25.01.2022 LAST WEEK Wasn't it great to see our President wearing the presidential collar? He looked great and that put a lot of energy into the meeting. Well done Baz! We had a fair turnout with 10 members present. Noel continues to be suspended, not by us however, but by his family, Willo is still recovering in hospital and there were a couple of other no-shows. Despite our diminishing numbers, it was another very enjoyable night. Our guest speaker was Brian Layland who spoke to us ...Continue reading
24.01.2022 Today, our community services director Grant De Fries and Club Secretary David Pace, had the pleasure of presenting a cheque to the Miracle Babies Foundation, whom are Australia's leading organisation for premature and sick newborns, their families and the hospitals caring for them. Below are a few of the amazing women who have helped make this foundation what it is today!

21.01.2022 Last week, we celebrated our 71st Annual Changeover. Members and guests came together to congratulate President Ron Watkins on a fantastic year and induct incoming President Barry Hancock. We had apologies from Noel Love (isolating in a Bunnings Warehouse somewhere), John Adam (last seen skiing down a mountain with no skis on), John Williams, Bill Regan, Laurie Nelson and Peter Tyas. We hope to see you all again soon. A welfare report was given by Ron Watkins, John Williams...Continue reading
20.01.2022 LAST WEEK The meeting was opened on time by President Ron. Apologies were received from John Adam, Brian Layland and Bernard Parker. Brian is still recovering from his treatment and is unable to attend. The President reported as follows:... There is a new calendar for future events, which is included in this Bulletin. A BBQ was held at Bunnings Cross Roads on 1 February where the takings were $1,300, therefore after expenses of $400, the profit was approximately $900. Extreme heat affected all of our volunteers, especially Garry & Lydia who took two hours to pack up. One of our Members suffered a diabetic episode and left in poor health. The President has completed reading the book Creatures of Habit by Maril Huddleston. Some facts discovered were: o Rotary membership is in decline. o Most members are 70+. o Still low numbers of females. o No real cultural diversity. o Procedures are outdated. o Meeting are too formal. o Too many meetings. o Costs of being a member. We must change if we are to survive! Sadly, Merle Catlin (nee Flegg) passed away and her funeral service was held on Tuesday 4 February at St Lukes in Liverpool. CLUB NEWS Secretary David outlined a project to support a school project in India. We could not assist as we have other projects. Secretary David also reported that Shaun Jackson had completed his 1-kilometre ocean swim for the Can-Too Cancer Research Foundation. The Liverpool Rotary Club is very proud of Shauns efforts and congratulate him on raising funds and awareness for such a worthy cause. Former members Craig Dwyer and Danny Avalos were there with Shaun all the way on his swim and together with the Campbelltown Swim Pod (which our club sponsors), have raised close to $30,000 for cancer research. Well done! Club Services Director Barry spoke on many relevant topics including cancelling Bunnings BBQs in the event of extreme heat. Community Services Director Noel reported that we have been asked to support the Shave for a Cure BBQ at Bunnings Hoxton Park on 14 March. We could not get a full crew. We will ask the Leukaemia Foundation if they could assist with some volunteers. Oops! In the last Bulletin the Assistant Editor missed the birthday of Bill Regan on 13 January. Apologies. It will be better when the real Editor returns! The meeting closed early to enable a Club Assembly to take place. In regards to the Club Assembly and we would like to congratulate the members who have been elected to the Board for 2020/21 (like they had a choice) o President Elect; Barry Hancock o Secretary; David Pace o Treasurer; Peter Bach o Community Service; Noel Love o Youth Services; Margaret Favelle o Club Welfare; Margaret Favelle o Fundraising Team; David Pace, Peter Bach, Garry Miller. A big thank you to all the non-Rotarians who have helped at the BBQs and attended Rotary functions throughout the past year.

