25.01.2022 1. Many years ago, I once asked a well-respected politician, what is politics? He said, when your constituent comes to you and tells you his concern, at this moment there is no more important thing to you in the world than his concern this, is politics. His words formed my understanding of politics.... Today, when I finally find that politics is much more than that, I still think that what he told me is the part of politics that I like. Regarding what has happened these last a few days, what I feel most upset is that our local community - my lovely neighbours, has been bothered and annoyed by this matter so much. I didn’t plan to make any comment before the legal action, but now I think I should say something, not to fight with someone (not interested at all), but to reassure those who support me. 2. The so-called evidence is not what this person says or what that person says. You should tell everyone - what I, or we (the community group CCCAV which I am associated with), did? You have no idea? Ok let me briefly tell you what we did. A most recent one - last year the CCCAV partnered with the Attorney-General’s Department and hosted the Foreign Influence Transparency Scheme information session to brief the Chinese community in Victoria about the scheme. The CCCAV was the only Chinese organisation in Victoria that the Federal Attorney-General’s Department chose to co-host this important session. I assume the Federal Attorney-General’s Department knows better than you when they choose a partner? And if the only thing you are good at is discussing connections and association, let me also tell you that the Federal Government appointed Race Discrimination Commissioner Mr Chin Tan is one of the past presidents of the CCCAV. 3. I really don’t want to waste everyone’s time. The countless evidence is left to the lawyer to deal with. Dear neighbors, I'm sorry for taking so much time and attention from you. Good night.
21.01.2022 This is my How to Vote advice. Thanks for your support.
16.01.2022 Times have been tough for our hospitality businesses in Glen Eira and they need our support. Temporary, extended trading in outdoor public space could support t...raders when the restrictions ease. Extended footpath trading will be available, but we would like to hear from traders on additional opportunities that include: temporary pop-up parklets in 1-2 car parking bays, and temporary use of space to the rear of a premises, in laneways or public car parks. Input from traders and trader groups will help us understand support for these opportunities and assist us in planning next steps. 15.01.2022 Council’s core services should remain primarily in the hands of Council in order to ensure that everyone in the community has fair access to them. Public economics studies have found that privatisation negatively impacts the right to the public goods by entrenching inequalities and excluding the marginalised, and eroding democratic decision making and public accountability in relation to service governance. Privatisation isn’t what most of us want, and it leads to worse publi...c services, and less transparency and accountability because we can’t see contracts that are ‘commercially confidential’. Privatisation costs more in the long term and damages the Council services people rely on. If elected, I will fight to keep Council-run aged care, childcare, early education and other core services in community hands.
15.01.2022 The way of communication between Kay and I seems a bit old fashioned we write to each other! Kay is my next door neighbor. She spent her early years in the UK and lived here in Bentleigh for most of her life. She now lives alone. I sometimes ring Kay to check in with her, but we use written communication more as her hearing is not very good. From time to time I leave a small greeting card in her mailbox, just asking whether everything is ok or she needs any help. She alway...s replies to me immediately with a cute card as well and lets me know that she is well. We have been enjoying this way of communication like school aged girls for many years. And whenever our family travels overseas, we don’t have to worry about our house, because Kay always helps to keep an eye on it. As the old saying goes, A good neighbor is a priceless treasure. Recently, I wrote to tell Kay that I was going to run for council elections. She wrote me an encouraging message and said that she, as a long-time local resident, would be very pleased to endorse me. I am very grateful for Kay’s encouragement and endorsement. At the same time, I have always been thinking about what the Council can do for the seniors in our community who live alone. Among the various functions of the Council, the services provided to the seniors are particularly important. The Council must ensure that these services are not just window-dressing, but quality services that the most vulnerable groups in our community can really rely on.
15.01.2022 So happy to see there is now ZERO active cases in Glen Eira! We've come a long way to this point
12.01.2022 Thanks to the lovely neighbours who have agreed to have my corflute on their fences! Let me know if you'd like one! I will come over to put it up under the government's Safe Campaign Guidelines. I'm so grateful for all the incredible support!
