21.01.2022 #medicinemaking Calendula (Pot Marigold) is a very popular herb used in baby products and rash creams. Calendula has wound healing, anti-inflammatory , antibacterial and antimicrobial properties, making it an excellent choice for rashes, dry skin and mild dermatitis. I make my calendula oil by filling an air tight glass jar with organic calendula flowers ( you can purchase these from any health food store or online). ... Then I fill the jar will the oils I have on hand. For babies, I like to use almond oil and jojoba, I added a bit of olive oil and coconut oil to this batch because I needed a few litres of oil to cover all the flowers. Make sure to use enough oil to cover the calendula by a good few centimetres. Seal the container and leave it in a sunny spot in your kitchen for 4-6 weeks. Shake or stir the mixture every few days. Strain the mixture with a cheese cloth and store it in a cool dark place. Enjoy!

20.01.2022 Fish oil is one of my favourite tools to use for pain and inflammation. Period pain, joint pain and inflammatory bowel diseases can improve with the regular use of fish oil. Studies have shown the omega 3 fatty acids to be in some cases equally as effective as non-steroidal anti-inflammatory’s (think asprin and ibuprofen). Our diets tend to be much higher in omega 6 rather than an equal ideal 1:1 ratio of omega 3 and 6. Supplementation along side a omega 3 rich diet may help ...to improve your pain symptoms and lessen your need for drug intervention. *always choose a brand that uses smaller fish like pollock rather than tuna (larger fish tend to contain higher levels of heavy metals). Look for thorough heavy metal testing standards and if you pop open a capsule it should have almost no odour, if it smells foul then it’s rancid. *enteric coated capsules are useful for those that suffer with reflux : Unknown

19.01.2022 My current reading material. This book delves into the forgotten art of nourishing the mother, highlighting the traditional importance of rest, recovery and postpartum rituals. This is a MUST read for any new mum or future mum. Stay clear of the pressures of bouncing back, of returning to your pre-baby energy, body and work ethic. Use the 4th trimester to connect with your baby, recover, heal and transition into your new role. ... @thefirstfortydays

18.01.2022 It’s crazy how the little things count. I feel so much more nourished when I eat from a bowl rather than a plate at dinner time. Am I the only one? Tonight we ate a warm bowl of black beans with spinach, some roast vegetables, rice and avocado + savoury yeast #simpleandsatisfying

18.01.2022 What is the best way to cook your vegetables? The best way to cook your vegetables is the way you enjoy eating them! Though, some methods have shown to preserve more nutrients, you won’t create a lasting habit with something you don’t enjoy. I love my vegetables roasted, I know I will eat a lot more and enjoy every bite. What is your favourite way to get more vegetables in?

17.01.2022 Fatigue affects most mothers through the transitional phase that is postpartum. An interesting clinical trial found that at home Pilates actually reduced the severity of the fatigue in the participating mothers. Physical and mental fatigue lessened as well at noticeable improvements in motivation and stamina. Pilates is something I have incorporated into my postpartum recovery journey, it’s a low-impact, deep muscle conditioning exercise style that are excellent for improving stability and flexibility. I use the @melissawoodhealth app and I absolutely love it! PMID 25820838

06.01.2022 Though I very slowly introduced weights into my exercise routine a few months after having a baby it was still too depleting.I felt extremely sore, exhausted and weak after a short workout. Now, 7 months postpartum I have introduced regular walks, pilates and stretching into my daily routine & I feel 1000x better! If you experience a chronic sore throat, chronic inflamed or sore lymph nodes, cold or flu like symptoms after a workout or severe or prolonged delayed onset muscle soreness you may want to consider taking things down a notch. Listen to your body
