17.01.2022 So today we start our journey home....never thought Adelaide or Brisbane was on the itinerary....we had breaky at the Watertank Cafe....kwirky industrial Cafe....then filled the rest of the day at the Desert Parks Park....(desert zoo) it was ok....all the things we've seen on our travels....now off on our first leg home....looking forward to home
16.01.2022 For anyone wanting an offroad van....ours is the best ever....we thought it did great getting into Chambers Pillar and everywhere else we took it on this trip....BEST BIT it survived a tow truck driver coming out ....OMG what a ride....(finally the pot plant I sit on the bench moved......any wonder why!!l GT can't move it lol our joke
16.01.2022 And sunset ...sorry had a few drinks...
16.01.2022 Yulara to Rainbow Valley We made the decision ... not knowing the road and how long it would take us to get into Rainbow Valley... to go past Henbury Meteorites and backtrack tomorrow on our way to Chambers Pillar. Aim was to be at Rainbow Valley for Sunset and Sunrise..... 22kms off the Stuart Highway of dirt a little corrugated but great and didn't let tyres down for the short journey.... as it was we were there at 1.30... (plenty of time)... After lunch we walked to Mushroom Rock... an amazing rock carved away and the most amazing patterns in the rock.... this rock was on the end/back of the main Rainbow Valley centrepiece....amazingly only very narrow.... After walking the Mushroom Rock walk....we continued onto the Claypan walk.....the patterns on the claypan looked like pattern pave so uniform !!! Would be amazing to see water and reflections in front of the rock!!! The flies were truly crazy so into the van for a few drinks to wait for sunset.....not a cloud in the sky today.... at 5.30pm we took our chairs to one of the lookout platforms I liked the view from and Graham put up the drone....omg what a view! A few people came from Alice for sunset and left ....only 1 other camper stayed..... what a magical sunset....Again!!!! Back to camp for a FIRE!!! About 13 days since our own fire!!!! And with the trillions of stars from horizon to horizon it was a magical night!!! GT got some amazing milky way shots on the DSLR and curried sausages warmed our bellies (from the freezer heated in the microwave ) loving the ability to reheat meals I prepared at home in the microwave while off grid!!! Couldn't have asked for a more perfect night! (I typed this at 12am this morning lol)
12.01.2022 The photo was worth it right lol
11.01.2022 Wow lucky we had a big breaky yesterday.....cause apart from 2 x cheese and crackers(1 each flight) that's it.....and finally got a coffee at the ONLY place open at the airport now!!!! We had about 20 mins in Adelaide and had to stand in a square.....get to Bne 10.10pm all kitchens hotel and food delivery closed..... GT went for a smoke and to see maybe if the Pullman next door was open or had food....was met by Police.....its a Covid quarantine hotel.....last time I used Qantas you actually got a meal when you travelled at meal times..... all shops in Alice Springs airport are completely gutted....... lucky we are on qantas not jetstar could check our bags in (before the hour before flight) and get to the coffee upstairs..... IT'S HOME DAY
10.01.2022 Car and coffee all is good
08.01.2022 We both feel absolutely sick..... car and van will be returned via car carrier....we are flying Alice to Adelaide to Brisbane to Mackay tomorrow.... arriving 9.30 Saturday on Hayden's birthday xx no hire cars cross borders with covid!!!!!!
06.01.2022 We watched camels from our hill today
06.01.2022 Rainbow Valley to Chambers Pillar (backtracking to Henbury Meteorites) We had decided to leave the diesel heater off and windows open to listen for dingos howling as so many footprints around .... one of the things we haven't yet heard .... we were woken up as the moon rose and shone in on our head lol and to our amazement the sky was clouded over!! (1.15am) We woke up 6.15am and colour was forming already with the clouds...so up and out to capture what today's sunrise would ...produce!!!! Every day a different masterpiece of natures colour pallet....WOW it was spitting with rain.....rainbows....the rock glowed the sky glowed and then then spits got heavier ....and the the clouds took over....omg another lucky sunrise....we packed up and left....gotta love our van.... After making it back to the highway we turned south again....fuelled up at Stuarts Well ...they had a camel ...emus and ducks so I played while GT filled up...check out my video lol the ending.... About 40kms south we turned right .... back towards Kings Canyon on the Ernest Giles dirt road for 15 km to Henbury Meteorite site....a short 1.5km walk around the Meteorite craters....very interesting....clouds still thick but gradually blowing away with the gail force winds (not cold just strong) So back on the highway heading north we turned right onto the Hugh River Stock Track to Maryvale ....approx 70 km of yes Track....we stopped and let our tyres down..... we started at 11.20am and after the 70km of that track we turned south onto the old Ghan road for another 30 odd km and arrived at 1.55pm in Maryvale or the community which we probably shouldn't have been in but missed the chambers pillar sign....I got out and asked the guy driving the ambulance van directions ...he was really helpful even followed us to make sure we found it.... I think he wasn't the ambo lol SO.....we start the 44kms into Chambers pillar....GT already had had enough of dirt track concentration with our full size offroad van on behind..... when I mentioned sand hills (my memory from 25 years ago) he definitely had that worried look .... Several times ... the words ...this is ridiculous bringing this van in here ....were mentioned... and we arrived 3.30ish... 1.5hrs to do the 44 kms.... very cloudy and blowing a gale....sunset???? We past the ranger on top of a mountain....he probably thought ...WTF.... Anyway ... we did the Castle Rock walk.....then had a drink and lunch (5pm) then Chambers pillar....and sunset.....wasn't spectacular but was pretty amazing knowing we were alone in the middle of Australia and our last night before starting our week long trek home was this amazing.....WOW what an adventure of a day....and then laying in bed the milky way and stars out brightly....who knows what sunrise will bring.... no diesel heater required tonight...had fan on
02.01.2022 We went out to the airport today to check we had all border passes etc and wow so many planes in storage...mainly Singapore and Scoot.....went to the John Flynn Memorial and then packed our van and car for transport....
