We were recently asked to assist a senior citizen in the local community, her premium from NRMA appeared to be excessive, especially when the policyholder has been with the insurer for 65 years with only 2 low cost claims made. If there was truth in advertising, they would list a Loyalty Tax on the renewal. Instead they claim The longer you stay with us and keep your eligible policie...s, the more you can save. We contacted NRMA to enquire why the price was so high given a comparable policy with Allianz would only cost $1,530.28. NRMA were not interested in keeping this policyholder due to her age making her a bad risk. Today the policy of 65 years was cancelled and a new policy was taken out with Allianz who dont charge extra for Choice of Repairer. The price difference for our client was $1,461.73. Despite a Royal Commission into Financial Services making adverse findings about unacceptable behaviour, the message here is simple, there is no loyalty with insurance, consumers need to shop around for the best deal. If only the NSW Government would help build an online comparison tool to assist consumers wanting to compare Comprehensive insurance the same way they assist with CTP insurance.
