24.01.2022 Water Play Adding green food colouring to the water in our riverbed this morning sparked excitement and curiosity amongst the children. The children worked together as a team to think of ways they could encourage the green water down the stream, to pool at the end in the dam they created. ... As they were engaged in their teamwork, the children worked liked 'chemists' as they poured, mixed, measured and swished the water down with a variety of different containers.

23.01.2022 Today we celebrated Miss Valentina's birthday. We hope you had an amazing day. Thank you for sharing it with us.

23.01.2022 Our Kindy and OSHC Educators spent today engaged in professional learning, preparing our environments ready for our 2021 cohort of children, and building connections as a team over a shared lunch. Miss Kym

23.01.2022 Noah’s Ark Thunder, Rain and Rainbows. Oh My! With all these blessed storms that are making our grass green and our jacarandas bloom, Kindy One took a moment to reflect and delve into the promise that God made to the world. ... Together as a class we listened to the story of Noah and his Ark and how he trusted and believed in God, even when people were being mean to him. After some discussion about how it can sometimes be hard to trust in a plan we can’t see but remembering that God and our families have the best in mind for us, we moved onto some fantastic activities! We recreated our own rainbows from the story, sequenced the animals from smallest to largest from our Noah’s Ark toy chest and worked in teams to create our very own ark! Although it can sometimes be hard work with our small hands, we try to do everything to our best ability just like God encouraged Noah to do when he built his Ark.

22.01.2022 Volcano Experiment In the sandpit Kindy 2 conducted an experiment that represented a volcano exploding. This experience allowed the children to develop new knowledge and vocabulary such as science experiment, ingredients, reaction and magma, along with making predictions and explaining their thinking.... The children were active participants in this hands on experience as they assisted with measuring the vinegar and bi carb soda, then pouring it into the volcano mouth to create the chemical reaction. Upon completion, Miss Kayla and Kindy 2 had a group discussion where the children were able to ask for clarification or pose new questions regarding volcanos to consolidate their thinking.

22.01.2022 Butterfly Patterns The Kindy children have been waiting and watching the butterfly chrysalis for the butterfly to emerge. They have been making predictions about what type and colour butterfly will come out. It was a great surprise to find the butterfly had arrived. They were excited to be able to discuss what it looked like to confirm some of our predictions. As we investigated the type of butterfly, we talked about how the butterfly wings have a pattern on them. We talke...d about what the same and different words meant during our talks. We researched and looked at different butterfly patterns. We found and listened to a story about patterns called Pattern Fish. This helped us understand what are patterns. We extended our learning discussing how patterns are in the environment and not just on butterfly’s. We looked at some pattern games on the online tv and then used the game to learn about how to identify and complete patterns. The children then were able to access a pattern game, paint themselves a butterfly painting or continue to learn about making patterns using the coloured blocks on the mat.

13.01.2022 Making An Igloo During morning session, children were playing in the sandpit. One of the children said to a teacher that they had made a castle "It has a flat top and looks like an igloo." As an extension of interest, Miss Amanda showed the children a drawing of an igloo inside, we made a list of words we know about an Igloo and where an Igloo is from. The children helped Miss Mia to draw some animals to add to the Igloo poster and trace some of the words we added to the boar...d. From there, we watched an online video of an Eskimo building an Igloo. We used some ice cubes from the freezer to show the children how they could build an igloo house. This was offered on a table outside for the children to explore. Afterwards, the children added some animals to make an ice house for them.

13.01.2022 Weather Experiments Recently with all of the storms and rain, we have been very fascinated with the weather and how it occurs. Some of our friends have been questioning and getting curious about how and where different types of weather come from. ... We got together some experiments that reflect how weather like rain and clouds form to fuel their curiosity into this brand-new science inquiry. For the first experiment, it was demonstrated with cotton wool and two containers how clouds can soak up lots and lots of water and when they get really full, water drops will start to fall through the cotton wool or ‘clouds’ and soak the ground beneath it. Our other experiment was a simplified version of condensation and evaporation that used warm water, hairspray and ice. When all three interacted together within the jar, clouds started to form within just like they do in our sky. After we all had a turn playing around with the weather experiments, we reflected on our investigation and worked on applying our new knowledge to our world.

08.01.2022 Outdoor Classroom Day We participated in Outdoor Classroom day this week. It enables us to be able to deliver our curriculum with the children’s interests whilst outdoors. A great example of our learning, is when a child found some sticks outside and noticed that they were different. They said that one stick was bigger than the other. Extending on the child’s interest in measurement, the children collected sticks from the garden to measure inside the classroom.... We discussed the arrangement of the sticks from biggest to smallest and looked at a ruler beside the sticks to gauge the different lengths. We used the sticks to make a visual poster for the children to compare and predict in what order they would go.
