18.01.2022 UPDATE 1600hrs: The WATCH AND ACT has been cancelled, It has been downgraded to advice. ***** BUSHFIRE - ADVICE - GUNN POINT ROAD... LOCATION: Gunn Point Road and Bronzewing Avenue, Howard Springs ALERT LEVEL: Advice. A fire is in the area. There is no immediate danger. Monitor the situation for changes. FIRE TYPE: Bushfire. STATUS: The fire is at a stage where firefighting resources are only required for patrol purposes and major re-ignition is unlikely. CURRENT SITUATION: Firefighting crews have extinguished the fire. The watch and act is no longer in place. RISKS FACED BY PEOPLE IN THE AREA: Smoke from this fire may affect visibility. ADVICE TO THE PUBLIC: Fire crews have made the area safe. If smoke is affecting roads, drivers in the area are urged to slow down, turn on headlights and drive safely for the conditions. For further information regarding bushfires, visit https://securent.nt.gov.au/alerts or https://www.facebook.com/NTPFES If a fire is threatening life or property, call 000 immediately. There is still a risk of the fire reigniting so the watch and act remains in place. Fire crews will be conducting operations and monitoring the location throughout the afternoon. Gunn Point Road is closed and is expected to be closed for another hour. Obey directions of emergency personnel in the area. ***** BUSHFIRE - WATCH AND ACT - GUNN POINT ROAD LOCATION: Gunn Point Road Bronzewing Avenue. ALERT LEVEL: Watch and Act. There is a heightened level of threat. Conditions are changing. Start taking action now to protect your family and your property. FIRE TYPE: Bushfire. STATUS: Going. A fire which is spreading on one or more fronts. NTFRS crews are working to contain the fire. CURRENT SITUATION: NTFRS crews are working to contain the fire to Gunn Point Road and prevent it from reaching Bronzewing Avenue. Due to the current weather conditions, there is a possibility the fire may jump from Gunn Point Road and reach Bronzewing Avenue. Fire fighters will be working on the roadside in this area. Heavy smoke and flames may impact the area. Please avoid the area at this time. RISKS FACED BY PEOPLE IN THE AREA: Smoke from this fire may affect visibility. Active fire may occur close to the roadside. Firefighting crews may be working close to the roadside. ADVICE TO THE PUBLIC: For the safety of firefighting crews and other vehicles, drivers in the area are urged to slow down, turn on headlights and drive safely for the conditions. There will be aerial water bombing activities occurring in the area. Please take shelter and do not go outside if in the affected areas. Residents are encouraged to refer to their bushfire management plans.