19.01.2022 LAST WEEK Last week we had apologies from Bernard, Brian, Harry, John A and John W. Our Guest Speaker was Blake Miller (Garry’s son). He spoke on the subject of how to grow the membership of our Club using social media, especially Facebook. His first question was How we can help? He did a canvas of all members to ask our reasons for joining Rotary. Some of the responses were: ...Continue reading

16.01.2022 LAST MEETING Last week President Ron started the meeting right on time at 6.30 pm and immediately declared the meeting an NRL free zone after his beloved Parramatta Eels were bundled out of the semi-finals. We had apologies from Peter Bach, John Adam and Bernard Parker, but then Bernard turned up and was still there before our perennial latecomer Noel Love appeared. Much to the dismay of our President, Noel was brandishing a Parramatta Eels poster crying What's the matter,...Continue reading

15.01.2022 LAST WEEK Last week we had a special guest speaker and another then our very own Bazza who spoke to us about the 3801. Yes, the 3801 is a famous locomotive which led to the manufacture of limited edition toy trains of which Barry has got a couple and no doubt sold to his grandson. The history of the 3801 is interesting. Commissioned in 1943, finishing in 1976 and at its peak had a top speed of 120 km/h which is faster than nearly any train on the tracks today. The good news...Continue reading
14.01.2022 Anzac Day is a time to reflect on the servicemen and servicewomen, past and present, who have displayed courage and self-sacrifice serving our country. Lest we forget.

13.01.2022 LAST WEEK At our Club Assembly we had a good roll up with apologies from Bernard, Bill, and Alan Petersen, so it was a good night to discuss all things Rotary. We also had last weeks guest, Adrian, return and also our President welcomed back Brian and Willo, who were missing in action for the latter part of last year. We started our Assembly by having our Board elections, none more important than our 2019/20 President. Unfortunately, Barry has had to relinquish the job due ...Continue reading
13.01.2022 LAST MEETING It has been a couple of weeks since our last meeting. Secretary David was an apology at the last meeting. Only one member thought he was a sook but his name will be withheld, and the good news is that David pulled through the operation well and is recovering. David should be back at the club in the next year or so. As the last meeting was the fifth Monday of the month we had a lot of our guests there as well which was great for the night and we trust everyone ha...Continue reading

10.01.2022 LAST MEETING Last week we had apologies from John A, David, Barry, Margaret and Bernard. President Shaun declared that we would have another informal meeting as we had very few members present. Some features of informal meetings are: We all sit at one table. The lectern is not used.... There is no Grace or National Anthem. There are no rules! There are no formal reports. And there is plenty of beer! The guest speaker for the meeting was the very well-known member by the name of Brian Layland (specialist is optometry). Brian recounted the following memories: o In 1940 he was selling newspapers at Ingleburn Army Camp and earning 50 pence per day. Not bad for an 8-year-old! o His father was enlisted in the Army and served overseas for 20 pence per day. o He was friendly with a young Aboriginal soldier and became aware of the disadvantage in the Aboriginal community. o In later years, he helped establish an optometry service for Aboriginal communities in NSW and NT. o He was flown to various communities to provide specialist services at no cost to recipients. o Seeing a need for improved service, he helped establish a fund to build the Aboriginal Health College at Little Bay. o The College is still in operation and has provided successful instruction to Aboriginal students for more than 10 years. CLUB NEWS Shaun reminded everyone about the coming events which we can all attend. John Adam could not attend last weeks meeting as he was recovering from the birth of his second grandchild - a girl named Ivy Anne! Congratulations to John and Anne from all at our Club. Noel left his Ibox at home so he promised to pay for his meal next week. (Treasurer.please note!) Noel also finalised our BBQ for 1 June 2019 at Bunnings Hoxton Park. He will circulate a new roster this week. Overall Shaun conducted a very enjoyable meeting! You should have been there. COMING WEEKS Sat 22nd June - Bunnings BBQ at Cross Roads. Mon 15th July - Changeover night. Tues 3rd Sept - Police Officer of the Year Dinner at the Liverpool Catholic Club. Sun 24th Nov - Our 70th Birthday function this will be held as a lunch, hopefully at the Inglis complex at Warwick Farm. Make sure you and your partners attend and any old Rotarian is more than welcome. Start inviting people, fellows. BULLETIN EDITORIAL After this weeks attempt of a Bulletin, thank God Im back. Next weeks Bulletin will be better, I assure you!!!
09.01.2022 LAST WEEK Last week we welcomed Margaret Regan who came to our 5th Monday of the month meeting, which is of course a social night, which was advised in our Bulletin two weeks ago. It is good to see that both Bill and Margaret read the Bulletin but perhaps not so good from our new Boards point of view in cancelling the night at a moments notice. Hopefully Margaret you enjoyed the night and we certainly enjoyed having you with us. Last week we continued to have apologies from...Continue reading
09.01.2022 LAST MEETING: Last week we had apologies from Secretary David, Brian and Noel. Noel apparently left his headlights on which is a common thing for Noel, ie the lights are on, but no ones home. Also President Shaun apologised for being there, or at least should have. Our three-minuter was given by the second-best lawyer in the Club who basically whinged for 3 minutes about councils, engineers, the Australian Building Code, government red tape and basically everyone involved ...Continue reading

