25.01.2022 URGENT - LIVE MUSIC UNDER THREAT IN SPRINGWOOD Wednesday 29 July is the deadline for submissions regarding the application to build a Woolworths supermarket next door to the Blue Mountains Theatre in Springwood. In its current form this proposal would make acoustic and semi-acoustic performances in the Theatre impossible. The supermarket DA involves a loading dock and ramp less than 10 metres from the theatre stage, which means there will be up to four noisy trucks with rever...sing alarms every hour using this facility. There could also be additional noise from the carpark, shopping trolleys, air conditioning plant, etc, intruding into the theatre. To make matters worse the DA for the supermarket has failed to recognise the special needs of the theatre and appears to treat it as a commercial building in determining the amount of soundproofing required. Under the Australian/NZ standard commercial buildings have a much higher acceptable noise level than that required for a drama theatre, which is the standard that should be applied. The application can be found here: https://www2.bmcc.nsw.gov.au//XC.T/SearchApplication.aspx LaTV has prepared a submission and media release (see image) outlining our concerns. Other groups in the community have raised additional issues relating to the proposal. To make a submission about the noise impact or any other aspect of the proposal send it by close of business on Wednesday 29 July 2020 to [email protected] and quote the reference X/390/2020. If you care about future of LaTV concerts, or any other live music and performance at the Blue Mountains Theatre, please write something and send it NOW. Please contact us if you need any more information.

01.01.2022 We were very honoured to have saxophonist, Julien Wilson return to Live the Village last night with his more electric quartet, B for Chicken. It was a lovely intimate night in the newly renovated hall. The B for Chicken line up is Craig Fermanis on electric guitar, Chris Hale on electric bass and Hugh Harvey on drums. Wilson said that the inspiration for forming this quartet in 2011 was the drive of Hugh Harvey's astoundingly musical drumming, Fermanis' blues-drenched, ro...ck-singed, take-no-prisoners guitar work and Chris Hale's six string electric bass playing which is full of melodic creativity and flamenco flair. How privileged we are to have such world class performers play in our home town up here in the beautiful Blue Mountains. What a brilliant night was had. Here is a little taste of what we saw captured by our resident photographer, Peter Karp Photography.
