24.01.2022 Bias and unconscious bias affects us all. It is often - more often than not - subtle, isolating and felt-but-unexplained behaviours that thwart human progress and trust, which are two significant limitations to mental health and wellbeing. This includes being unfairly compromised and shut out for: standing up, speaking up, being stigmatised for doing a great job, threatening the status quo, performance feedback filtered through agenda or conformist theory or having a job t...itle that comes with an automatic flack attack. By opening up mental health as the core of mindset development, it widens individual vision and helps to find answers to the matters and questions of our mind ensuing from modern life. Many of these questions come from what we guess but never truly resolve in the testing scenarios of our uniquely personal and multi-dimensional lives. It is OK not to be OK. The job we have is to stop the intellectual self-harm that comes from coping with not being OK and feeling ill-at-ease through many rules of the corporate and life game. This is when the gut-wrenching truth of why are likely to not be OK comes to life, and when the inner narrative can fully evolve. You have the skills and power inside of you to heal and to redeem at any time. #limitless A message for everyone who has said that they are fine when they are not, probably since young adulthood and struggles with the words mental health, let alone personal shame experienced through unfair bias in any role, in any salary cap and in any performance ability. 24.01.2022 Throwback to my first season of competing as a fitness model in the 40+ category and my first ever photo shoot with the brilliant Bernie and Nolan from BAN Studios. I placed in all three comps that year and this was a great time, then aged 42. Fitness is consistency, consistency is truth. Unequivocally its consistency that is the win and the goal and grind all in one, because this is how to get outcomes and these outcomes can and do change over time. In making consiste...ncy work for you, its important to draw a clear boundary on whats healthy in the realm of fitness in your life. Its very easy to keep yourself busy in fitness when you are addicted to the busy drug, often as a way of tolerating or avoiding stress. Add on a belief that the more you train hard, the healthier you will be and your perspective can start to ignore the inescapable health impacts of stress and strain that does eventually catch up. Right now Im in a maintenance and in-between stage, awaiting dates for 2021 comps so that I can time another prep, should that be possible. This will necessitate some pre-prep work to make sure Im ready for the work in training and nutrition necessary to compete again. Every way and every which way, make it your goal to move every day. Every single day. Make sure you split the movement into different levels of intensity to have time to both physically and mentally recover. Stress takes a huge toll on cells and this includes the good stress of physical fitness training. When this training is high intensity and heavy, our cells are deliberately stressed in order to create changes, and to give them time to recover these sessions need to be cycled with lower intensity training, active rest and recovery. Lower intensity movement such as light walking, pilates or jogging is awesome, getting steps ups is gentle and soothing compared with strength training crossfit or HiiT. Make a plan to move every day and then build it around what you like to do so thats sustainable for the rest of your life. See more
24.01.2022 When I setup for my mindset training each day I have an established ritual and then a menu of tools for resetting during the day. There isnt a same day every day, and some days are harder than others. I run a business and have my partner and son with me, on top of my fitness training and creative time necessary every day - essential - my logistics and to-do-list is very full. This is a passionate life and it is an awesome life; it takes a lot of mindset work and transpar...ency with my loved ones and trusted circle to make it all happen and, at times, stay strong in the belief of a journey I started in 2017 (realistically 2015 when my marriage ended). I love having the flexibility and physicality of different actions to mix up my days through the limitless mindset technique I have designed and, although 2020 has thrown a few spanners in the works, it hasnt stopped the options and opportunities coming my way. When Ive had some low moments, I have dug really deep and done the grind of working in solitude on my mind from a very whole perspective to find a way through to mental elevation. You will find me sitting on my living room floor, walking as often as I can and lying down for a power nap on any given day; and you will vibe me practising gratitude as often as possible to start in light and the Zone of love for me and others. These low points have ranged from less intense fitness training than I am usually up for due to a number of urgent personal commitments, feeling knocked around by the different drugs Im on to tackle the white dot syndrome I suffer with - an autoimmune disease - to having wobbles on what next for my business growth. It all starts with an acceptance of mental health and the fact if its role as the foundation of your life, and your mindset. Thats where the stickiness of really live a life thats more free and less overwhelmed lies: the grind of mental health protocols along with mindset training to make it practical and accessible all the time. 22.01.2022 A reminder that we all started somewhere and this is me back in 2016. Still