20.01.2022 His little face is the cutest thing

20.01.2022 Originally from India, Financial Advisor Vishal and his family arrived in Adelaide last December. He explains why they chose South Australia: We had been living Dubai for over 10 years, and it was such a fast-paced life. The lure of a healthy, peaceful life for us as a family drew us to South Australia. Life here is without the constant rush and people are so loving and welcoming. We experienced this as we arrived in Adelaide stayed in a B&B and made our first friends in fir...st week itself. We have two young children and we chose South Australia because of the high quality of education, quality of personal life and aspiration of continuing our professional lives in this beautiful country. Vishal started to make work connections with people in Adelaide prior to arriving in SA. I thought it was important to start to connect with people on LinkedIn, and also joined socio-professional forums. SAPNAM is one of the professional forums which provided a lot of professional guidance to me and am sure to many others too in process of professional settlement in SA. Once in South Australia, Vishal and his wife registered to attend Immigration SAs employment support events. The employment sessions covered many aspects in the job search process. Guidance on CV writing, importance of cover letters, and in-depth information of dos and donts with resume preparation, approaching employers and interview techniques, all really helped. It is important to do a lot of networking on social media, professional sites, make friends, seek guidance from experienced people, observe from their experiences and success or failures BUT decide your own path by being patient and doing the right things. So how are they finding life here now? Both my wife and I have been successful in securing jobs in less than 3 months of our arrival and in area of our expertise and cant be more thankful to almighty for the blessings. We have the time and energy to maintain balance in our lives. We live close to the city and get to enjoy everything the city has to offer. From the crowds in Rundle Mall, taking a short drive to visit conservation parks, the Adelaide Hills, and the beautiful beaches, all of which have kept us entertained over these past few months. It is different from our previous life in India and Middle East but we are loving this city; it comes with a warm heart and we are looking forward to making new friends both at work and socially too. We can see a good life for us here in Adelaide. Thank you so much Vishal for sharing your story and experience with others. We wish you well here in South Australia! 20.01.2022 What a light show! More than 100,000 lightning strikes hit SA overnight.

20.01.2022 When Video Producer Luis Gozalo migrated to South Australia from Peru, it was his sister’s testimony that proved to be a key motivator. My sister has been living in SA for almost 12 years and she encouraged to come because she considered the lifestyle, rhythm and multiculturalism of Adelaide was a great match for me. Once here, Luis made use of the many support services available. ... Attending English classes and Skilled & Business Migration’s specialised employment workshops were both a great introduction to understanding Australian work culture and helped with my confidence. Luis believes it was his persistence, volunteering, and a bit of luck which helped him land a job in his field in a relatively short time frame. For me, volunteer work was a great entry point to meet the right people and gain valuable local experience. I also attended some networking events in my field of expertise where I was able to make some great contacts. I am currently working at Adelaide Oval as part of the team in charge of the big screens and LED ribbons. Luis has the following advice for anyone considering moving to, or is new, to South Australia: Definitely give it a go! I have met people here from many different countries and most of us agree on how lucky we are to be here. If you are already here and are struggling finding employment, or experience homesickness, do not hesitate to ask for professional help from the many organisations that exist here. They made all the difference for me and I will always be grateful for that. Congratulations Luis on your fantastic new role, for sharing your story and for making SA your new home! 20.01.2022 Who doesn't like to soak up that winter sun?

19.01.2022 We were recently contacted by Sandaruwan Mendis who very kindly offered to share his migration story and what attracted him and his wife to settle in regional South Australia. My wife and I arrived in South Australia in late 2018. We are from Sri Lanka coming from the Central part of the country which is famous for its tea all over the world. We selected South Australia for migration because of its very laid-back style and high-quality living standards. Back in Sri Lanka, it... was quite the opposite where we led a hectic lifestyle. South Australia is diverse in its nature from coastlines, hills to the premium wine regions of Barossa and Riverland. We like to experience nature and wildlife and often make it a point to visit different parts of the state, when we get a chance. Back in Sri Lanka, I was an Operational Excellence Specialist role for an Apparel manufacturing giant. After coming to Australia, I attended the employment workshops that were conducted by Immigration SA. These sessions helped me a lot to furnish my resume and prepare for interviews. I was also able to connect with key contacts. The new arrivals dinner was also a great source of information. Biggest take away from these sessions was broadening the horizons on the job search. The trainers of the sessions told us to consider country South Australia on prospective opportunities. And thats exactly what I did, and within a span of six weeks of our arrival I was able to secure a role in my field of expertise at a leading wine manufacturing business in the Riverland. Since then, I work as a Specialist in continuous improvement and managing key projects that look towards long term sustainable growth. We have settled down in the Riverland and we enjoy the freedom and nature. My wife is currently at her final stages of her Early Childhood Care and Education Diploma and has entered her industry. So far, the journey has been exciting, and we are loving it. I would like to thank Immigration South Australia on the dedication to deliver high quality career guidance and preparation and the local community who helped us to establish ourselves. Special thanks go to Gilda who gave her valuable advice to us in the workshops. Best wishes to all the new arrivals and bit of advice, if it helps; - Research on the current trends in your relevant industry and where the jobs are mostly located - Searching for the right job and preparation for interviews itself is a job, dedicate time and be patient - The country South Australia provide ample opportunities to start a career in your relevant field. The local communities offer great help, reach out and network. Thank you so much San for offering to share your story and experience with others. Regional SA offers many wonderful opportunities and we hope you have inspired others! 14.01.2022 Here is a wonderful follow up to a good news story we shared 2 years ago. When Yogesh and his family arrived in Adelaide from India they fell in love with Adelaide and were thrilled with the opportunities it has given them. And now they have some icing to put on the cake! Yogesh explains: I would like to share some good news with you, we received our Permanent Residency visa grant yesterday ... "We would like to take this opportunity to thank Immigration SA and this wonderful city of Adelaide for welcoming us and making us feel home right from the beginning. "This place continues to amaze us with the things it has to offer. We look forward to see the state continue to grow to its maximum potential and see ourselves as part of this amazing community. The decision to move to South Australia, will be one of the best decisions we have made. Congratulations Yogesh to you and your lovely family and thank you for sharing your fantastic news!

