25.01.2022 Year 12 is highly challenging and at times, a stressful season under usual circumstances. There is no doubt that the uncertainty and changes we have experienced in the last few months have placed a further load on our Senior students. In light of this, the Year 12 Wellbeing Day held on Tuesday of Week 10 was a valuable opportunity to pause, take stock, reflect, enjoy the company of peers and to find balance in our busy world. The students spent a session with their Heads of H...ouse reflecting on advice from various staff members and thinking about who they want to be as they move towards life after school. Lunch was a delicious spread prepared and served by the Year 11 Foods classes, plus a fresh fruit smoothie or juice of their choice. The afternoon was spent with many choosing to let their hair down and burn off some energy playing volleyball, badminton, table tennis or challenging themselves on the (highly exhausting) inflatable meltdown. Others took a more relaxed pace and played lawn games, cards, did jigsaw puzzles or simply enjoyed chatting with their friends. The atmosphere was overwhelmingly positive and it was a joy to see students taking time out of their busy schedules and connecting with each other.

25.01.2022 Were so proud to be West Australian and privileged to live in the best city in the world. Our College celebrated our unique opportunity to safely sit shoulder to shoulder today as our Primary School assembly and Friday Live returned to our Auditorium for the first time in almost five months. We are grateful to our staff and community, to now see our students enjoy a safe return to group gatherings at LJBC. #Grateful #perth #perthisok #perthlife #westernaustralia #wa #perthcity #perthnow #perthtodo #justanotherdayinwa

24.01.2022 The Lake Joondalup Baptist College Future Problem Solving Teams continue to compete at very high levels including state, national and international tournaments. Recently, our students did exceptionally well again with five of our teams selected to represent WA and the College at the Future Problem Solving National competition. For the competition they had to study the topic of Poverty and what it would look like 30 years from now. They did an excellent job at the Nationals and we are incredibly proud of all our teams for reaching this stage of the competitive program with their high level of global and futuristic thinking.

24.01.2022 This week is National Science week and our theme is: Deep Blue: innovation for the future of our oceans. In keeping with our theme, the Science foyer looks a little different and in the classroom our Science teachers will be carrying out some ocean science activities. Thank you to our amazing Science team for your creativity!

23.01.2022 During Week 9, our Primary School presented the finals of our public speaking competition - LJ Speaks. On both mornings we watched incredibly talented public speakers from Years 1-6 present on topics ranging from How to Look After a Puppy to William Tell to The Brain. Once again, we were so impressed with the confidence and professionalism shown by our young students. Each year, the quality of our students public speaking improves, making the job of the judges extremely hard. In many cases, there was a matter of one or two points between first and third places. Thank you to our judges across both mornings Mrs Roodt, Mrs de Jong, Mrs Hawkey, Mr Gaudin, Mrs Jarvis and Mr Young.

22.01.2022 Author in Residence - Mark Greenwood Author in Residence week provides our students with a framework upon which to develop the fundamentals of writing, narrative techniques, and the aesthetics of storytelling. During weeks 3 and 4 we were joined by West Australian author, Mark Greenwood. Mark writes books that explore little known slices of history from the intersection of personal experiences and historical events. During classroom workshop sessions, he aligned student-centred activities to themes and texts currently being studied in class. Westbooks

20.01.2022 A very happy Fathers day goes out from the Lake Joondalup Baptist Chaplaincy Department today! We were not able to have a legendary breakfast cook up due to continued social distancing precautions however, we would still like to bless the community with a short and fun video. We interviewed some of our Colleges siblings to find out what they really think about Dad...

18.01.2022 Whilst being fun and social, extra-curricular activities are also important in helping develop a child's talents, interests, and passions. One enriching activity is learning to play a musical instrument. Once children have grasped the basics of playing an instrument, they are likely to really enjoy it. All of our students get an opportunity to not only learn an instrument, but to play the instrument within a ‘live concert’ environment.

