11.01.2022 Today, another tour of Martindale Hall with Dr Georgina Downey was held. Sharing again these images I made from this time last year, 'pre-Covid' and all the changes it brought to visiting historic houses and properties. Wonderful to see these significant places opened again to visitors.

07.01.2022 Last weekend I had the pleasure of photographing the interior of Martindale Hall in Mintaro, SA. I joined Dr Georgina Downey on her ‘Martindale Hall - Marvel of the Mid-north’ tour, which discussed aspects of the intimate lives, and lifestyles, of the Bowman and Mortlock families, the two most prominent owners of this extraordinary Italian inspired mansion. Many tours of this kind focus on key events and other ‘plot points’ in often abstract renditions of other people’s remot...e lives. What is different on Georgina’s tours is the intricate and erudite telling of not only historical details, but also of the complexities and, at times difficult, complications of who these people really were. Walking around this vast but very private interior with Georgina gave us much more than an ordinary tour of one of SA’s grandest house museums. It opened a necessarily unresolvable conversation between the wavering timelines of public wealth and private despair, colony, creation, and country. Selected images follow ... See more
