24.01.2022 'making room' zoning changes, 'rightsizing' and 'missing middle' - all terms that are about creating more choice in housing to lead to better ways of meeting people's housing needs at whatever stage of life they're at.

14.01.2022 'The latest National Waste Report was released this month, and the data shows a worrying trend for the property sector. Construction and demolition (C&D) waste ...outweighed municipal waste and organics and came in equal with commercial and industrial waste... There is a need for the right regulatory settings to make developers and builders responsible for the materials in a building at the end of its life, and for extended producer responsibility for each item and material.' In light of the move towards eliminated plastic single use products in South Australia, we should also stress the need for the local building industry to also do their part and utilise the great resource recovery providers in SA. 12.01.2022 One of the nicest aspects of living in Aldinga ArtsEcovillage is it’s diverse environment. We have 50% shared space and bylaws that have helped re-establish endemic native bushland so that local fauna is supported. Cats must be kept in a cat run and dogs on a lead. Consequently we enjoy a chorus of birdsong and observe blue tongue lizards and our local brown snakes in their natural habitat.

12.01.2022 Definitely worth a visit

11.01.2022 3br. architect-designed passive solar eco-house for sale in Aldinga Arts Eco Village. Set on a gentle slope at the periphery of the village, overlooking the Willunga Creek reserve. Constructed in 2009/10 of hebel panel construction with curved colorbond roofs, polished concrete floors and cedar windows, it is a striking home with top-quality fit-out throughout. As you enter, the wide hallway gives access to two large bedrooms each with built-in cupboards and one with large p...icture windows. The hallway continues down wide timber steps, opening out to the expansive living/dining/kitchen area. This stunning space features an arched ceiling and a wall of north facing windows giving panoramic views of the wooded slopes of the reserve. The end wall is clad in Travertine marble blocks, the spacious kitchen features black granite bench-tops with a large island bench, Miele and Blanco appliances, and highest quality walnut- veneer joinery. Sets of cedar sliding doors open from the central living space to the north-facing deck, a southern courtyard, and a further enclosed courtyard to the east planted with a range of citrus trees. The spacious main bedroom adjoins the living space, and it also enjoys an outlook to the reserve. A unique feature is a walk-through wardrobe concealed behind a high walnut-veneer headboard. Also accessed from the living area is the toilet with its own vanity, and through the laundry the spacious bathroom with large shower alcove, wide vanity unit and large free-standing bath. Again, the fittings are of the highest quality. Floors throughout the home are concrete with a multi-coloured aggregate, highly polished to give a terrazzo effect. The window frames are western red cedar with cellular blinds, most rooms additionally having louvre windows. The passive solar design of the house means the north facing living area absorbs solar radiation even on relatively cool days, staying warm for most of the day and evening without additional heating. Also, the high levels of insulation, coupled with adjustment of ventilation with the louvres, keeps the house cool in summer. However, there is a split-system reverse cycle A/C for times of extreme heat or cold. Other features include 1.5kW solar electricity, solar hot-water, and 22,000 litre rainwater tank, car-port with rainwater tank, and a good-sized shed with power. There are established gardens with a mix of native and exotic plants, five raised beds for vegetables, and fruit trees including peach, nectarine, fig, apple, grapefruit, lemon, mandarin and cumquat. It’s an easy walk to the Aldinga township, and to Port Willunga beach via the Willunga Creek linear park. Adelaide is only 45 minutes by car, an hour by public transport. This is a beautiful house in a stunning area. Close to nature but within easy reach of all facilities. Offers between $580,000 600,000 considered. Julie 0403 822 946 [email protected]

07.01.2022 repeated spontaneous contact is the key to adult friendships. The local neighbourhood and being able to leave the car at home, walk, come across people rather than have to plan ahead. We just need to design our housing and our suburbs to make it easier to do this.

04.01.2022 'The biggest hurdle I find is to get people to realise that a standard 6-Star project home costs as much upfront as [my sustainable home] does, but twice as mu...ch to run from then on. Communicating this to clients is especially challenging, she finds, when people are still given misleading information about what it costs to improve building performance.' Great piece from Sanctuary Magazine addressing that the cost of building sustainably isn't that much of a premium. Also includes a perspective from Goodhouse, on of the companies in our #ASBNGreenBook. https://renew.org.au//price-is-right-is-the-market-finall/ Adelaide Sustainability Centre Sustainable Home Hub With Helen Edwards Adelaide Sustainability Connect Green Building Institute

01.01.2022 Thanks @bankaust for backing our #victoria street #collective @ Westwyck and our little #melbourne #baugruppe model. It’s been great dealing with such a progressive bank

01.01.2022 Some of my friends will know by now that last year, I became one of the directors of a new non-profit company, ‘Eco Villages Australia’. We have been looking fo...r a place for the eco village for over a year and on Monday we bought a block in Maleny! Here is a photo of me with Andrew and Simon at the top of the property. It’s very overgrown but I can see the potential! It’s north-facing with a spring-fed dam, sloped areas, flat areas and just 800m walk to the town centre across the Showgrounds and along the Obi Obi Creek boardwalk. I can see that this will be a beautiful place for community life well into the future. Thanks to everyone who has supported our vision to this point. We will need all hands on deck to get the eco village up and running over time. See more
