05.01.2022 Llandovery Tag sale a success Llandovery Illawarras reported more than 90% clearance for its Find Your Future Tag sale which was held on-farm at Girgarre this weekend. The top price of $7000 was paid for Lot 43 Llandovery Visions Verbena. She was sold to the enthusiastic young showman, Charlie Lloyd, of Kyabram. The second high price was $6900 and it was paid for Lot 27 Llandovery BM Pearl to James Breen, and Roger and Amanda Heath, Western Districts. ... Llandovery’s Tony Hayes said the $2500 average was a super result, and heightened by the reality that Llandovery didn’t have the overheads of running an auction in a tight season. We like the auction system too, don’t get me wrong, Tony said. But we felt that the Tag sale format was a new adventure. We don’t mind trying new things. And, we didn’t know how it’d go, but sitting here now that it’s finished, it was an unbelievable result. We are particularly thrilled that a number of buyers from other breeds expressed interest. Hopefully this is a great thing for our breed and the industry as a whole. Elders agent Dean Malcolm who co-ordinated the sale confirmed that buyers came from Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria and Tasmania. To sell animals that will continue Llandovery’s work from north Queensland to Tasmania is fantastic, Dean said. Really in the end, it was great promotion for Llandovery, the Illawarra breed and people who visited the farm, also got the chance to see the operation and to appreciate other animals. It was great to see a number of animals go to owners of different breeds. It brings more diversity and interest into the breed, which can only be positive. Tony thanked Elders’ Dean Malcolm and David Patterson for their effort on the catalogue and sale organisation, Elite Livestock Auctions for supplying the online medium and the general help and support of fellow breeders and friends, Laurie Chittick and James Breen.