14.01.2022 Lovely to see such acts of kindness and community spirit alive and well in Adelaide

14.01.2022 We are thrilled to hear from people who have moved to South Australia and want to share their experiences with others. Dinuka contacted us recently to share his take on life in regional SA: "Since arriving to South Australia so much has happened in the last seven months that my wife and I have pretty much lived a new day every day. We live in Berri, a multicultural town in the Riverland with cafés, caravan parks and vineyards on the riverside, a main street that overlooks the... river and other shopping facilities elsewhere in the town. Back in Sri Lanka I was an Automation Engineer for South Asias largest apparel manufacturer. Moving to Australia obviously comes with its own challenges and unknowns but that makes everything the more exciting. I am currently working for Accolade Wines Engineering Maintenance team. Accolade Wines - Berri Estates describes itself as the largest single operating winery in the southern hemisphere. My present role closely relates with my nominated occupation along with added responsibilities and is in line with my qualification and experience which was exactly what I was looking for in my career. South Australia is a fast developing state in Australia. On the other hand, with its many picturesque wine regions, sandy beaches & adventurous walking trails it can also be refreshingly laid-back, quiet and relaxed with high-quality living standards. So, once youre done sightseeing, partying or working, youll always be able to take a step back from the hustle and bustle of the city life. We simply cant get enough what the Riverland offers best nature, peace and (of course) its wine. We assure that South Australia is a great choice for migrants who are looking to get away from a stressful life. We highly appreciate the many programs that SA Government offers to new migrants in making them more comfortable in a new country and feeling the warmth of the Australian people. While major cities may seem as the obvious choice to search for job opportunities, we also encourage you to look into regional areas specially in the manufacturing and service sectors where prospects are booming". Thank you both Dinuka and Monali for kindly offering to share your story with others who may be considering opportunities in regional SA

13.01.2022 More of our beautiful South Australia! Wouldn't want to be anywhere else

11.01.2022 Picture perfect South Australia

11.01.2022 Welcome to South Australia! Community worker Gemma arrived in Adelaide from the UK just ONE week before Australia implemented lockdown measures in response to COVID-19. I was lucky that I received a job offer from an application I made back in January, whilst still living in the UK. My contract is due to start on 1st June and I am really looking forward to getting started. I accessed Immigration SAs employment support webinars which helped me understand the Australian job ...market, and helped me to be more confident in my interviews, which I felt led to my eventual job offer. The tips in the resume workshop were very useful as well once I made some of the adjustments recommended, I started to receive a much higher number of responses from employers. Gemma is currently living in Adelaides southern suburbs, and feels she has the best of both worlds beach-side living with regular trains directly into the CBD. I think for community workers like me, there are a lot of opportunities in Adelaide and the surrounding suburbs there seem to be a lot of roles being advertised and I was in the recruitment process with a number of other organisations when I received the job offer I decided to take. Whilst there are a lot of community worker roles back in the UK, I feel that the wages in South Australia are much higher, with access to a greater range of employer benefits, and the housing is much more affordable than back in London, where I am from, so I feel confident that I can afford a lifestyle which I will really love living here. I have noticed living here that the SA lifestyle is really rubbing off on me already everybody is so relaxed and friendly, that I am becoming more relaxed, friendlier and more confident just being here, and I feel so much happier as a result. Gemma is looking forward to the end of lockdown restrictions so she can get to know the local community more, join the gym and make some friends through work and volunteering. Thank you Gemma for sharing your story! Learn more about support services for skilled migrants by visiting our website: https://migration.sa.gov.au/support-services
