards recognize the outstanding achievements of people across the United Kingdom. At a ceremony presented by Prince William at Buckingham Palace in London, Mason received his honor for services to music. Regarding the award, Mason joked, Cars are my thing. Originally when they told me I’d got this award they said it’s for music I thought they were going to say it’s for services to the used car trade. Nick Mason also plays Promark Drumsticks, and Remo Drumheads. "Music and cars...it's all just wonderful stuff made by people who care, but it won't last beyond a single human lifetime...so why not play it loud and drive it to pieces? That's simple enough." - Nick Mason
