25.01.2022 Good morning on Monday. I found this quote inspiring so thought I'd share with you. Trauma does not mean victim. You are amazing and brave not only for surviving your trauma but also for surviving your PTSD symptoms to date and being strong and courageous to enter into therapy to resolve your PTSD. Go you!

25.01.2022 Exercise (eg. jogging, swimming, cycling, walking, gardening, dancing), has been shown to reduce anxiety and depression. It is thought exercise does this by increasing blood circulation to the brain and influencing our stress response system through its effects on the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis.

23.01.2022 Friyay! Make the most of the weekend. 86,400 seconds to each day. Be mindful. Avoid toxic arguments. 22.01.2022 So. what does a psychologist and her beloved animal assistant do after a heavy morning of trauma and couples therapy sessions? Answer: practice self-care! we’re talking a leisurely walk in Centennial the park, grabbing a fab fish and salad at Wisteria Restaurant and enjoying the green view. What self-care and mindfulness practice are you doing today?

20.01.2022 As a trauma psychologist, I see lots of Police, Firies and Ambos struggle every day with feeling wired like a jack in the box about to pop! Getting angry easily and drinking far too much to try to calm the inner storm. If you read the article below, you'll see that grounding techniques are effective tools that you can add to your PTSD management kit. Once you've mastered these techniques, you'll be on the way to managing your anxiety but your PTSD will not resolve without you seeing a trained trauma psychologist and undergoing the appropriate psychological treatment. I have lots of experience in this area so call me to see if I can help you: 1800 883 926. It's your next step towards recovery.

19.01.2022 A good colleague of mine wrote this great description of a narcissist so I thought I’d share with you here as I know many folks have suffered trauma at the hands of narcissistic rage. A different perspective is given here. Not that that is any excuse for DV as violence of any kind is never ever okay! But it might help to think about the narcissist from the side of their pain just to understand what’s underlying the behaviour. Of course, that is not to say because you understand that you should or have to put up with it. It’s just something I thought you might find interesting...hard to think that they might have attachment wounds too, but they do. Narcissism is their way of coping with believing they are unlovable. How sad is that!

19.01.2022 When I learned all Australians are now entitled to receive 20 Medicare rebates instead of 10 when they see me under a GP mental health care plan. 17.01.2022 I hate to be a negative Nellie but I feel I wouldn’t be doing this right thing if I didn’t share this video too. Thanks Virginia Baume for sharing it with me Please share this video on FB with your FB mates and post on your business pages and in your groups to raise awareness about why it is so damn important that we practice social distancing, hand wash and wear masks. The suffering of people like Dr Lee and how he’s had to change his lifestyle because of the longer impacts of this virus on his body makes me feel really sad. Sending strength to y’all

15.01.2022 Feelings can tell us so much information about our present lived experience. So often we try to avoid painful feelings. Have you ever noticed though that if you watch a feeling and allow it to just be there, it will eventually move on, like a car passing you on the freeway. Share how you’re feeling right now.

It's important to understand. When you understand why something is important for a happier, healthier and less anxious you, you will be more motivated to practice the new exercise. So I invite you to watch this video if you want to understand why I keep harping on about the importance of breathing for managing anxiety from trauma, worrying or conflict. Watch to discover the double breathe in, long breath out technique. For more, visit www.livebetterpsychology.com.au

14.01.2022 I often hear from my clients that they’ve used text messages to have important conversations. I’ve even been guilt of doing this in the past myself. The problem with text messages is that non-verbal communication, which the research tells us is more than 90% of all communication, is lost. No wonder then that misunderstanding occur, right?
