22.01.2022 Premiering Friday July 17 at 7pm AEST. Click 'Get Reminder' to be notified when this video is live. It will populate in this post automatically. Our Principal Cello Timo-Veikko 'Tipi' Valve delivers a heartfelt solo concert from Richard Tognetti's home featuring Bach's Cello Suite No.2 alongside Sibelius's Theme and Variations for Solo Cello. Tipi shared with us his motivation for performing and filming this program: ... I had this massive craving to play a proper concert, to prepare a program and to play for someone, anyone really. I needed to put on my concert shirt and play live, rather than just record. So, I took my cello and went to Richard T’s house and played a concert for him. Well ok, we filmed and recorded it as well so that we can share it with everyone, but at least I had this one person to play for at that moment. At the time it was the closest to an actual concert experience I could get. While I desperately wanted to perform, it didn’t seem right to play something overly joyful. I wasn’t playing to lift my mood or the listener's mood. I was just trying to express it. I always turn to Bach, it somehow resonates with all situations, but I also needed to play something from home, from Finland. Both of the works I chose for this concert are in the contemplative key of D minor, a key that corresponds well with the Finnish melancholic spirit. The mood of this performance was also set by the very sad news of my Medici patron and long time ACO family member Peter Weiss' passing. I’d like to dedicate this performance for him." 02.01.2022 Premiering Friday 5 June, 7pm AEST. Click 'Get Reminder' to be notified when the video is live. It will populate in this post automatically. For her first solo ACO HomeCast, ACO cellist Melissa Barnard gives a sparkling performance of Bach’s Courante from the G Major Suite, recorded on a south coast beach in New South Wales.... Melissa says of the work: I took my cello to the beach to play some Bach I’m not sure that Monsieur Vuillaume from Paris who made it could ever have imagined it played on the beach in Australia! But being outside in nature and by the ocean has been a happy escape from the connement of these times. The Courante from the G Major Suite is bright and cheerful and seems to complement the dancing of the wind, the waves and some small but vigorous locals on the beach.