in the washing machine of life trauma and being held up my dont explain, dont complain routine. On one hand this was the best of times reclaiming a sense of my own independence and putting my life back together. I had had three major surgeries in the years prior to this pic, on top of being diagnosed with an auto-immune disease in my eye - white dot syndrome - meaning living with a chronic condi...tion for the rest of my life. Even though I thought this was pretty traumatic, especially after the years before where Id had a baby to become the sole breadwinner shortly after, watched my mother die at the age of 54, worked my way into a made-for-me high-flying job, moved countries meaning I had to give up that job, arriving to a very tough road to start over in Brisbane which was anything but easy after 16 years away from my city of birth - nothing could have prepared the lady in this photo for what was to come. That was breakdown, burnout, detachment and thoughts of ending my life, when all along Id been able to keep going no matter what. Its been like an accelerated whirlwind of life catching up to where I am destined to be, a hurtle of emotional and mental highs and lows that has given me freedom; at a huge price. It has also been the birth of a vision that came to me in my darkest hour, because this is a time when the vision and words for Live Life Limitless just came to me. I tell this story in the same vein as J.K. Rowling who expresses a similar revelation about Harry Potter on a train one day and at her own wits end. Today I am grateful to be here in the thick of 2020 and to know that its simple choices I can control; choices to interrupt the mental narrative with words and thoughts to create small actions every day. These are very simple things, but ones that I felt were a luxury for a very long time. 20.01.2022 Self-care stops false positive deflections and maintains a constant mental cue Similar to physical fitness, self-care is a rhythm of personal cues. This mental current is for repetition all day long, and is used to dig deeply when triggered to reclaim positive mental elevation. Be positive Keep going Keep the peace are deflections that form part of the coping modality and aid stress tolerance. They are false positives and lead to a head-in-the-sand block to taking ac...tion for improving health and wellness Instead, invest in cues that automatically feel compelling and effort inducing. Cues I use typically are (all part of my Live Life Limitless healing protocol): - Are my values aligned at this point? - The problem is, you is dont know what the problem is - Trust is the currency of change, transparency is essential - Pray - Believe - Hope These mental cues snap the #mindset out of negative spirals and level out overwhelm in the moment. Cumulative trauma in everyday life are the events in our lives that have caused us pain, particularly in the denial of who we are, what we truly desire and made endurance a painful daily protocol. This masks the truth of our daily need which transcends across all life bubbles and creates a focus on stress tolerance. We are told to build a thick skin at different points in our lives and that is unfortunately where the story ends. There is little warmth or compassion in such a statement, so we attach it to a black and white belief in the role of hard work and success. Very little is ever expressed or acknowledged in relation to the physical impact of that thick skin or the mental pain of holding everything together. Self-care are rituals of simplicity and consistency for you. The actions themselves are repetitive and healing, but its the complex mindset of misconception about resilience and endurance that have to be undone. The simple tasks of self-care are the foundation of unlearning the mindset for stress tolerance and forming genuine strength to face all situations of unknown outcomes. Each Life Bubble has stress and stressors within which people build a mindset for coping. This Coping Modality becomes so strong in enabling tolerance of stress to increase, that boundaries for mental health and wellness become blurred to the extent of being able to live with anxiety, PTSD, depression and suicidal thoughts on a daily basis. 18.01.2022 Aligned and free What would it feel like for you to know no fear and train daily in a form of fitness prowess that allows you to remain clear on your journey at all times? Its OK to pivot, change and demand more of the world and its leaders, in fact thats what Im all about. The absolutely, no-holding-back barnstorming paradigm shift that puts power-parasite, unseen forces of sabotage and unnecessary discrimination firmly on the way out is critical ... Transparency is a gift of life and its a mind of flow from the thinking to the speaking; no cynicism or second thought to fear of reprisal. There is going to be an invisible push to force status quo back onto a problem that will keep getting bigger. That is wrong and where a failure of leadership is a failure to change with the moral human connection of simple communication allowing for abject freedom of speech and connection. This is whats wrong and why the world needs to alter on its axis and fulfil the voice of all diverse groups. The unemployed, small business owners, educators, health professionals, public servants, hospitality workers, under-employed and impaired are just some of the diverse voices demanding to be heard right now. Mental health is the next wave of global change; and its the frontline battleground of surviving and thriving thats possible ahead. When I hung my HR boots up to change the whole course of my own life and destiny, I was still