25.01.2022 In amongst the current situation and happenings in the world of late, we have slightly overlooked the 1st year anniversary (1st and a little bit) since Ian Flannery joined the LML family! So, just a small break from the standard news feeds to send a huge shout out to another one of our industry veterans, KONE specialist, and all-round nice guy, Ian! Chatting to Ian earlier, I was again amazed by his overall level of expertise, and all the different experiences and roles he ha...s had during his industry journey thus far. Ian has more than 38 years of industry experience, having initially served an Apprenticeship with Precision Elevators in 1982. He then spent a number of years installing, commissioning and testing Lifts at Schindler and KONE. Ian worked across many major projects in the 80's and when it was EPL/KONE, on some of their first projects such as 140 William Street, Royal Women's Hospital and 367 Collins Street. In more recent times, Ian was the Technical Service and Training Manager at KONE Elevators, and Technical Service Team Leader and Field Trainer. Ian's focus and passion has always been in the technical, testing and training areas and our Clients truly benefit from his technical experience and practical customer focused advice. 19.01.2022 A number of years ago we were asked by a Facilities Management partner to put together a brief overview of a Machine-Room-Less Lift for their team, just to give them a greater understanding when dealing with their maintenance providers. We decided that a short video would be the best approach, and although this particular video was filmed in one take and unscripted on Dean‘s iPhone (and my annoying voice is included), my kids pointed out that it has had over 15,000 views, which would suggest that there is a reasonable level of interest in this kind of thing. What are your thoughts? Are people interested in seeing more of this in the future and learning about what happens behind the elevator doors?

17.01.2022 Hi all, first and foremost we hope that you and your families are safe and well! Just a quick check-in and sharing of practical information, when it comes to the use of Lifts and the ways in which we can help to stop the spread of COVID-19. We have put together some simple and practical guidelines, based on the world health organisation guidelines, as follows:... 1. Where it is possible try to travel alone in Lifts (or with as few passengers as possible), unless accompanying elderly, children or disabled requiring assistance. Avoid crowded Lifts. 2. Avoid touching your face, eyes, nose or mouth and cover a cough or sneeze with the crook of your elbow of a disposable tissue (this applies when travelling in a Lift, or as a general guideline). 3. Avoid touching handrails, or Lift buttons (more than necessary ie. pressing the destination floor). Wear a disposable glove if possible and wash hands after use with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. 4. Where possible, temporary alcohol-based gel or sanitiser stations should be provided in Lifts. Please feel free to use, distribute, or place the attached document inside your Lift. As always, we are always happy to have a chat (doesn’t have to be about Lifts). Stay safe folks, we'll get through this together!

17.01.2022 LML SAFETY DAY 2020 With safety being our focus and at the forefront of all we do, LML pause and take a day out of our busy operations to bring our national team together and discuss all things safety. It was such a magnificent and worthwhile day, creating engagement, discussion and team brainstorming, about all things health and safety. We had over 300 years of combined industry experience step into LML HQ yesterday and we are so incredibly proud of our team, their experie...nce, knowledge and know-how. Obviously having a group of "Lifties" together resulted in sharing of some industry stories, generally starting with "remember the time that...?". We presented our "outstanding employee" award, but simply couldn't differentiate between the efforts and level of commitment shown by all our staff... so everyone received this award equally! Just to top off the day, we were spoilt with an amazing spread of delicious food that just kept on coming, supplied by Ian's wife! As we continue to grow, it has never been more important to keep health and safety as our priority!

