24.01.2022 I remember practising with Swami Saraswati on TV, when I was a very young kid with my Mum. As a yoga teacher myself now I often recall to my students, the times I did yoga on tv with her, practising various postures and breathing exercises. She was one of my original inspirations

19.01.2022 Another wonderful morning workshop practicing our yoga and meditation! Today we did our Activation (to warm up and activate the energy flows in our bodies), followed by our EBR (energy block release sequence) story and Guided Relaxation (including a special visualisation) on the yoga deck as usual, accompanied by Bessie the super Yoga Dog! We had some chillin’ and chattin’ in the hammock with Bessie too, just catching up and recalling the school holidays and what we did. We... then walked to Opossum Creek for the second part of our workshop, where we chatted about worries and how we can manage our fears. We chatted about how being out in nature can help us to let go of them, so the trees and the rocks can absorb all the negative or worrisome thoughts. Then we can fill ourselves with all of the transformed positive thoughts that help us feel calm and peaceful and we can take them deep, deep into our bodies and minds to make us feel strong and full of courage. We bravely scrambled up and down the rocks until we got to the ones where we wanted to do our sitting concentration practices. We had lots of fun exploring how long we could sit in silence simply listening to the sounds of nature all around us, then learning how to focus on specific things like listening to the singing and sounds of the birds around us in the bush. We tried a few positions for these practices ie lying and sitting. We also did a sitting practice where we closed our eyes to focus on the sense of smell. We noticed the smell of the eucalyptus leaves. Zubin also showed his skill at balancing on the tricky rocks in the tree pose, surrounded by trees and breathing in the prana or life force around us. On the walk back we focussed on our footsteps and counted them as we walked for a while. All these practices are mindfulness practices which help to calm the playful ‘puppy’ mind that keeps wanting to skip from thought to thought. Then finally, we came back to the house to share some snacks and to explore the sensation of taste! We finished with some playful fun on my two pianos and then some more Bessie love in the hammock again to relax and complete our full and happy morning! See more

13.01.2022 Yoga and meditation practices can be really great for kids too! It teaches them the skills they need to cope with life’s every day challenges. It strengthens their bodies and minds and helps them regulate their emotions too. This is my youngest shining star yogi! In the school holidays we had a full morning workshop where we worked on so many fun and beneficial things: cross patterning for balancing body, brain, mind and emotions, physical postures (asanas) for strengthe...ning and balancing the body and the chakra system, breathwork (pranayama) with bubble and belly breathing - great practices to help support the important work of the parasympathetic nervous system, we did a guided Relaxation to really soothe and nourish body, mind and emotions, (including a very special visualisation and accompanied by Bessie the yoga therapy dog who joined in with this too - so cute ) We practised our mindfulness with our footprints activity for Walk for Peace project - an initiative of the World Peace Flame organisation. https://www.worldpeaceflame.co.uk//world-peace-walk-proje/. We also just chilled and chatted on the hammock and talked about how when we feel sad or worried it can help us to move our body or do some deep breathing exercises. We really had a fantastic morning!! See more

10.01.2022 Another wonderful Saturday morning workshop for my youngest yogi, covering lots of yoga asanas, mindfulness/meditation techniques, relaxation with visualisation and breath work practices. We started with our usual fun warmups/activations to stimulate the body energy systems and proprioceptors to really come into our bodies and start noticing them, followed by an Energy Block Release Sequence to help the body release physical, mental and emotional tension that we can accumulat...e, then we used a game called Yoga Dice to choose 4 postures to work. We practiced extended Puppy dog pose, knee to chest pose, legs up the wall pose, the lord of the dance, and tree - the last two at the creek on wobbly, uneven rocky surfaces a challenge taken on and overcome! Physical yoga asanas help to strengthen and tone muscles, improve balance and control and bring the body and mind together. In our legs-up-the-wall pose on the back deck, we practiced our ‘Om breathing’ which lengthens the out breath and helps to calm the nervous system. We were so relaxed after that practice. Using a lavender filled eye pillow and a precious stone during a guided rainbow visualisation helped to switch on the relaxation response. We also did a great food meditation, focussing on the different sensations, tastes, feelings associated with eating! While at the local creek we practised our silent sitting and we smashed our record and kept silent for 9.5 minutes before I accidentally broke the silence! During this silent sitting time we watch, listen and use our senses to experience the bush setting around us. On the way back we practiced our walking/breathing practice to build up to a more specific pranayama practice- this is a long term exercise we are working on. And lastly, we did another concentration practice, closely observing some dried leaves and then modeling them out of air drying clay. As well as using strong observational and focussing skills, this activity also required using fine motor skills to make the leaf veins without accidentally cutting through the leaf! Finally, we finished with a chill ‘n’ chat in the hammock while rocking and chatting about school and other general stuff - and we also discussed how we can practice our belly breathing when we feel nervous, scared, worried, unsure etc. We sure do cover a lot in these morning workshops but it is always a very relaxed and enjoyable morning that brings a sense of contentment and ease See more

09.01.2022 One of my favourite quotes As they say... its the journey eh?

07.01.2022 I had an excellent comment from one of my yogi participants today and it got me thinking..... It was loosely about the eternal question about beginners versus more challenging or more advancedyoga. What makes a yoga practise more advanced? Is it the ability to do more physically challenging poses? Is it the ability access the other layers of our being that are not just about the physical body? I found that this article had a few good points... As an experienced yog...i, you can go into any class and make it as challenging as you want by tuning into your body on a deep internal level and working on the minute details of each pose. But if you talk to anyone whos been at this for more than a few years, theyll tell you that acrobatic poses are not the point. The most advanced practices can be almost post-asana. Yoga is all about freeing yourself from attachments that bring you down. This very much includes attachments to yoga poses themselves. (Excepts from the article by Ann Pizer) https://www.verywellfit.com/advanced-yoga-4014053

07.01.2022 Some nice restorative modifications for what can be a challenging posture for some people

06.01.2022 As we approach the New Year take some time to consider how you might like to step into 2021. What and who do you want to become in the next 12 months? This all important new start is an ideal opportunity to make some transformational changes. Step into 2021 with confidence and power!

02.01.2022 More mindful yoga moves and meditation with this morning’s session with Master Z and Bessie the Yoga Wonder Dog! We practiced our activations, energy block release sequence, relaxation with visualisation, postures/sequence/ breathing (pranayama) which Master Z chose from a yoga card deck. We then had morning tea and practiced a ‘senses’ concentration exercise, including a special chocolate meditation which was sooooo good, and then we walked down to the local creek for so...me quiet sitting and observation practices. Master Z and I managed to almost double our silent sitting time before I accidentally spoke! Bessie the yoga dog enjoyed every moment of it too, especially the accidental dunk in the creek, which was very funny! Master Z is also really coming ahead in leaps and bounds with his rock climbing and managing his worries, and I’m super proud of him! Keep up the good work Mstr Z! See more
