22.01.2022 At Campbelltown Local Court today, we successfully defended a client charged with: Drive Whilst Disqualified: http://tinyurl.com/32zrdqo ; and Refuse/Fail to submit urine sample: http://tinyurl.com/3584jdt... The central issue was what constituted "driving". The client faced a lengthy custodial sentence if he was found guilty, as he was currently on parole for other offences.

21.01.2022 These are some major changes to a first home benefits regime that has been ongoing for the past 7 years. How this news impacts our work, price pressures, and customer attitude, only time will tell.

21.01.2022 So, why did the HCA declare the "refugee swap deal" as invalid? The HCA examined Section 198A of the Migration Act 1958, and ruled that Malaysia was not a country that was "fit" for the processing of asylum claims.

20.01.2022 http://www.smh.com.au/nsw/behindthebench?rand=1287360123026 Sydney Morning Herald journalists go behind-the-scenes to look at the daily lives of Judges and Magistrates: - what they do for a laugh; ... - what they do for stress relief; - what most concerns them about the current legal process, and changing trends of offending behaviour; - frustrations at their inability to speak out about political and "shock jock" comments in the media. An insightful read, for both the general public as well as legal practitioners.

19.01.2022 The upgrade to this resource from the old search tool (http://tinyurl.com/6c2fvwo) will allow the public ease of access to information, such as being able to look up when their next Court appearance is, where it is listed, and what it is listed for. For lawyers, this tool allows us to be more efficient with our preparations for Court and to provide more accurate and up to date information to our clients.

12.01.2022 The High Court of Australias ("HCA") decision yesterday to rule as invalid the "refugee swap deal" with Malaysia has been one of the most publicised decisions of the HCA in recent times. Prior to examining yesterdays decision by the HCA, lets first look at the role of the High Court of Australia...

12.01.2022 How long can the Sydney property market keep running? It is the question on everybodys minds, and something that we get asked regularly. If the sales results from Saturday are any indication, it appears as though momentum is still unbelievably strong. Biggest ever auction day on record, 28 March 2015. There were 1128 listed auctions resulting in a mind-boggling clearance rate of 88% !!

11.01.2022 Lengthening prison terms and hence keeping offenders behind bars longer is not the solution to reducing crime in NSW... Excellent report by the NSW Bureau of Crime and Research. See below - Short media release: http://www.bocsar.nsw.gov.au//ll_bo/pages/bocsar_mr_cjb158... Full report: http://www.bocsar.nsw.gov.au///cjb158.pdf/$file/cjb158.pdf

10.01.2022 The main role of the HCA is to "To interpret and uphold the Australian Constitution and perform the functions of the ultimate appellate court in Australia". In other words, the HCA is the highest court in our judicial system, to hear both original and appellate (appeal) matters.

10.01.2022 Ever wondered about your APPEAL rights? Been given a sentence in the Local Court that you feel is too harsh? Found guilty by a Magistrate but you still assert your innocence? You (the appellant) have 28 days from the date of your conviction or sentence to lodge an appeal (to the District Court).

09.01.2022 The place where dreams are made and broken :) A few million dollars ($7.5M) and 14 months later, the "new" Liverpool Court is now officially open for business. Outside facelift, an extra court room, improved security, improved disabled access, more interview rooms. Given all the work done to her, it is (put it mildly) surprising, that Liverpool Court will no longer deal with indictable matters. Indictable matters are being shifted to Campbelltown Court.

07.01.2022 An article which appears in this weeks Liverpool Leader raising awareness for this weekends Amy Gillett Foundation "Parra Pedal". It features Andy Tran of our office who gave his thoughts on what he thought the ride meant to him, and what he hopes to "Parra Pedal" will achieve.

06.01.2022 This occurred yesterday afternoon just round the corner to our office in Liverpool. We at AT Legal initially thought it was a Police drug bust, but it turned out to be something altogether different... "Liverpool police crime manager Det-Insp Danny Doherty would not confirm the exact accelerant used. Were treating it as suspicious circumstances, Det-Insp Doherty said."

06.01.2022 All the best to Daniel Ricciardo in this weekend's Australian F1 Grand Prix. First race of the 2015 season, how exciting!

05.01.2022 We hope that everyone is having a lovely Easter. In spite of the wet weather in Sydney, isn't it great to have four consecutive days away from work!

04.01.2022 In the District Court, if you have been found guilty before a Jury but still protest your innocence, then under the Criminal Appeal Act 1912 and also the Criminal Appeal Rules you may lodge a Notice of Intention to Appeal (Form IVA). This must also be carried within 28 DAYS of conviction.

03.01.2022 The High Court of Australia (HCA) today delivered its verdict in the much highly publicised case of ICAC v Margaret Cunneen. It was the first time in the almost thirty year history if ICAC that the HCA has had to consider and assess the scope of ICACs powers (under the ICAC Act). The HCA concluded (via a 4 to 1 majority) that ICAC had NO power to investigate Ms Cunneens conduct. http://www.hcourt.gov.au//judgm/2015/hca-14-2015-04-15.pdf