18.01.2022 West Coast Futsal Titles In Week 7 this term our Football Academy students competed in the West Coast School Futsal Titles and completed a clean sweep as Champions in all Boys and Girls categories they entered, winning the North Metro Competitions in each age group from Years 6 to 11. Numerous schools across the week competed in the Titles, including Dianella Secondary College, Morley Senior High School, Peter Moyes Anglican Community School, Balga Senior High School, Lynwood... Senior High School, Emmanuel Christian Community College, Australian Islamic College, Ashdale Secondary College, Ocean Reef Senior High School and Ballajura Community College. As coaches we were impressed by the intensity of our teams both in and out of possession, as well as the humility and sportsmanship demonstrated throughout the week. This was a great way to start 2021 before our Football Academy students begin playing in the School Sport WA Competitions in Terms 2 & 3. See more

Every Wednesday morning at 7.30am, a number of ladies across the year levels meet in the sports centre to tackle that mornings workout. This is a great way for our female students to connect with each other while in a relaxed, fun and practical environment before the school day starts. 14.01.2022 ADHD Go-to-Guide Our staff at LJBC gathered together this week for the first time since March to hear from Professor Desiree Silva. Professor Silva is co-director for the ORIGINS Project and a Professor of Paediatrics at UWA and Joondalup Health Campus. Professor Silva (along with ADHD coach Michele Toner) has written an ADHD Go-to-Guide for parents and teachers, providing up to date knowledge in a simple, easy to read format. Professor Silva spoke to our staff about ADHD, a... framework and practical tips for how you can manage and advocate for a child in different settings, with or without medication. Professor Silva also summarised evidence to date for medication and alternative therapies, examined commonly held beliefs about ADHD and debunked some myths. Our staff found the session extremely interesting and beneficial and we thank Professor Silva for kindly donating her time to share her expertise and advice with us. - ADHD is a complex neurological condition that results in poor concentration and control of impulses. - It can affect a childs learning and social skills and can have an impact on family functioning. - It is estimated that one in 20 children in Australia have ADHD. - It is more common in boys than in girls. - Some children have ADHD but without the hyperactivity. These children have trouble focussing and paying attention and can be forgetful and easily distracted. Sometimes the term inattentive ADHD is used to describe this condition. - The exact causes of ADHD are unknown, but it tends to run in families, so genes play some part. - With understanding, care and, in some cases, medical treatment, a child with ADHD can live a normal life. 13.01.2022 FOOTBALL CHAMPIONS Our Senior Girls Football team were successful at the ACC Championship Lightning Carnival earlier this term. They defeated all teams in the northern zone to make the Grand Final and played Seton Catholic College who won the southern zone. Our team, consisting of Year 7-11 girls played really well at the day Carnival with guidance from Captain Gracie-May and our Senior Football Academy Girls. The LJBC team were on point from the kick-off, pressuring the Set...on defense and kicking 3 unanswered goals in the first half. Our defense were outstanding and held off Seton in the second half to win the match 5 nil. Most Valuable Player for the match Hannah kicked 4 goals and her fancy footwork had the Seton defense baffled. Congratulations to all girls who contributed to the day Carnival and to our girls who represented the College with pride in the Final. We are looking forward to seeing this team excel in future years.

13.01.2022 We are so excited to announce that tickets for The Little Mermaid will go live this Monday 3 August 4pm!

13.01.2022 Our talented Primary students provided the script, all of the acting and voice-overs for this video. In their own words, they talk about The LJ Way and what it means to them. Although they are incredibly cute, The LJ Way has clearly made the students think about how peoples actions can either be positive or negative. The LJ Way Values are; Be Kind, Be Respectful and Be Fair.

12.01.2022 Visit our @LJBCPerth Instagram page tomorrow and Friday for more photos. The LJBC Year 6 'Making it different 2020' week is a chance for all Year 6 students to celebrate their Primary school achievements before heading into Secondary school next year. On Monday and Tuesday, the students took part in a range of fun/team building activities including beach team games, minute to win it, archery, orienteering and challenging themselves on a flying fox and the 'big swing'. These team-based activities required our Year 6 students to set clear, realistic objectives with a shared sense of purpose and required exceptional problem-solving skills! Well done team! Thank you also to our Primary teachers for organising this incredible week.

SCSA is purchasing one of the three works that make up her body of work. We congratulate Abigail on this fine achievement.