08.01.2022 This is what Rotary is all about, changing lives all over the world.
07.01.2022 Just a reminder to all our members and friends of Rotary.
06.01.2022 Volume: 73 Number: 29 Date: Monday 15th June 2020 TONIGHT: Firstly, we would like to congratulate Brian & Jeanette Layland on their 65th wedding anniversary! Brian is still in hospital, so unfortunately the occasion cannot be celebrated in the fashion it deserves, but the Club wishes them well. Our first meeting back after 10 weeks of coronavirus lockdown occurred on 1 June and it was great to see each other in person, despite social distancing and hand sanitiser becoming th...Continue reading

04.01.2022 LAST MEETING Last week we had apologies from Bernard, Barry and John A. Shaun welcomed back Brian Layland, and also welcomed our guest, Pam Bach. Shaun thanked David Pace for the great effort in organising our successful Golf Day on 10 May 2019.... Our guest speaker was Master Clockmaker Andrew Markerink from Camden. He has been a Clockmaker for 22 years and has family history in clockmaking for over a century. Andrew has operated in Europe and England. Some interesting facts about clockmaking: Watches were first made in 1524. The worlds most expensive watch was sold last year for US$6.4 million. It was a Patik watch. There are many forms of clocks and watches and he was able to allow our members to handle at least 10 different samples. He has repaired our Rotary clock in Bigge Park. It was a fascinating verbal presentation (no slideshow, video or powerpoint) and Andrew was totalling entertaining. Our best presentation in recent years! You should have been there to watch him! Watch him! Get it? Mr Perfect gave a less-than-perfect 3 Minuter on the history of Liverpool Rotary, Liverpool City, and Campbelltown. Peter Bach did a very capable job on fines and managed to tell three good jokes which we had not heard before. Community Service Director, Noel Love, said he may not be back next week as he is skydiving on Tuesday! Here he is below and guess what? He made it! CLUB NEWS - Our Golf Day raised a total of $19,000 which, after expenses of approximately $6,000 are deducted, sees a net amount of $13,000 raised a very successful function. Well done to everyone but especially David. Great work David. - David has made contact with Miracle Babies which is a local charity involved with premature babies. We have agreed to make a donation to their Miracle Babies All or Nothing campaign see photos below. Grant and David volunteered to attend their Open Day on 14 May 2019 where they presented them with a cheque.
04.01.2022 LAST WEEK Last week we had a few members absent. David and Noel had little sniffles so naturally they could not come. Brian is still recovering but will hopefully be here this week. Bernard was on his way but that thing happened to him again. The members amused each other at the meeting. Firstly, Margaret showed us her Anzac quilt and if you haven't seen it have a look at the back of the bulletin. Wow! What a great quilt. Well done Margaret. The members have requested that s...Continue reading
