22.01.2022 Dame Sheila Sherlock - one of the first women hepatologists #IWD2019

22.01.2022 AP - Report Day 16 Through The Waist passage, but a white day. Everyone last night felt tired. By nine, the tent village was totally quiet. Glad we got some g...ood rest as today was energy demanding. We wake up in the whiteout. By 0930, we are on the skies. Few pockets of blue sky are above our heads during the first leg until the whiteout gets thicker and the visibility disappears. The day stays white. For nearly 12km, we ski uphill. Phil and I help each other with navigation as we take turns leading the team. 10 degrees right! Spot on! 5 left and so on... To me, navigating in the white out is more tiring than skiing. It takes a lot of energy and concentration. After the effort, we all enjoy the warmth of the tent and the rumbling sound of the stove. Its 1934, lamb fettuccine and other spaghetti bolognaise are cooked. Yummy! The good news is... we went through a narrow passage called The Waist (shame we did not see but we cant have it all). Also! We are getting closer to the Reclus peninsula, guys!! Cheers See more

17.01.2022 Drone delivers organ for transplant to a kidney recipient

17.01.2022 Former NHS chef Trevor Williams, 69, from Waterlooville, Hampshire, was the first NHS patient to receive a liver transplant using the metra at the Royal Free. H...e was diagnosed with inoperable liver cancer in November last year and told the only treatment was a transplant. He was about to undergo the transplant in March but it had to be cancelled at the last minute when the donated liver was deemed unsuitable. A week later he was matched with a new donor liver, which was first assessed on the OrganOx device. https://www.standard.co.uk//machine-that-keeps-livers-aliv

07.01.2022 AP - Report Day 8 White out? Who cares we are on the plateau ;-). The really good thing about being on the plateau is that we can navigate even though the vis...ibility is poor. After a tough day yesterday going up the ramp, we allow us one more hour of sleep. Oh yeah, I forgot... also because we had a little party yesterday with chocolate, whiskey and cigars. Ahahahah next level expedition!! The wind is blowing. For the first time, we have to have our knees in the ground to keep control of the tent. Its 1045am, off we go. When I think about this place, we are skiing at 2000 meters on this big white surrounded by one of the wildest ocean on earth. Incredible! The team is doing good. We progress for more than 10km. Not a big number but its uphill most of the time and yesterday flattened us. 1745, lets call it a day guys! Its really a polar environment and we get ice sticking to our face masks. Dear Mother Nature, please be kind with us on that high plateau... Sweet dreams! See more
