21.01.2022 A bit of information about Humpback Whale behaviour

18.01.2022 Great story in Pittwater Life about our whale research and co-partnership with LJ Hooker Palm Beach. The article titled 'Living Ocean Riding a Wave of Innovation Success' is on pages 20-21. Digital link below. We always think about how astounding it is, that we live on a planet with these extraordinary animals. We are so proud to have access to understand their behavior and share the knowledge of what we find with others.

04.01.2022 Not every day you get to see bluefin tuna (from Les Gallagher) jumping around like dolphins! That was followed by a very large group of bottlenose dolphins fini...shing off the bait-balls that the tuna left behind! We ended with a sighting of some double-crested cormorants on top of Monte da Guia. See more

02.01.2022 "When whales were at their historic populations, before their numbers were reduced, it seems that whales might have been responsible for removing tens of millions of tonnes of carbon from the atmosphere every year."

02.01.2022 Take a look at this truly wonderful and weird looking little guy, the red handfish. He's just been released into our Tassie waters, along with 41 others after b...eing hatched and raised from eggs by the Institute for Marine and Antarctic Studies - IMAS and CSIRO. Here's the thing though: those 42 handfish nearly double the known Hobart population out there and that's a shocking figure to contemplate. Handfish are now the most threatened fish in the world and earlier this year the smooth handfish was the first marine bony fish to be declared extinct. Sadly, this is all happening right here in Tasmania. They face the threat of increasing habitat destruction, warming waters, pollution, death as bycatch, invasive urchin barrens, and expansion of fish farms. I'm keeping all of my fingers crossed for these little ones in their fight for survival out there in waters off Hobart. Congratulations on this amazing work to everyone involved and the Handfish Conservation Project! credit Jemima Stuart-Smith, I
