24.01.2022 External Cornice Moulding almost complete. Definately put my little spindle moulder machine through its paces. It has done me proud. Think I'll give it the afternoon off today.

23.01.2022 New Staircase installed in Exmouth with expert assistance from master carpenter and builder Steve Partridge.

22.01.2022 A quick spot of knotting on this pine door frame prior to priming will ensure the knots on the timber are all dried up and won't be leaking any yellow sap. You do knot want that coming through the paint.

22.01.2022 Lovely new beach kitchen worktop, sink and new cabinet installed in an old quirky building in Fore St Exeter. Final coat of the worktop oil was finished on site, I love how the sunlight hits the gleaming orange beach wood through the box sash window. @ Exeter, Devon

20.01.2022 Curved Bay Window. Finally got to see this beaut of a window I built a few years back. I've been meaning to pay a visit and today I got to see it installed and looking pretty damn fine in the evening sunshine. @ Topsham, Devon

19.01.2022 There he is, my new apprentice. Bobby Robson. He's very enthusiastic, but he does have a tendency to flap about. He'll learn.

19.01.2022 Bespoke Wardrobe made to fit the exact shape of a corner in a newly converted attic bedroom. This wardrobe was made from birch ply and edged with hardwood, which provides a clean and smooth finish. To make this project I had to design all the parts to be flat packed, so I could easily carry each part to the top room and assemble it there. ... All surfaces were primed in the workshop. If you are looking for a new wardrobe or any cabinetry to fit any shape of a room, then please get in touch and I'll be happy to discuss your new wardrobe design with you. Thanks for looking @ Silverton, Exeter, Devon

17.01.2022 Working with expert paint finisher @calbroughton who has done a magnificent efficient job in priming the cornice panels and moulding. Not only is she great at her work she is also a brilliant mum too and has helped me on all sorts of technical finishing applications to do with the joinery and furniture that I make.

17.01.2022 Pine book shelves installed in alcoves. Made, primed and finish painted these book shelves are held in position by strong fixings through brackets which span the back and two sides.

15.01.2022 The Carpenter He selects the wood very carefully The grain and the colour so beautifully Looking along the edge it's straight ... And feeling it, it has a good weight Remember to measure twice and cut once Is the rule of thumb before you pounce. He knows the work and the craftsman's tools As he saws, planes and sands to carpenter's rules The joints are a woodworker's art and a pleasure to see When glued together, strong and straight it will be. The last piece of the carpenter's work is at hand. To finish is to wax the wood for a look that's grand Wonderful wood full of carbon is ecological The carpenter stands back in his craftsman's call Working with your hands shows a skill so good As he works his magic cutting and shaping the wood. by Paul Warren

14.01.2022 Alternate Pine Space Saver Stairs. My last project of 2018 was to build and install this striking space saver stairs. I have had some fantastic projects this year, but I have to say I think I have enjoyed making this unique looking one the most. The stairs are designed to save space by allowing the pitch angle of the stairs to be up to 70, where as a usual staircase would be 42. ... Thanks to Graham for helping me get the stairs in. (That was a mission) and hope you and the family enjoy using them. @ Exeter, Devon

13.01.2022 Square-ing round table legs with hand plane.

12.01.2022 Windows and doors restored and installed into this lovely little garden house in a Devon village. I am especially proud of the wide panelled front door which came to me in a very weathered state. After a successful operation on the Joinery bench now this door has a new life!

11.01.2022 Installed this Larder kitchen shelving piece today. I love the curves on this one, what a beauty! Also the light and shadows look very striking. Thanks to my clients for having such great creative ideas. Nothing is straight or boring when working with these guys. @ Exeter, Devon

10.01.2022 Sliding Doors. Finished the other side of the top room sliding doors today. These 6 doors slide on a track which spans the entire side of the attic room where the roof pitches down to cover individual storage spaces. These doors are made from Birch ply with Ash lipped around the edges. (See previous video). ... The doors are then thoroughly sanded before being finished with a grey dye and then 2 coats of varnish, applied with expertise by a very methodical and hardworking Cal Coombes I really like how the dye has revealed the swirly grain pattern in the birch ply. Looks like a still picture of water. Very happy with how these have turned out. @ Exeter, Devon

09.01.2022 Big job for Broughton Joinery this month. Manufacturing a huge window and cornice moulding for a shop front. Boss is cracking the whip so better get back to it!.

04.01.2022 Pine Dining Table with two benches. Discussed and designed with my clients to neatly fold into the corner of their kitchen when not in use and easily pulled out at meal times. With no sharp square corners the curved right hand side provides an easy movement around the table. ... The breadboard ends allow for seasonal movement of the timber and mortice and tenon joints inside the legs and feet will ensure this table is strong and long lasting. A grey tint was rubbed on to the timber before it was coated in hardwax worktop oil giving a tough finish and an eye catching look. I've really enjoyed this one! @ Exeter, Devon

04.01.2022 5 Bar Gates, behind the scenes. A big thank you to the brilliantly talented Cal Coombesfor her fantastic contribution with the sign writing and also Ben Boyland for his expertise and extra pair of strong hands. This project has been a joy. On to the next one. A space saver staircase. @ 1-2-Tree: Carpentry & Joinery

03.01.2022 Arched ledge and brace back gate/front door. This pressure treated timber gate was made not only as a back gate but also as the front door to the house, so it needed to be strong, secure and also look the bees knees! As you can see the wall on the hinge side had decided to lean considerably to the left, so I first had to build the frame upright to make it level. I actually really like the organic way the frame fits next to the wall and the arched top gives the gate it's own u...nique look. Together with handsom green hinges and all the security locks this back gate/front door gate should stand strong and be pleasure to use for years to come Lovely jubley! Thanks for Sean and Kev for the work and Ben Boyland for his helping hands too.

02.01.2022 Kitchen Island Shelves. This time last year my clients and I began the first planning and designing of there completely unique kitchen. From intricate drawings, cardboard cut outs, a lot of cardboard cut outs! Each cabinet was made, piled and primed and then installed. Today I installed the last part of the kitchen, the island shelves. ... These shelves mimic the shape of the marble worktop island and literately hang from the ceiling. I love doing this work and the best days are completing work for clients who have crazy but brilliant ideas.

02.01.2022 What a year 2019 has been for my woodworking business, I feel incredibly grateful to have had the trust of all my clients to complete some amazing projects this year. Thank you to all of you. Of course it's been hard work and at times running the business is exhausting, but I love what I do and being commissioned to create furniture and Joinery for people is wonderfully rewarding. Here's to another year of hard work and many more projects to come.

02.01.2022 Oak, 5 Bar Gates. What a great build this was, loads of fun. Lots of tricky cut outs and big glue ups. These gates are are made with through tenons on the bars which are wedged in the mortices on the styles. Braces are bolted together. Can't wait to hang them next week. @ 1-2-Tree: Carpentry & Joinery
