24.01.2022 Talking Business Tuesday. Rookie mistake Number 3 - Trying too hard to impress. When you’re at a Networking event, do you ever feel like you may be a small potato in the crowd? Well you’re not alone. It seems that many people overcompensate by presenting themselves as more important than they really are. Of course, it’s oh-so tempting to boost your resume and brag on potential future successes, but chances are people will find out the truth eventually, making you look lik...e an untrustworthy and foolish person. Oh and here’s another good point Pretending to be someone you’re not, may cost you the chance to gain mentors or other benefits. They DO NOT like to work with people who are not authentic as their reputation is damaged in a case of guilt by association. Bottom line: Be yourself. You’ll gain more respect and make more real connections. Enjoy! #authenticity #networking See more

24.01.2022 Talking Business Tuesday. Want to be a subject matter expert? 3 words - Practice and Record. Please don't forget the basic rule of delivering a good presentation: practice. Our team doesn't always like it, but we recommend that they rehearse for upcoming presentations far more than they're accustomed to doing them. Because, if you have your presentation down cold, you'll be far more confident and you’ll make more eye contact. A simple tool that's already part of Zoom and ...other platforms is the record button. Use it. Simply start a new meeting with no audience, look into your webcam, and record your presentation. Then, watch the recording. You might catch yourself breaking eye contact more often than you think. Once you do, you'll know what to fix in the next practice session. :-) Enjoy! #practicemakesprofessional #professionalsmakemoney See more

23.01.2022 Must Do Monday. You MUST know that when you can’t control your circumstances, not to let your circumstances control you. As my mentor saysThere are two times you should never worry about something. One is, when you can do something about it and, the other iswhen you can’t. I came across this small story that sums this advice up perfectly. On March 22, 2012, the state army of Mali stormed the presidential palace, overthrowing the Western African country’s 20-year-old dem...ocracy. In the turmoil, militants took control of two-thirds of the country and crushed the upcoming democratic elections. It was a tragic moment when the coup happened, says the then Mayor of the small town of Ouélessébougou, located approximately 40 miles from the chaos. I came into my living room and completely collapsed on the couch. My wife came and kicked me. I couldn’t believe it. I told her, ‘I am looking for sympathy here. Why are you kicking me?’ She only said, Get out there and go do something. Whether you get off the couch on your own or require a little nudge from somewhere else, the point is to get out there and do something. Learn to make this another Must Do. 23.01.2022 Fired Up Friday. The Fired-Up Leader won't say Yes unless they really want to. In today's interconnected world, it would seem that for the vast majority of us, we are people-pleasers. They wish to please people and as a result, they tend to agree and say yes to things that they might not agree with or wish to do. However, research shows that the more difficulty that you have saying no, the more likely you are to experience stress, burnout and even depression, all of whi...ch make it difficult to take charge of your career. Saying no is indeed a major challenge for many people. "No" is a powerful word that you should not be afraid to wield. So when it's time to say no, make sure you avoid phrases like "I don't think I can" or "I'm not certain." Saying No to a new commitment honours your existing commitments and gives you the opportunity to successfully fulfill them all. Fired-Up Leaders respect their limited time and as a result, will say no to most things that are not a blip on their radar. Enjoy! #itsokaytosayno #prioritize See more

22.01.2022 Talking Business Tuesday. Number 4 - Staying quiet. It can be overwhelming to be surrounded by other entrepreneurs, some of whom are perhaps further along the road to success than you are. Don’t let that fact keep you from stepping up and talking to people. If you’ve never attended an event like this before, start slowly. Walk up to someone who’s also standing alone, and make an innocuous comment such as, quite a crowd here tonight, or is this your first time here? It ...doesn’t matter what you say. The goal is to START a conversation. Within a few seconds you’ll know whether the person you approached is interested in talking or not. If not, say some casual wrap-up remark and move on. Chances are that there are others in the room who don’t know how to network, and who would appreciate your approach. A word of caution though: while I mentioned not only going after the big names in the room, it’s also a big mistake to only stick with the wallflowers. You need to muster the courage to get in on other conversations, or you won’t maximize the benefits of networking. Enjoy! #networking #starttalking See more

22.01.2022 Fired Up Friday. The Fired-Up Leader won't seek perfection. Don't set perfection as your target. Why? Because it doesn't exist. Human beings, by our very nature, are imperfect. When perfection is your goal, you're always left with a nagging sense of failure that makes you want to give up or reduce your effort. You end up spending your time lamenting what you failed to accomplish and what you should have done differently instead of moving forward excited about what you've ac...hieved and what you will accomplish in the future. So, Fired-Up Leaderforget perfection and instead work to experience excellence. Enjoy! #perfectneveris #excellence See more

