19.01.2022 As many of you know, new laws designed to protect animals from suffering on board live export ships in the searing summer months came into effect two weeks ago.... Sadly, they’ve just failed their first test, with the industry regulator granting an exemption that will see thousands of sheep shipped in boiling conditions. It’s been a very long and sleepless few days for our incredible legal team who secured an urgent trial in the Federal Court in a bid to challenge the decision-making process. We’re sorry to report that this afternoon, our case was dismissed. We put everything we had into representing these animals and made the strongest possible case as to why the very laws designed to protect them must be upheld. And we know that these efforts were fuelled by the hopes and hearts of countless caring people around the world. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts to everyone who leaped into action to defend these animals it’s your support that empowers us to always be right where the animals need us most and giving them the strongest possible representation If you’re feeling angry or heart-broken, you’re not alone. On days like this, our resilience and optimism are tested. But it’s also times like this that the animals need us to hold them and our vision of a kinder, more compassionate world firmly in our hearts. To channel our sadness into action. To come back even stronger and to keep on fighting for each and every animal condemned to this callous trade, for as long as it takes. Are you with us?
13.01.2022 Today on International Respect for Chickens Day we remember the Lakesland Hens, who perished at the hands of the farmer and welfare authorities. We salute the b...rave citizens who tried to intervene to rescue those hens in dire need. We continue to provide pro bono legal representation for the rescuers who have been charged and punished for doing so. The appeal against their conviction and sentence is currently before the Supreme Court of NSW. We shall not forget the suffering of the Lakesland Hens, and pay our respects to them and the millions of chickens like them who are unnecessarily bred, born, forced to reproduce, otherwise exploited, then killed. We also salute the work of people who provide shelter to rescued chickens, like A Poultry Place and NSW Hen Rescue.
