13.01.2022 The Australian Government has recently announced that from 12:00pm on the 25th of March 2020, an Australian citizen or permanent resident must not travel outside of Australia, unless an exemption is granted to them. This restriction will be in force for an initial period of 4 weeks. A further revision of this arrangement will occur towards the end of the period to assess whether it continues to be necessary. Some exemptions may include: a person ordinarily resident in a cou...ntry other than Australia; a person who is member of the crew of an aircraft or vessel or if a worker associated with the safety or maintenance of the aircraft or vessel; a person engaged in the day to day conduct of inbound and outbound freight; a person whose travel is associated with essential work at an offshore facility; a person who is travelling on official government business. A person who fails to comply with this direction may be subject to imprisonment for a maximum of 5 years or be fined $63,000.

02.01.2022 In light of the COVID-19 pandemic, arrangements have been made to relax the 40 hours per fortnight work restrictions for individuals on Student visas currently in Australia. Student visa holders working in supermarkets may be able to work longer hours if their employing supermarket has gained approval from the Department. Approval may be obtained through an online form on the Department's website (please see link below).
