25.01.2022 Couple relationships require intention and action
25.01.2022 Health and wellbeing is an environmental issue
23.01.2022 Obesogens are sneaky toxins that rob you of a healthy weight by disrupting your endocrine system. Most obesogens disturb insulin pathways, as well as your lepti...n levels, making it more of a challenge to lose weight. If you are having difficulty losing weight, obesogens may be the reason why those stubborn pounds refuse to come off despite your best efforts with diet and exercise. Before I tell you how to detox from these sneaky toxins, let me tell you what they are. Obesogens have been the subject of vigorous research for over a decade. Scientific interest evolved from the observation that the rising epidemic of obesity and the massive output of industrial chemicals were not just coincidental, but most likely related. Over time, weve begun to learn that certain environmental toxins change metabolic regulation in the hypothalamus. From there, environmental toxins can alter lipid balance, weight, cholesterol levels, signaling pathways, and protein production in many animals, including humans. Ironically, when you burn fat or lose weight, the toxins stored in those cells can be released into your bloodstream, ready to once again tire out your mitochondria or block hormone receptors like insulin or leptinmaking you hungrier and storing more fat than you burn as your liver works to recapture the freed toxins. Common obesogens: BPA, flame retardant tetrabromobisphenol A, phthalates (perfumes, air fresheners, scented lotions), PFOA (nonstick pans and microwave popcorn). How do you protect yourself from obesogens? Focused detoxification and elimination is the main objective. Here's the summary. Read the slides in the post for full details. 1Reduce your exposure Dont microwave food in plastic containers, use BPA-free cans and containers, use phthalate-free body products and cosmetics 2Enhance the elimination and detoxification of these obesogens Make a daily shake. Increase soluble fiber - utilize a functional fiber containing water-soluble polysaccharides. Start eating meals planned totally around plant-based foods. Add N-Acetyl Cysteine (NAC). Add both pre- and probiotics to your meals. Save to your collection, tag or share
22.01.2022 How have families and family life changed in Australia since 1980? Weve launched a new research series today called Families Then and Now. It will examine tren...ds over the last four decades. Why 40 years? Because thats how long AIFS has been focusing on families. Today were putting the microscope over changes in households and families. Read the research report here: https://aifs.gov.au/publications/households-and-families #FamiliesThen&Now
22.01.2022 This past week I shared a few posts about our exposure to toxins and how a lot of it appears to be unavoidable. Information like this can seem depressing becaus...e it feels like we are powerless. We can definitely reduce our toxin exposure where we can. However, we can also make many positive actions to reduce the toxic load on our liver. By loving our liver, we can help it greatly in its job of neutralizing and ridding our body of these toxins. Your liver is the main organ in charge of prioritizing the treatment of toxins. It makes most of them less dangerous through biochemical processing inside liver cells. Relying on the liver to do its job against all the toxins we face may not be sufficient. We are exposed to many different types of toxins in small amounts over the years, without knowing it. Tiny exposureswhen they accumulate, mix with other toxins, and create a backlog in the liver. Like in any triage situation, there are not enough resources to deal with everything at the same time. Some toxins take priority over others, such as alcohol. Alcohol moves to the front of the line, no matter what. This alone can be a good reason to reduce alcohol consumption to a minimum so you don't tie your liver up breaking down alcohol instead of focusing on other toxins. So how can you help your liver in its function of breaking down substances toxic to the body? When I talk about detoxing, I am not interested in detox teas or fad diets. I am talking about FOCUSED DETOXIFICATION by eating vegetables, clearing the liver pathways, using supplements, sweating, saunas. Details to come in the next few posts. Let's start with veggies: Certain vegetables help with liver detoxification and trigger cleanup in both your liver and your immune system. Cruciferous vegetables are key here. Think broccoli, cabbage, kale, Brussels sprouts, radishes, watercress and cauliflower. Crucifers contain sulforaphane, which helps to improve detoxification pathways. Sulforaphane boosts the production of glutathione (more on this queen detoxifier soon). The same receptor on cells that environmental toxins use for their negative effects is also used by cruciferous vegetables. That means when you eat more cruciferous vegetables, you crowd out the bad environmental toxins and strengthen your mitochondria. Unfortunately, cruciferous vegetables get a bad rap. Too many childhood memories of boiled cabbage and overcooked broccoli, maybe. What is your favorite cruciferous vegetable? Share your favorite cabbage, cauliflower, or broccoli recipes below #eatyourbroccoli #detoxificationpathways #glutathione #sulforaphane

19.01.2022 You dont have to be a hero when impacted by chronic disease or cancer. There is no hero narrative you must live up to ... the only task is to be yourself and to take each day at a time... to take a values led direction or do absolutely nothing because breathing is enough. My work with clients usually supports the trauma of cancer diagnosis and medical treatment.

06.01.2022 Its as simple (and as difficult) as that.
05.01.2022 Just because a person experiences the emotion of anxiety it does not mean they have a diagnosis of Anxiety. This is why it is so important for children to have emotion COACHING parents. How many adults had a parent who supported them to learn, adapt and grow in response to anxious feelings, sad feelings or grief, loss and adjustment? Often parents sent the message Im sad or worried when you experience these emotions so please put on your happy face or just push through and succeed and then well all be ok . Social anxiety can reveal a history of narcissistic parenting, trauma or even both. It requires counselling and maybe medication at times. It is much more than experiencing emotions of anxiety or fear at times.
04.01.2022 There is so much specialist counselling information and support for this these days. 01.01.2022 Wellbeing takes more than a pill... it takes relationships and activities that support taking values led directions in life ... no matter the circumstances. We are not islands ... every action affects ourselves, others and our world. Every action is a contribution or a withdrawal... we are like farmers who with every decision leads to another step toward flourishing soils, animals and vegetation creating high quality food for others or desertification and lost opportunities
01.01.2022 As a Couple Therapist I am seeing couples finding things quite Covid fraught recently. Unless there is family violence now might be the time to learn how to cleave not leave.
