25.01.2022 What a wonderful way to end the week in the Preschool Room! Today was a very exciting day, as it was finally the day of our excursion to the Botanic gardens and the Calyx! The excursion started with children working with Miss Laura to make sandwiches for our picnic lunch! ... Children had a choice of ham and cheese , ham and cheese! making sandwiches together was not only a sociable experience, but also fostered the childrens small muscle skills and co-ordination. Making sandwiches involves many skills and steps and the children demonstrated their ability to scrape butter, spread it on the bread , take the fillings , add them to the bread and finally wrap them securely in aluminium foil! We are always keen to make learning meaningful for children, and giving them the opportunity to make their own lunch for excursions is just one way we do this! Before we knew it, it was time to head off! We were fortunate to be joined by Miss Laura, our Centre Director Mariana and members of her family visiting from Mexico !~ As we walked from the Centre around the the Gardens, we were able to take in many exciting sights! Fountains! Circular Quay! The train station! Ferries! We chatted happily as we weaved through the crowds and we were all so impressed by how well the children listened to the adults and pointed out various sights. The children were also most vigilant in crossing the roads and waited patiently for the green man! Heading around the quay, we were excited to see the Harbour Bridge, Opera House and Luna Park! As we approached the gates to the gardens, we spotted the Choo Choo Train Express . As we climbed aboard, we took in the surrounding view of Farm Cove. The driver soon joined us... and off we went! Travelling through the gardens, he pointed out Government House (with its 120 rooms!) , sculptures, trees and more! It wasnt long before we arrived at the Calyx! Its an impressive structure and worth a visit. We headed indoors and were all struck by the beauty of the interior, complete with huge vertical garden! The current exhibition focuses on carnivorous plants. We spotted Venus Fly Traps and Pitcher Plants! We read the information boards to the children, all of whom were intrigued. There were many questions! Luckily, a garden volunteer was on hand to answer those that stumped us! Heading back to the Centre, we stopped for one final treat... refreshing Icy Poles! A perfect way to enjoy a break before continuing our journey. Before we knew it, we were back at the Centre, children settled down for a refreshing rest and sleep! We definitely will be heading back to enjoy more sights in the Botanic gardens! #littlekingdomchildcare #therocks #childcarecbd #excursion #sydneycbd #childcaresydney

24.01.2022 During a recent excursion from Little Kingdom The Rocks to Customs House Library and First Fleet Park, the children, parents and educators were fortunate to meet and listen to a young and engaging Indigenous performer! He sat by First Fleet Park, entertaining passers-by with his didgeridoo playing! It was so enchanting, that we decided to stop awhile and listen! As we listened, he treated us to a musical game, whereby native Australian animals were represented by... the didgeridoo being played in different ways. This performance was such an unexpected treat and it really added to the excursion! We were so fortunate to meet and spend time in his company! #littlekingdomchildcare #therocks #childcareCBD #excursion #library #picnicathepark

23.01.2022 What a blast we had at Little Kingdom The Rocks! Our annual childrens Christmas party was once again a great success! It was great to see all the children enjoying the special activities and events during the party. They cuddled animals at the petting zoo, jumped around, played and danced during the interactive dance classes , and sang along to some fun festive songs in the music class . They loved running around and playing in our Santas Grotto, which looked a...mazing! Thanks to the families and Gerogie Boys Caf for donating so many milk bottles. It was so lovely to see families spending time together, enjoying each others company and having an opportunity to have this time together. A big Thank you to all our dedicated team, who have been working so hard over the past few weeks in preparing the Centre - finalising portfolios, making and hanging decorations with the children and working with the children to make presents! It has all come together so wonderfully! Thank you to all our lovely families who came; it was great to see you all there. On behalf of all the staff and educators, we wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! We are looking forward to 2019 with excitement Its going to be a great year! #littlekingdomchildcare #merrychristmas #newyear #fun #earlylearning #santa #presents #education #sydney #childcaresydney #therocks

22.01.2022 "Reading is our secret super power" Last week was National Book Week and we had a blast at Little Kingdom Childcare The Rocks celebrating all things related to early literacy. The children had opportunities to take part in a range of engaging experiences!... Children and educators from the Toddler and Preschool Rooms were fortunate enough to visit Customs House Library , where they enjoyed stories read by the Librarians and then took part in some fun art experiences! Later in the week, the children and educators from the Preschool visited Fort Street Public School , where they not only got to see the fun-filled Book Week parade, but also took part! They dressed up as favourite characters and proudly showed off their wonderful costumes in front of the children and staff from Fort Street! Over the past years, our Centre Director Miss Mariana and Educational Leader Mr Andrew have maintained contact with Michele Peel-Yates, the Principal of Fort Street Public School as part of our building a partnership with the local schools . This trip was a great opportunity for our children to familiarise themselves with a school setting and explore the local environment. We wrapped up the week with our own parade at Little Kingdom! It was great seeing the educators and children dress up as their favourite characters and show off their creativity! What made this even more special was our very own Family Storytime, with Mums and Dads joining us to read stories! This was such a wonderful week, with stories shared , puppet shows performed , books written and illustrated by the children and other exciting story related experiences planned! #Nationalbookweek #littlekingdomchildcare #Therocks #childcarecbd #storytime #excursions #fortstreetprimaryschool #localschools #locallibrary.