10.01.2022 The upcoming council election is really important for our local area. Council needs strong voices with a background in business to support our community's economic recovery from COVID-19. I have an MBA from the University of Melbourne and 20 years of business experience. That means I can bring to council a real understanding of the challenges that families and businesses are facing right now - with a strong plan to guide us into the future. If elected, I will cut unnecessary ...costs, run council with strong financial management and deliver services efficiently to keep rates as low as possible. As a young mum, I want to know I am doing everything I can to raise my child in a great community with trees, safe streets and quality services like libraries, parks and playgrounds. I want the roads to be safe, retail areas to be vibrant, and sporting clubs and community groups to be supported. I am a proud and passionate Tucker Ward resident. As your local councillor, I will vote against inappropriate development in our residential streets and fight to protect the unique character of our suburbs. I will ensure Council resources are shared fairly. A fair share of Council resources must be delivered to Tucker Ward Bentleigh East, Bentleigh, McKinnon, Brighton East. Tucker Ward needs a local advocate who will listen and act on fresh ideas, and be our voice in Council. As a fully self-funded candidate, I will put local residents and ratepayers first. Please make your voice count and vote 1 for Li Zhang. Thank you for your support.
08.01.2022 Today is the Moon Festival, also known as Mid-Autumn Festival or Mooncake Festival. It’s a traditional festival celebrated by Chinese and many other Asian communities. It’s the second-most important Chinese festival after Chinese New Year, with a history dating back 3,000 years. The celebration is called Chuseok (autumn eve) in Korea and Tsukimi (moon-viewing) in Japan, and Tt Trung Thu in Vietnam. Lantern Festival is another term sometimes used in Singapore, Malaysia and ...Indonesia. The festival traditionally celebrates thanksgiving for the autumn harvest, and now is more of an occasion for family reunion with the full moon this night as a symbol of reunion. To all who celebrate it I wish you and your family a happy Moon Festival.
07.01.2022 Only 3 active cases in Glen Eira! Well done neighbours!
04.01.2022 My statement concerning the recent slander upon me: 1. I have never been a member of the Chinese Communist Party, and never will be. 2. The Chinese Community Council of Australia Victorian Chapter (CCCAV) is a 100% Chinese Australian community group, with no affiliation with any foreign government. ... 3. I have already lodged official complaint with the Victorian Electoral Commission and the Australian Human Rights Commission. 4. Further legal action will soon be taken. Thank you to all the supportive and encouraging voices. You are the reason I didn’t give up. Thank you.
03.01.2022 Whether we accept it or not, the fact is that our Glen Eira is becoming a city with a larger population and denser houses. We should probably be proud of its popularitybut at the same time, we don’t want it to lose its overall liveability. I have always been thinking and proposing that we should learn from Singapore. Every time I go to Singapore, I am always amazed that they are both a dense city and such a green and beautiful garden city. Singapore went from 36% green cover... in the 1980s to almost 50% today. What did they do? If you are a developer trying to build new buildings in Singapore, you have to replace any greenery you have displaced. Green roofs, high-rise terrace gardens, and cascading vertical greenery are just part of every new building. In some place, all developments comply with a 100 percent greenery replacement policy. I believe a greenery replacement policy is definitely something we can adopt. Singapore has established a widespread program of roadside planting for expressways, major and minor roads, as well as for open car parks. They are also connecting their many parks into a network. As this park connector expands, Singaporeans will have access to a few hundred kilometres of cycling and walking trails throughout the islandthey’ve already spawned a new cycling culture. If elected, I will vote against inappropriate development and fight to protect the unique character of our suburbs. But that is not enough. I want to bring some more innovative approaches to Council to deal with the existing problems, and put the long-term future into consideration as well. Liveable density is about maintaining/improving quality of life despite that density. We must recognise that we need to design our homes and other spaces in the larger-scale context of the city with a holistic approach. Council needs to consider any developments’ connection with the whole environment and in relation to a range of pertinent issues such as population growth, climate change and resource limitations. Council must play a meaningful role in shaping the future for the next generation.