20.01.2022 Those Things Thursday. That ‘thing’ called PRESENCE. I’m talking about ‘the’ presentno, not today, not this hour, but this exact moment. I mean sure, you might even be getting chewed out by your supervisor at work, but what in this exact moment is happening that is so bad? Learn to let go of the comment he/she made five minutes ago. Don’t even consider what she/he might say five minutes from now. Instead, focus on this one, individual moment and just stay right there. I...n most situations, you’ll soon find it’s not even close to as bad as you first imagine it to be. Most sources of negativity stem from a memory of a recent event or the exaggerated imagination of a potential future event. The lesson? Stay in the present moment. 20.01.2022 Fired Up Friday. The Fired-Up Leader creates opportunities to connect offline. You've probably heard and understand the saying, "People want to do business with people they know, like and trust." So how will someone know if they like you, if they haven't met you? As a Fired-Up business owner who is looking to market his or her brand, you should be on the lookout for opportunities to get face time with movers and shakers in your network. Here’s a few examples of how you ca...n get started - Host a meet-up at a local restaurant whenever you travel for business. (You can easily do this via Facebook, but even a simple group email can work, too). - Attend events featuring people from your network as guest speakers. (Handy tip - let them know ahead of time that you'd like to meet up and introduce yourself). - Set up one or two meetings over coffee each week with new people in your network. Doing this, shows your team that you are always working to build and expand making you a Fired-Up Leader. Enjoy! #LeadershipByExample #firedupleadership See more

20.01.2022 Those Things Thursday. That ‘thing’ called GROWTH. Hey, quick fact check and - you aren’t perfect. Neither am I. In fact, we’re going to make mistakes and experience failure in multiple contexts, at multiple jobs and with multiple people. So here’s the key Instead of focusing on how you failed, think about what you’re going to do next time. Turn your failure into a lesson. Then conceptualize this in concrete rules. For example, you could come up with three new rules for ...better effectively managing a difficult scene, perhaps during a chaotic period as a result. The lesson? Learn to turn your failures into lessons. Enjoy! See more

19.01.2022 Must Do Monday. You MUST redefine personal accountability. If the mere mention of the word ‘accountability’ makes you shudder, then this one if for you. The negative (and often uninspiring) view of accountability is reinforced in the dictionary as: Subject to having to report, explain or justify; being answerable, responsible. However, staying true to yourself and your goals should not be extra work. You must view your accountability as being a gift to yourself, simply a ...voluntary mindset to ensure success, not something you’re force-feeding yourself even though you hate it. If you say you will (or won’t) do something, then just stick to that. Make this another must do. Enjoy! #beyourword #cleargoals See more

16.01.2022 Must Do Monday. You MUST think as if your life depended on it. When you shift to a determined, creative mindset, you begin to discover solutions for challenges of which you may have believed were out of your control. When these times occur ask yourself this question - If your life depended on it, would you come up with a new idea or strategy to save yourself? Absolutely. The goal you want to achieve or the problem you want to solve is most likely NOT a life-or-death scenari...o, but many creative solutions can come when you decide to put everything on the line. While your life may not be at risk, your happiness and success are. So make this, another Must Do. Enjoy! #decide #happiness #success See more

16.01.2022 Wisdom & Habits Wednesday. The happiest people EXERCISE. Think exercise is something you don't have time for? Think again. A 30min walk is but 2% of your day. That's a workout any of us can fit into our schedules. Exercise has such a profound effect on our happiness and well-being that it is an effective strategy for overcoming depression. You don't have to be depressed to benefit from exercise, though. Exercise can help you relax, increase your brainpower, and even improve... your body image, even if you don't lose any weight. Look at what it does to our brains, such as releasing proteins and endorphins that make us feel happier. Even if your actual appearance doesn't change, how you feel about your body does change. Make time to exercise dailyyou’ll be happier when you do. Enjoy! #Exercise #happiness #yourlifebydesign See more

16.01.2022 Must Do Monday. You MUST make it happen! Easy said, I know. So, how do you do that? How do we really make our personal accountability work for us? I mean wouldn’t it be easy if there were just some switch we could flip? A J-F-D-I ‘button’ we could push? Perhaps even, an app we could use? Well, there really is a flipping magical switch-app-button. It’s called making a choice and acting on it. You have the choice to fulfill your aspirations or wallow in the blame game and vi...ctim cycle. True success doesn’t come from the outside but from within. There is no wizard or secret. Taking greater personal accountability is the key to succeeding in everything you do. When you make this a MUST DO, life gets harder for a period but easier long term. 15.01.2022 Those Things Thursday. That ‘thing’ called POSITIVITY. Negative self-talk can creep up easily and is often hard to notice. You might think I’m so bad at this or I shouldn’t have tried that. But these thoughts turn into internalized feelings and might cement your conceptions of yourself. When you catch yourself doing this, stop and replace those negative messages with positive ones. For example, I’m so bad at this becomes Once I get more practice, I’ll be way better at... this. I shouldn’t have even tried becomes That didn’t work out as planned - maybe next time? The lesson? Transform negative self-talk into positive self-talk. Enjoy! #selftalk #positivity See more