19.01.2022 Dear Lovely Families, What a wonderful evening we all enjoyed at our 3rd annual Vivid party! The scene was set with views of installations displayed on the Harbour Bridge, the Opera House and down by Circular Quay! The coloursand lights dotted around the city were complemented by the dazzling artwork created by the children and educators! These 3D artworks reflected the creativity and inspiration shown by each room, as they interpreted the spirit of Vivid in... so many ways! The exhibition dazzled with colourand light, and captured everyones attention! It was so encouraging to see how hard each of the rooms had worked in creating these installations during the previous week, and the planning that went into putting them together and then exhibiting them! Out on the Sharks/Preschool terrace, families, children andeducators mingled, as they took in the views across Sydney, drawn to the colours, light and sound on show! It was a lovely opportunity for us to enjoy each others company and get to know each other better, all adding to the family feel of Little Kingdom! As we socialised, we enjoyed a delicious range of food - dips, crackers, hot dogs ,and drinks , all the while being entertained with spinning, coloured lights, a bubble machine, and some great music ! So that we can all continue to enjoy this special evening, a Vivid party inspired playlist has been put together, featuring Jennifer Lopez, Rizzle Kicks, Im Talking, INXS and Kylie Minogue! Its available for download on Spotify (Vivid At The Rocks). This event wouldnt have been the same without the contributions made by: * our wonderful families, for your ongoing support of all that we do at Little Kingdom * the committed educators, who planned the installations and worked with the children to bring these ideas to fruition * our Director, Mariana, who encouraged the team in their organisation and creation of artworks. She gave so much positive feedback and drew on her experiences from previous Vivid events * the wonderful children, who showed how creative and capable they are and were so excited by the prospect of a celebration * the dedicated staff who helped to set up tables, chairs, speakers, lights, the BBQ... and more, and then worked hard to pack it all away, so that we were ready to open the Centre on Monday morning. We are all so fortunate to be part of the Little Kingdom family, who really do work in partnership for the children and support each other in so many ways. We all had such a wonderful evening and look forward to our next celebration together! #littlekingdomchildcare #vividsydney2019 #littlekingdomtherocks #childcarecbd #vividsydney

19.01.2022 Did you know that about 1 in 5 babies and toddlers in Australia don't have access to enough nappies to keep them clean, healthy and happy? We so excited to announce that Little Kingdom Childcare The Rocks have been APPROVED AS A DROP POINT for the fantastic charity efforts for "The Nappy Collective". The Nappy Collective is a community led initiative that was started by a group of mums that had the ongoing problem of their children outgrowing their... nappies before they all got used. If you have any leftover nappies, sitting in draws, at the bottom of your nappy bag, in the back of a cupboard at the grandparents’ house - you can drop them at our CBD Centre so that they can be redistributed to organisations who support families in crisis or in need. A handful of leftover nappies may not mean much to you or me, but a collective of these nappies can make a huge impact to families in crisis or in need. We have placed a collection box in the foyer next to the lifts for our families to start contributing to. We’re excited to have our families and wider community taking part in this initiative to help local families in need. ***If you have any leftover nappies, Please feel feee to drop the then at our CBD Centre*** Little Kingdom Childcare The Rocks Level 4, 111 Harrington Street, The Rocks 2000 For further information go to www.thenappycollective.com

19.01.2022 Vivid Sydney Party at the Rocks!

18.01.2022 Here at Little Kingdom The Rocks, we are proud to be part of a diverse community of families, children and educators. One of the most recent ways that we acknowledged our diversity was by celebrating 'Rainbow Day' at our Centre. Some of the children had commented on the rainbow flag displayed in the nearby Canadian Consulate , which led to a discussion about those who make up our community and the meaning of the flag. ... Our celebration included: * children and educators dressing up in their most colourful clothes * sharing stories featuring a range of families and non-gender stereotypical characters * discussing ways that we can show love for others. This acknowledgement is also reflected in the books available in our LK Family Library. Although prompted by 2021's LGBTQIA+ Mardi Gras, this acknowledgement is an ongoing part of our Centre's program and we're excited by the future possibilities and opportunities that are sought to continue reflecting and celebrating our Community! #rainbowday #loveislove #diversity #littlekingdomchildcare #childcarecbd #therocks

18.01.2022 At Little Kingdom The Rocks, we recognise the contribution that our amazing educators make to the learning and development of the children in our care. To celebrate Early Childhood Educators Day, the Management Team took the opportunity to thank the hardworking educators at LK. This special day is celebrated worldwide and is a public acknowledgement of the work that educators do. A delicious buffet lunch was provided for the educators and was set up in... our beautifully decorated events room. Parents contributed tasty cakes and cupcakes as a way of saying thankyou. Parents also entered into the spirit of the day by taking the opportunity to acknowledge the hard work of the educators. They took paper leaves and wrote so many encouraging messages, which really made the educators day! These leaves have been displayed in our staffroom, where the educators see and read them daily! We are so proud of each of our educators, all of whom bring strengths and skills to the Centre. The educators are keen to thank the owners and Management Team for their ongoing support and encouragement! #littlekingdomchildcare #childcarecbd #therocks #sydneycbd #educatorsday2020

