19.01.2022 This footage was taken at Hermidale this week - the largest reported swarm of locusts this season. Landholders should be on the lookout and report immediately if they see any suspected locust activity. Adult locusts can be readily distinguished from other species by the large dark spot on the tip of the hindwings and distinctive scarlet hindleg shanks. Adult body colour is variable and can be grey, brown or green. 13.01.2022 Landholders urged to be on the lookout for locusts Landholders are being reminded to report any sightings or locust activity to LLS to help biosecurity experts stop the destructive insects from spreading. This is of particular note in the Hillston area where we have recently had some reports of locusts. ... Reporting by landholders helps to build a picture of the statewide situation and are used to forecast locust movements, breeding, impacts and required control strategies. Local Land Services are continuing to build a statewide picture of the locust situation and plan for movements, breeding, impacts and required control strategies thanks to landholders reporting sightings. Landholders that are unsure how to distinguish a locust from a grasshopper should look for:... a large dark spot on the tip of the hindwings and distinctive scarlet hindleg shanks adult males measure 25-30 mm long while females are 30-42 mm long adult body colour is variable and can be grey, brown or green.