10.01.2022 Fired Up Friday. The Fired-Up Leader knows to focus on solutions. Where you focus your attention determines your emotional state. So when you fixate on the problems that you're facing, you create and also prolong negative emotions which hinder your ability to reach your goals. 09.01.2022 Wisdom & Habits Wednesday. The happiest people get GREAT sleep. We know that sleep helps our body recover from the day and repair itself and that it helps us focus and be more productive. It turns out however, that sleep is also important for happiness. Sleep affects our positivity in that negative stimuli is processed by the amygdala; positive or neutral memories get processed by the hippocampus. Sleep deprivation hits the hippocampus harder than the amygdala. This results... in sleep-deprived people failing to recall pleasant memories yet recall gloomy memories exceptionally well. And, haven’t we all been there before?? Of course, how well (and how long) you sleep will probably affect how you feel when you wake up, which can make a difference to your entire day. This has a clear impact on performance, including both how much work we perform AND how well we perform it. Want greater happiness? Get better sleep. Enjoy! #sleepwell #happiness See more

08.01.2022 Talking Business Tuesday. Mistake Number 2 - Focusing only on the big fish. Man, this one annoys me big time! Almost every time I launch a new business partner, they almost instinctively announce to me that they have a BIG fish in mind that they want me to speak with. Inevitably this approach ends in tears, because although they might "know" the person, they aren't 'connected' to them well enough to have them want to listen. Of course, there are people that everyone in ...the room wants to talk tosuch as, the speaker at an event, the investor with deep pockets or, the extremely successful entrepreneur. But there are most likely many other people worth talking with as well, so take my advice don’t follow the herd and rush to the big names in the room. Instead, learn to circulate and discover people who are interesting, that you have a good rapport with, have useful information for you andimportantly, are fun to speak with! Eventually you will probably get a chance to talk with a ‘big fish’ or two, and you never know, that quiet unassuming guy in the cornermay just turn out to be a hidden gem. 07.01.2022 Wisdom & Habits Wednesday. The happiest people spend more time with friends and family. Fact - Not staying in touch with friends and family is one of the top five regrets of the dying. If you want more evidence that time with friends is beneficial for you, research proves it can make you happier right now, too. Social time is highly valuable when it comes to improving our happiness, even for introverts. Several studies have found that time spent with friends and family m...akes a big difference in how happy we feel. We are happy when we have family, we are happy when we have friends and almost all the other things that we think ‘make us happy’ are actually just ways of getting closer to more family and friends. 05.01.2022 Those Things Thursday. That ‘thing’ called INTENTION. When you first wake up, it’s easy to start thinking about all the stuff you have to get done that day or complain about how the neighbours or kids kept you up all night. Instead of letting your head go to those negative places, ask yourself three morning questions 1) What am I most excited about doing today? 2) Who can I encourage or serve today? 04.01.2022 Talking Business Tuesday. Public Speaking? Be prepared. Hey sure, it sounds obvious, but the first step to alleviating your fears is being prepared. This means knowing the material so well that you don’t have to think about it. It also means making sure all the logistics are set well in advance. You want to be relaxed and focused, not scrambling to get the audio working. Checklists are helpful to make sure you have all the details covered. If possible, arrange to do a dry ...run with all the audio-visual equipment ahead of time. Enlist one of your trusted friends to help you rehearse your presentation. They can help review your material, ask you tough follow-up questions, or act like an indifferent audience. If you can play out the toughest scenarios in advance, you won’t have any surprises when it’s show time. Rituals and routines can also help you get in the flow. 02.01.2022 Fired Up Friday. The Fired-Up Leader understands that confidence must come first. Successful people often exude confidenceit's obvious that they believe in themselves and what they're doing. It isn't their success that makes them confident, however. The confidence was there first. Think about it: Doubt breeds doubt. Why would anyone believe in you, your ideas or your abilities if you didn't believe in them yourself? It takes confidence to reach for new challenges. People ...who are fearful or insecure tend to stay within their comfort zones. But comfort zones rarely expand on their own. That's why people who lack confidence get stuck in dead-end jobs and let valuable opportunities pass them by. People who lack confidence often feel at the mercy of external circumstances. Successful people aren't deterred by obstacles, which is how they rise up in the first place. Confidence is a crucial building block in a successful career and embracing it fully will take you places you never thought possible. No one is stopping you from what you want to accomplish but yourself. It's time to remove any barriers created by self-doubt. Enjoy! #confidence #success See more