11.01.2022 Here at Little Kingdom, The Rocks, the dedicated educators are keen to acknowledge milestones in the childrens lives! One of the special ways that educators do this is by organising a wonderful Graduation Ceremony for the Preschoolers who will be starting school in 2019! 10.01.2022 An Excursion to Barangaroo! Over the last two months, children and educators from our Toddlers Rooms have undertaken a project on Transport . This developed from stories shared by families about their Christmas break , which led to discussions about ways in which families travelled, including cars and planes! It has also tied in with discussions about ways in which the children travel from home to the Centre, be it bus, ferry, or car! ... Taking childrens interest in photos sent in by families, the educators have been planning a range of engaging experiences that have focused on different modes of transport. These have included songs and stories , making models of cars and boats using recyclable materials , setting up chairs to make a bus and creating pictures of different modes of transport! The children have all taken to these experiences with enthusiasm and enjoyment! This project then culminated in an excursion to Barangaroo! After packing a picnic lunch and rug, and helping the children with their hats , sunscreen and hi-vis jackets, we left the Centre and walked to the ferry wharves at Circular Quay! Although its a short walk, theres always plenty to see, including the trains arriving at and departing from Circular Quay Station. While waiting for our ferry ferry , we were entertained by an Indigineous musician , who treated us to a special performance of his beautifully decorated tappping sticks! He then invited us to have our photo taken with him! Soon after, we boarded the ferry to Barangaroo! What a wonderful trip! We saw so many sights, including the Opera House, the Harbour Bridge and Luna Park , The children were so thrilled to be out on the harbour and enjoy the trip! After arriving at our destination, we walked along the waterfront, until we reached our picnic spot! After the picnic, one of the educators read The Kangaroo from Barangaroo. This book tells the story of a young kangaroo who travels to Sydney in search of adventure and tasty treats, which he finally discovers at Barangaroo Reserve! We then headed over to the nearby Rivareno Gelateria , where we all enjoyed a delicious ice-cream. We all felt very special, sitting down at the tables, and taking in the view and passing crowds! It was very relaxing, taking time out to watch the world go by! It was soon time to return to the Centre! We walked back to the wharf, waiting patiently for a Rivercat, which was an exciting (and speedy) way to return to the Centre, where we all enjoyed a well-deserved rest and more engaging play experiences! We cant wait for our next exciting excursion!

10.01.2022 WET & WILD WEEK AT LITTLE KINGDOM THE ROCKS! Outdoor play allows children to explore and learn more about their environment. One recent highlight at LK The Rocks has been our Water Week, which saw educators plan a range of engaging water based play experiences! Plastic pools and sprinklers were purchased and made available for the children to explore! ... Smiles and laughter abounded, as the children jumped , splashed and swam alongside their friends. The children took opportunities to take turns, share their skills and strengthen their muscles, all whilst playing! The children and educators also undertook experiments, where they made predictions about objects that float and those that sink, and discussed why some do and some dont. These investigations allowed the children to hypothesize and then test these together. Investigations continued, as children and educators collaborated on freezing water to produce ice and then see how long it took to melt! There were so many wonderful opportunities for children to ask questions, share knowledge and skills, collaborate , discover , enjoy each others company and more, during this special week! Our hardworking educators outshone themselves, as they planned, purchased and joined in the fun! Since our Water Week was so successful, we have decided to repeat it next week!

Matthew also shared stories and aspect...s of Indigenous culture with us, giving us all a better understanding of culture and community. This wonderful experience helped to strengthen our bonds with local community organisations and will be a great starting point for our planning cycle! #littlekingdomchildcare #therocks #childcarecbd #incursion #localcommunity

07.01.2022 At Little Kingdom Childcare The Rocks we aim to incorporate local community group visits into our curriculum. Last week we received a very special visit from the fire brigade Three of the local fire fighters took some time out of their very busy day to come and speak to the children about fire safety. We discussed safe and unsafe fires and the importance of always having an adult with us in circumstances of being near hot items or safe fires. The fire f...ighters then explained the steps we should take in the case of a fire emergency. We spoke about meeting at the mail box and calling "000". We then practiced the techniques of "Get down low and go, go" and "stop, drop and roll". To complete our amazing group time, fire fighter Dan put on his fire costume to show the children what fire fighters look like when they are putting out a fire. They explained that the oxygen mask may make them look scary but theyre still friendly and only want to help us so they should not be scared. After asking some questions, the classes took turns to go down stairs with their educators and have a look at the fire truck. The children were told about the different functions of the equipment and were also given the opportunity to hop into the fire truck and have a look around. We all gave the fire fighters a huge thank you for taking the time out of their busy schedule to come in and make the childrens day and build on their knowledge about fire safety! They drove away with their sirens on to complete their amazing incursion! #littlekingdomchildcare #therocks #childcarecbd #sydneycbd #incursion
