22.01.2022 http://www.thestrengthsfoundation.org/3-tips-for-understand Virginia Satir (1916-1988) was a pioneer of family therapy. Virginia encouraged people to be their true selves, mobilise their internal strengths which may have come from overcoming difficulties and express their essence as people. She enabled people to build enriching relationships in which individuals were encouraged to develop their uniqueness their strengths and their ‘differentness’ and continue to grow. She provided the inspiration for enabling people to build healthy systems families, teams and organisations that were based on ‘similarity of spirit’ and ‘diversity of strengths’.

17.01.2022 A Quote by Viktor E. Frankl on life, loss, imprisonment, youth, age, pride, envy, and suffering What will it matter to him if he notices that he is growing old? Has he any reason to envy the young people whom he sees, or wax nostalgic over his own lost youth? What reasons has he to envy a young person? For the possibilities that a young person has, the future which is in store for him? "No, thank you," he will think. "Instead of possibilities, I have realities in my past, not... only the reality of work done and love loved, but of sufferings bravely suffered. These sufferings are even the things of which I am most proud, though these things are things that cannot inspire envy. Viktor Frankl (1905 - 1997) Source: Man's Search for Meaning

15.01.2022 These are pictures of Chatel, Switzerland where I was recently at a 2 week seminar (ACTS - Advanced Counselling Training Seminar) led by Dr Paul Rodriguez (MD Psychiatry, Neurology, and Addiction Medicine) in Feb/March 2014. The focus of the seminar was both didactic teaching on resilience and identity, the person centred approach to counselling, and supervised skill development. It was a wonderful time of excellent professional development and fellowship with a diverse group of like minded people.

14.01.2022 Plays for Older People By facilitating more meaningfully relationships, participation in drama therapy can lower rates of depression, anxiety and behaviour problems commonly associated with loneliness and social isolation in RACF’s.... Plays for Older People (POP) is based on the principles of drama therapy. Drama therapy groups are run with up to 8 active participants and is particularly suited to individuals who are socially isolated and/or have low self-esteem, or lack confidence and/or the social skills to communicate with others. Drama groups are run weekly over 6 months for one hour duration and usually culminates in a ‘performance day’ for family and friends. This is a fun activity which puts ability and potential centre stage. Requirements for successful drama groups: willing participants; a space free of distractions for one hour per week which can accommodate 8-10 chairs and a small space to move around. POP plays have been extremely successful. One facility where Liz Angel has facilitated two successful POP drama groups was awarded Positive Living in Aged Care Highly Commended Award in 2011. We can facilitate a POP drama group in your facility, contact us or call Liz on 0414 498 390.
