12.01.2022 The Australian theme for this year’s World AIDS Day is ‘Now more than ever'. To mark the event, NAPWHA asked a wide range of community advocates and the leader...s of our member organisations and partners in the response to reflect on what the theme means to them. These short but immensley powerful quotes not only illustrate how far we have come, they also pose a strong call to action for the future of the HIV sector and our hopes for all people living with HIV in Australia.

08.01.2022 This year, the Australian theme for World Aids Day is ‘Now More Than Ever’ and is one that Christabel Millar, President of Living Positive Victoria, explained is particularly pertinent in light of 2020. For me this theme describes the consistent need to renew and recapture focus on this day each year. We need to close in on access to health care and improved wellbeing outcomes. But because a sense of freedom has been achieved for some of the more fortunate members of our com...munity, I think this can signal to our supporters that they can take their foot of the pedal. But this could not be further from the truth, particularly in light of 2020 when we have all been reminded of how quickly we can lose our rights once we are perceived to be infected with a virus. The theme for this year Now More Than Ever is about how, now more than ever we have to double down on the knowledge we have as a community, we are not living through our first pandemic. 08.01.2022 Adam Ehm, President of Living Positive Victoria reports, The COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted many health inequities in society, with many people left unemployed, education impacted across the board, healthcare and aged care settings tested, along with severe impacts on peoples’ mental health, increasing rates of family violence, and alcohol and drug use. More than ever before, our organisation has needed to pivot to support a diverse range of individuals living with and affected by HIV. Get an update from our organisation by listening to our President and the rest of the team in our 2019/20 Annual Report:

05.01.2022 'Overseas residents who are living with HIV, in Australia on a temporary visa and ineligible for Medicare, will gain access to HIV treatment and care thanks to new arrangements that Minister for Health, Greg Hunt, has agreed will be in place in 2021. This is great news for this highly vulnerable group, says Scott Harlum, President of the National Association of People With HIV Australia (NAPWHA). They will no longer have to rely on personal importation, drug trials or compassionate access arrangements to maintain their health. We commend Minster Hunt for his willingness to resolve this issue, and for his commitment to implementing arrangements for which NAPWHA and others have lobbied hard for more than 20 years.'

04.01.2022 In this month’s issue of DNA Magazine Australia, they met with meet three HIV-positive men and asked them to share stories about living with HIV and the kinds of stigma and prejudices they experience. When DNA asked Steve Spencer, a 28-year-old writer and HIV activist, on how can we all be better allies to HIV+ folks. Steve says we should listen, learn and educate: Good allies listen, learn and, once they’re confident enough with that information, use it to educate and suppo...rt others. People are very receptive to learn new information about HIV. Their faces light up when you tell them how incredible U=U is and they’re genuinely thankful to be taught about it. It’s heartening to see negative people show support and love for positive people, he says. Here's an excerpt from the full article:
