This is the original artwork from Nicole GRIMM-HEWITT @grimmhewitt_artist Artist living in Bermagui, New South Wales, Australia Title: ‘ Love is in the Air ‘... Size: w 27cm x H 28cm (framed in white timber w45cm x H 46cm) | Medium: pencil on Bristol Paper Willow is a little Koala from Symbio Wildlife Park in Helensburgh, NSW, Australia. She was born in Symbio and is one of several koalas living in the Park. Bushfires, drought and loss of habitat have put koalas on the endangered species list. Up to 25% of the koala population was impacted by the 2020 East Coast bushfires. It’s a slow and sensitive process, but hopefully with the rescue, rehabilitation and release of this unique animal into re-established and protected areas, the species will recover. 22.01.2022 100 ARTWORKS FOR A KOALA. This is the original acrlic painting from Julie-Anne Gatehouse - artist based in Brisbane , Queensland, Australia. Title:: ‘Koala with a native Australia wild flower crown ’ (featuring Pink Heath, Sturt’s Desert Rose, Tasmanian Blue Gum and Royal Bluebell (the state floral emblems of Victoria, ACT, NT and Tasmania). Size: W 40.6 cm x H 50.8 cm (16 x 20) | Medium: acrylic paint on canvas panel Although koalas are not classed as endangered they are ...protected by law as their habitat is under threat. Nearly 80% of their habitat has been lost to land clearing, drought and bushfires. Urgent action is required as it is believed they could be extinct in New South Wales by 2050. To think that the beautiful koalas who are so synonymous with Australia, could soon become extinct, is a heartbreaking prospect. It’s an honour to be able to take part in this project helping to raise awareness for, and conserve, this beautiful species. My portrait ‘Who will hug the trees now..?’ is based on a photo I took during a recent visit to Perth Zoo, and depicts a koala in the pose they are most known for, hugging a tree whilst being embraced by its eucalyptus leaves, which serve as both its home and only food source. ‘ Jess Kerr www.jesskerrartist.com #livingwithkoalas #jesskerr #jesskerreartist #sperthartist #acrylicart #acrylicpaints #conservation #artforconservation #koalaconservation #koalaart If you are a participating artist in the 100 Artworks for a Koala project with an original ready please contact G Henshaw - [email protected] for delivery details. So dear to my heart they brought me hours of joy a...nd an ever-evolving appreciation of all animals, especially wildlife. This artwork was based on a photo that I snapped at Taronga zoo. I was lucky to witness the mother koala cradling her baby and keeping it safe. But who knows how safe Australia’s koalas will be in the future, now that they are losing their lives in more intense and frequent fires caused by human-induced climate change as well as urban sprawl and deforestation. I hope the fires of 2019/20 are a massive wake-up call to change our relationship with nature and give koalas and all wildlife the deepest respect and space they need to survive and thrive. The haunting images of the fires of 2019 in Australia have etched their mark into my heart. Without even watching or listening to the news I could feel the pain and hear the cries of all the fire consumed... the devastation still breaks my heart and even more so when I see that, even in the aftermath of this destruction, man still goes and clears more trees. Where is all our precious unique wildlife to live? That is the question that cries for an answer. The koala is a tourist icon, but little is truly done to help their survival. They were killed for their fur not all that long ago, their homes are now highways and concrete jungles and then came the fire. This was no ordinary fire, it raged all across this vast continent and so many animals lost their lives When you look into the eyes of another you understand that they are also divine, they are part of creation and they breathe and love like you. And announce two more art initiatives. This signed original entry for the 100 artworks for a koala is is by Madelaine BUTTINI @maddbutt Internationally recognised contemporary collage artist based in Brisbane, Queensland Australia She aspires to bring a moment of happiness and hope from her artwork... Title: ‘ Save the Koal...a ‘ Size: W 60cm x H 60cm | Medium: digital collage I grew up going to koala sanctuaries such as Lone Pine and Currumbin [both in Queensland, Australia], I love them! Some of my best childhood memories is seeing koalas in their natural habitat. On the Sunshine Coast I would always look in the trees to see if I could spot any which is wild to think because I never see them anymore. Loving these animals as a child and seeing them as an adult on the news being killed because of our global warming problem was horrific. Before the fires, I knew that their habitat was being destroyed at a rate faster than what was being reported. In the Summer of 2019 after watching the devastating fires on the news in Australia, I created this artwork. I wanted to bring awareness to koalas and their habitat being destroyed. If we lose koala’s we lose a vital part of our already delicate ecosystem. Our tourism market relies heavily on koala’s, you see them in gift shops as toys and people taking photographs with them, yet they are discarded by our government for land profits. The koala is not something which we can exploit. Save the koala and their habitat! 03.01.2022 100 ARTWORKS FOR A KOALA. This is the one of two wonderful watercolours from Sandi LEAR - award-winning watercolour fine artist based in New South Wales, Australia https:// @artistsandilear Soulful, atmospheric, moody, ethereal, Sandi’s style is full of movement, capturing her subject with light and colour. Title artwork 1 Meliora... W 76 cm x H 56 cm | Watercolour on full sheet deckle edge on Arches 300 gsm. Endangered, homeless, our koalas are desperately trying to recover. Braving the elements, ravages of man and fire, the does come down from the canopy with their joeys, searching for sustenance, water and a new home. They will not find it without mankind’s help. We could do well to learn from the perseverance of these most precious Australians, navigating their way through an every changing environment, their tenacity, bravery in defence of their young and their boundaries, learning the balance of life, precarious as it may be at times. They exemplify dedication in their fight for survival, as they courageously make their way toward a better life, a brighter future. www.sandilear.com #livingwithkoalas #sanidlear #artistsadilear #watercolourartist #australianartist #conservation #artforconservation #koalaconservation #eucalyptus #watercolour If you are a participating artist in the 100 Artworks for a Koala project with an original ready please contact G Henshaw - [email protected] for delivery details. 02.01.2022 100 ARTWORKS FOR A KOALA This is the original artwork from Rose WATSON Multi-disciplinary artist based in the Tweed/Byron region, New South Wales, Australia @rose_watson_artist Title:‘Hope ‘|Size:w63cmxH47cm |Medium:oilonlinen... ‘This is Hope! She represents coming out of the dark past and shining a light on the plight to save our koalas. Hope is a reflection of the expectation and desire to save this iconic Australian marsupial. When there is a bushfire Koalas cannot escape danger easily like other animals as they spend up to 18 hours a day sleeping in eucalyptus trees. Due to illegal fur trading, deforestation, bush fires, wild dogs and other environmental factors such as traffic, the population in Australia has greatly diminished. Over the past 30 years I have planted trees, protested to the Australian Parliament and fronted committees in an attempt to educate and bring forth positive change at all levels. Currently koalas are vulnerable to extinction in the wild within the next 30 years. It is my wish that all animals will have the opportunity to live without threat or disease and that ‘Hope’ will guide everyone to understand the critical need to protect all wildlife and their forest habitats. With all the advances in human society and technology life seems to move so fast, but what will we leave in our wake? The ...bushfires of 2019 to 2020 were of a degree Australia has never seen, the impact on our native flora and fauna, immeasurable. Koalas, insects, countless plant species, there are too many to count. With so much focus on ourselves, what will we be able to save of our precious environment. Are glass specimen jars and museum displays the best we can hope for?
