The UNESCO protected Shirakawa-go Village covers 170 acres in Japan, carved out of the mountainside like real-life snow globes. Every Winter, the Shirakawa-go farmhouses receive large amounts of snow. Ogimachi Village in particular gets covered by one to two meters of snow during the peak of snow season, turning Shirakawa-go into an idyllic wi...nter landscape. To make it even better, the village organises special illumination events on selected Sunday and Monday evenings in January and February that attract plenty of tourists.
