Stretching these two muscles in particular can have a monumental positive impact on your existence. These muscles are involved in just about every activity you do that involves your head, neck, upper arm and upper back. Whether it be; driving a car, using a laptop, working out, doing a sport, using a phone, cooking, cleaning, playing guitar, reading a book or even just watching the telly. You are using these muscles all day every day! As I have discussed with you, stress, whether it be mental, physical, emotional, spiritual or other kinds, can affect the trapezius muscle via one of its direct innervations. This is the Accessory Nerve, which is a Cranial Nerve coming directly from the brain. It relates to Fight or Flight response . That is why you might feel your Shoulders are up around your ears when you are dealing with stress Remember, stretching should not be painful. Maybe slightly uncomfortable but not painful. If you are unsure if these stretches are safe for you to do, you must seek clarification from a practitioner before proceeding.
