Here are a few important tips from the Department of Health that will help our community keep COVID-safe ...If you have any symptoms of COVID-19 this Halloween, stay home and give trick-or-treating a miss this year. 07.01.2022 A City contractor is currently cleaning up a large amount of dead fish in Cape Burney along the Greenough River Reported last week, thousands of dead fish hav...e washed up in the area which is currently being investigated by the Department of Water and Environment Regulation (DWER). DWER are reminding people that contact with dead fish should be avoided and the Department of Health advises against eating or handling fish found in these circumstances. The City’s contractor is removing the dead fish which will then go to the FOGO waste stream at Meru Landfill. You can view DWER’s full statement here https://bit.ly/3gys5u7

06.01.2022 Anybody else admiring the beautiful white bird, wading in the ponds entrance to Cape Burney? This beauty is hard to get close to, very timid. This is what I suspect it is; Eastern Great Egret- Any idea's otherwise? One of Australia’s most elegant birds, the snowy-white Eastern Great Egret is often seen wading in a range of wetlands, from lakes, rivers and swamps to estuaries, saltmarsh and intertidal mudflats. They usually feed in shallow water, standing and waiting for fish..., frogs, insects and other small aquatic creatures to appear before stabbing them with its long, yellow bill. They also walk slowly through the water, on the lookout for prey. Large fish are eaten with difficulty, and are often snatched from the bill of the egret by raptors. more info https://birdlife.org.au/bird-profile/Eastern-Great-Egret