too cynical and naive to be brave enough to articulate the truth as I fully immerse myself in today. There is no rule that says a scented bubble on Friday nights is all thats permissible, or that you can only put your feet up on a single Day of Rest. Somewhere on the way we have been taught that acts of kindness to ourselves are slacking or lazy, and that being constantly in the service of others expectations is more important than your own. 14.01.2022 How to move beyond stagnation and build your #mindset One of the greatest challenges of a global crisis leading into recession is the feeling of uncertainty about your future and comparative lack of instant gratification on a daily basis. In short, you are slowed down in your life. For many I expect by now you have committed to the idea of a discipline of self-care and connected mentally with its central role in #health and wellness. I hope you have built some nice ritua...ls and look forward hearing them. You may have also begun a conscious connection to push through pain and confront setbacks and traumas, or committed to interrupting overthinking and overwhelm with self-care and mindset protocols. But what if the practical realities and the grind of remaining #positive and hopeful whilst doing these good deeds is not sufficient to remain strong, and instead you feel hollow and helpless despite your hard work? The reality of COVID is change and change is the name of the game. None of the pieces of any virus pie or debate will make sense to many for a while, so where is the focus of meaningful action to stop our amazing and powerful mind submitting to the despair and unhappiness that manifests in words like fear and uncertainty? There is no fitness program, recipe, pill or object that can step into the moments of doubt and #anxiety that creep in when no one is looking. You have to do the work to fight a battle with yourself at any given moment. 08.01.2022 A home-based workout Happy Friyay from me to you. All my training has been in these four walls this week. Whether it’s 5am or 6pm, I tell myself mental health is number one and get it done. Even when my routine changes, as it does running a business and doing the work, I set clear boundaries for exercise and keep up the consistency. It’s not perfect training at home because the intensity is not the same as working with decent weights and machines, and that’s where I fi...nd many find it tempting to give in. It’s not the ideal or not what the precaution says, so I can’t be bothered today. But that rollercoaster will always provide the excuses and challenge your standards for performance and wellbeing. Wellbeing can happen anywhere, anytime and anyplace. If you keep waiting for the right time or give in to the part of life that is about work and busy, then anxiety and stress increases, rising in force of impact. Stress doesn’t subside because it feeds off a lack of personal boundaries and poor mental discipline. This Groundhog Day on repeat prevents your personal emotional connection and in the zone love time, which can lead to Victim mentality, cynicism, self-sabotage and comfort zones around fear and judgement. No one else gives me health. In that equation for life is mental health and it’s the secret recipe that you whip up by yourself to repeat daily patterns of instructing your mind to perform tasks that help you to reset your perspective. 03.01.2022 I first went along to The Australian National Hotel - aka The Aussie Nash - in 2018 and stood before an audience as a way of getting across the urgent message of my vision for change urgency that was simply: its time to change the way we do change. Back then I called this group: Live Life Limitless, Choose Positive, Make the Choice: Mental Health is number one. Fast forward six months or so and I re-branded the event to Limitless Leaders and this photo was taken at the re...-launch with a sense that I wanted to provide connectedness for like-minded people who simply seek something different. In the events hosted over the years I have written my own little yearbook mentally to each event and been uniquely fortunate to meet some very like-minded and inspiring people indeed, all of whom with a common aspiration to do better and be better. People who have seen the truth of connecting mental health as the baseline to all mindset development to be better leaders, business owners, creatives, students, professionals and passionate souls on this earth. One week today I will return to The Aussie Nash to host my first face-to-face event for Limitless Leaders since the venue was closed earlier in 2020. The event is free, a training ground for the limitless mindset transformation technique, which I designed and developed to enable empowered leadership in times of perpetual change. Entitled: The Art of Limitless Leadership in 2020 my aim is to provide inspiration on the fact of human connection and emotional engagement as the single most important differential in making change happen. Despite the fact we know 2020 has had its ups and downs, the major necessity is to rebuild stronger and better than before. 02.01.2022 Throwback to one year ago and time for school camp, Max’s first ever. One year later and this year’s school camp was done over two days at school, on the oval. He loved it. We also loved this day all the way back in 2019; it was a new adventure, independence coming and I waved that bus off long after it had left.... Max is 10 years old now and growing up very fast. I hope to give him all the skills I have about mental health and resilience; of making space for the choices of adventure, learning and fun that suit his personality and talents.
