20.01.2022 THORACIC STABILTY SERIES 1/3 - SUPINE ARM FLOATS The thoracic spine is the core of all upper body movement - the ribs connect to the thoracic spine and the shoulder blades rest on the rib cage. The upper thoracic spine works as one with the lower cervical spine (neck) and the lower thoracic spine works as one with the lumbar spine (lower back). Arm floats with a band is the perfect stability/motor control exercise for this region of the body. ... 1. Start lying on your back with neutral spine, knees bent and feet flat. 2. Place a light loop band around the wrists, pressing outwards slightly with elbows soft and arms relaxed on the hips. 2. Lift the arms up overhead and stop right before you feel your thoracic spine start to move. Always imagine SPACE BETWEEN THE ARMPITS as you do this, in order ensure there is no gripping of the lats, pecs or upper traps. 3. Maintain space as you lower back down to start position and repeat. You may feel this exercise working the muscles in the arms, shoulders and rhomboids (between the spine and shoulder blades). Try for 12 reps and 2-3 sets! Let us know how you go

19.01.2022 The team at Lively is wishing you all a Merry Christmas! Hope you are all staying safe and enjoying your holiday with your loved ones!

16.01.2022 MEET OUR NEW MASSAGE THERAPIST AIDAN! Aidan is available on Monday, Thursday and Friday from Jan 11th! Find out more about Aidan below ... Aidan is a massage therapist from a small town in West Virginia, USA. After moving to Australia in 2018, she completed her Diploma of Massage Therapy in 2019 and has spent her short time in the industry discovering her passion for helping those seeking optimal health. Aidan especially has a fervour for helping clients struggling with stress, anxiety, and depression. Her personal journey towards mental and physical wellbeing, and her understanding of how the body and mind work together to achieve optimal wellness, has given her a compassionate outlook when supporting her clients in their journey to peak health. Some of her favourite clients to work with are uni students, mothers, and senior citizens, however Aidan's door is open to all who are seeking to optimise their health. While some of her goals had to be deferred due to the 2020 interruptions to achieving the best further learning, Aidan is optimistically enthusiastic about 2021, and intends to take courses in pregnancy massage, aromatherapy, and dry needling to further her learning and enhance her practice. Further into the future, she's excited to delve into the world of energy work to deepen her understanding of the complexity of the human psyche. Outside of the clinic, Aidan can most commonly be found at the gym lifting weights, running through the beautiful Australian bush, or relaxing at the beach.

07.01.2022 THORACIC STABILTY SERIES 2/3 - WALL SLIDES WITH FOAM ROLLER The serratus anterior (also known as the boxer’s muscle) is a core muscle of stability in the shoulder and thoracic region. It originates on the 1st to 8th ribs and attaches on the middle border of the shoulder blade. The action of the serratus anterior is to pull the shoulder blade forward around the thorax. 1. Start standing with foam roller placed horizontally on wall, band around wrists and forearms pressing i...nto the foam roller. Ensure spine is neutral throughout movement. 2. Maintain slight tension against band and forearms parallel as you roll the forearms up the wall, maintaining pressure on the foam roller. 3. Only go as high as you can maintain neutral spine. 4. Maintain same distance between hands and forearms as you roll back down to start position. 5. Repeat for 8-10 reps. See more

04.01.2022 Pilates Instructor wanted for Wednesday and Thursday afternoons and Saturday mornings for semi-private studio Pilates sessions and mat classes. Preference for polestar graduates, but happy to accept all applicants. To start in January 2021. ... Please share this ad

03.01.2022 To complete our thoracic stability series, we are finishing with the most challenging of the 3 exercises. The quadruped reach challenges shoulder blade control the most as you are required to maintain complete stability of the thoracic region whilst moving your arms. As you can see from the video, Cassie’s upper back/shoulder blade region is barely moving as she moves her arms. Try it out and see for yourself!... 1. Start in a quadruped position with hands directly underneath shoulders and knees directly underneath hips. Ensure spine is neutral throughout movement. 2. Maintain a neutral spine alignment and shoulder blades flat on the upper back as you shift your weight onto one hand and slowly reach the opposite arm out in front of you. 3. Bring the arm back down and then complete on the opposite side, always maintaining the stability of the upper back. 4. Repeat for 8-10 reps.

02.01.2022 More happy snaps with (nearly all of the) LIVELY TEAM