06.01.2022 https://mixcord.co/acapella/p/MJFzClh699mjRFOSJ1rXbg/ For the LJBC Flute Choir, rehearsals looked a little different during the peak of the Corona Virus Pandemic. Like many other music students around the country and around the world, we had to find another way to keep performing together and enjoying the camaraderie that playing in an ensemble brings. During the lockdown and period of online schooling, the Flute Choirs Conductor, Mrs Nina Shinkfield, set to work arranging H...olsts famous Jupiter theme from The Planets. The next step was working out how the Flute Choir would be able to perform it together without physically being together. We are delighted to now share with you the Flute Choirs virtual performance of Jupiter above, made possible by and app called Acapella. Although it is primarily used for vocalists, it is also widely used by instrumentalists as a multitrack tool to create multi frame music videos. Each member of the Flute Choir recorded their own part separately and then all parts were synchronised to create one track at the end. Well done to our talented and dedicated flautists!

05.01.2022 Its always great to have our Students actively involved in the Western Australia Governors Prayer Breakfast. 04.01.2022 For many more photos pls visit our Instagram page @LJBCPerth. Our ELC wet carnival is always a highlight in the LJBC year! Running through water, splashing in the pool, running races and playing in a giant inflatable slide are just some of the activities that our young students enjoyed. As well as being beneficial to cognitive and physical development and developing fine motor skills, everyone gets to take a well deserved break from the classroom. Thank you to our wonderful staff for organising this event!

03.01.2022 The LJBC Sports department kicked off the 2020 School Rugby Union season with a doubleheader Rugby X fixture. Rugby X is an exciting, fast-paced and new Rugby format allowing players to showcase their athletic ability in a fun way. LJBC will be one of the first schools in WA to trial this new format.

03.01.2022 The Cadets need to be congratulated on the way they have navigated their way through this term (pun intended) with all of its challenges. A few of our senior leaders took on the challenge of presenting some of the training sessions online with Teams and did an admirable job of engaging their counterparts during these sessions. Since we have been meeting on site, our younger leaders have had the opportunity to step up as well, working alongside our recruits and running trainin...g in knot tying, tent maintenance, search techniques and compass use. Fun was had by all playing laser tag around the school one afternoon and completing an obstacle course on another. Many had the opportunity to face their fears when WA Reptiles visited to give us some insight into snake behaviour and an opportunity to handle a variety of snakes, large and small. We ended the term on a high with a day trip to Kerem Adventure Camp. Cadets displayed their capabilities on the high ropes and climbing wall and finished the day with an all-out colour war which was as much fun as is sounds.

02.01.2022 LJBC Rugby was very pleased to welcome Mr Peter Grant, formally of the South African ‘Springboks’, Cape Town ‘Stormers’ and more recently the ‘Western Force’, to our Rugby Clinic this week. The clinic was run by Rugby WA and supported by Joondalup Brothers Rugby Club. We also welcomed back ex-students and current Joondalup Brothers senior players, George Peters and Taana-Nui Phillips, who assisted Rugby WA in the running of the clinic.

02.01.2022 On Friday evening, our Year 10 students gathered together for a cruise across the Swan River. It was a fun way to unwind together and welcome in the last week of term. A buffet meal was made available almost from the time of departure. Once dessert was cleared, the dance floor was full right up until the boat docked. Our Year 10 River cruise and events like it benefit a student’s overall learning experience. The great interactions and conversations help students build relationships, understand different perspectives and expand social circles. For more photos, please visit our Instagram page @ljbcPerth.

02.01.2022 Mathematics is hands-on hard work! During the first semester, our Pre Primary 2 students busily settled into full-time schooling and started more formalised learning. As teachers, we endeavour to make learning engaging with concrete materials and games. It is hard work and our young students have risen to the challenge of being extended in their thinking to demonstrate their amazing mathematical skills. We are excited to share a snap-shot of some of the wonderful learning we ...captured during our Mathematics lessons. These photographs highlight our learning in Number, Patterns, Geometry (2D shapes and 3D objects) and Measurement (Time). Enjoy asking your children to explain what they were learning in some of these photographs! Wendy McCracken Pre Primary Teacher