13.01.2022 And another Lift modernisation project ticked off the list at the award winning Holiday Inn on Flinders, in the Melbourne CBD. This project consisted of the full upgrade of 2 Guest Lifts and 1 Guest/Passenger Lift. Broadly speaking, the Lift works comprised of the replacement of hoisting machines, using energy efficient synchronous machines, providing efficiencies of up to 95%, which were installed in conjunction with the latest technology microprocessor controllers. The tota...l modernisation package, which also includes car and landing door equipment upgrades, along with all signalisation and Lift car interior finish upgrades, results in significant energy reductions with reduced heat loads. We are delighted and very proud to deliver another high-quality project, which will provide Holiday Inn on Flinders with an efficient, reliable, and safe Lift service well into the future, as well as creating a significant point of difference! 12.01.2022 Just wanted to provide you all with a small break from the current situation and happenings in the world, by sending out a huge shout out to industry veteran Tony Spalliera, who today celebrates his 4 year anniversary since joining the LML family and under the current state of play does so remotely from his home office! I had a chat to Tony earlier today and asked him to talk me through his industry journey thus far and I must say that I was truly blown away by the level of... experience this guy has, as well as all the different roles he has had in the industry. I wish I took some more notes, but what I do know is that Tony started in the industry back in 1974 as an Apprentice with OTIS Elevator Company in Melbourne and stayed on with OTIS until 2003. He was involved across all the various departments during these 29 years in a variety of roles including; Service Technician, Leading Hand, Adjuster/Tuner, Service Supervisor, Service Manager, Sales roles and Superintendent. Tony then joined ThyssenKrupp in Melbourne from 2003-2016, mainly in Account Management type roles. As a specialist in installation, modernisation, repairs and maintenance, our Clients truly benefit from Tony's experience and practical customer focused advice. 08.01.2022 Very thankful that our annual LML Christmas gathering could go ahead as planned with the majority of the LML family, despite all the uncertainties this year presented, especially in Victoria. As is always the case, we have a lot of fun whenever we bring the LML family together. Was in fact way too busy having a laugh and a chat that we only remembered to get a couple of happy snaps during the evening. When we refer to the team as the "LML family", we mean it! What makes LML s...o very special is the amazing people, and their partners and families as well. Such a great support mechanism we have in place with one another, which was clearly apparent during these recent challenging times. 07.01.2022 VET Business New Trainee Appointment We welcome Charlotte Hoddinott who joins the LML team as part of a school-based VET traineeship in Business & Administration. The VET school-based traineeship gives students the opportunity to learn practical skills outside of the classroom and help to develop skills to kick-start their careers whilst still studying.... Charlotte is currently undertaking her Victorian Certificate of Education and the practical training undertaken as part of the VET traineeship will result in a Certificate III in Business & Administration. During Charlotte’s spare time, she is typically working in her hospitality job, going out with friends & family, or binge watching TV shows on Netflix. I know it is going to be a big year, as I learn to balance the pressures of Year 12, completing a traineeship and maintain my other commitments, but I'm excited for what the year holds and the new things I will learn along the way. I’m grateful that the LML team are willing to show me the ropes, so I can receive my Certificate III in Business & Administration. We are excited to have Charlotte join the team, and happy and proud to be part of the VET program and assist through this exciting journey. We are proud to officially handover the fully modernised passenger Lift today, on behalf of Gail Robertson and Network Pacific, which serves 116 Queen Street, Melbourne. Broadly speaking, the project consisted of the installation of a new energy-efficient gearless machine, new micro-processor controller, speed govenor replacement, car and landing door equipment upgrades, car interior finishes and fixture upgrad...es, as well as code and regulatory works. Some additional building works were also undertaken including new stairs on the roof of the property and safety guarding. Everything sparking clean and what great ride quality! It never ceases to amaze and disappoint us when we find safety switches which are made inoperative, or on an equally bad par... removed all together! ... Why are escalator missing hatch cover safety switches regularly tied up, or bridged out???

07.01.2022 As part of our ongoing research into touchless Lift technologies, LML has just completed the installation of a Voice Calling Unit, to enable car call buttons to be activated via a voice command. This particular installation still retains the current security protocol ie the security card must first be presented. These units are easy to retrofit to conventionally controlled Lifts, have a high recognition rate and can also work offline. The landings also had gesture call de...vices fitted enabling the Lift to be called from the landing by simply swiping your hand upwards, to place an up call, or downwards to place a down call. Turns out we have just completed our 1000th project (or to be exact, 1003 at time of writing). Periodic independent inspection of lifts and escalators is a very effective means in establishing the servicing levels and assisting in the improvement of the reliability, Safety and longevity.

03.01.2022 Independent Vertical Transportation audits work! Time and time again we see the effectiveness and great results that independent Lift and Escalator equipment audits bring, particularly when they are implement on an regular basis, with any defects identified closely tracked and monitored until completion. Here's another recent example... LML were first commissioned to undertake a Maintenance and Condition Audit of three (3) Lifts at a Melbourne CBD property in 2018, with annua...l equipment audits implemented again each year since. During the last three (3) years, the number of defects identified during each audit undertaken decreased steadily, and in addition there was also a significant improvement in the number of equipment malfunctions, with ZERO callouts being recorded in the most recent 12-month period. ZERO Lift malfunctions = great point of difference! The graph included shows the decline in the total number of defect items identified and number of recorded callouts, or equipment malfunctions.
