09.01.2022 Common Speech Pathology myths... Myth #1: Speech Therapy is just about talking! Speech Therapy isnt just about talking its about the different ways people c...ommunicate. This can involve a broad array of tasks including verbal communication, language comprehension, sign language, or the use of communication aids. Its also about working with someone to safely eat, drink and swallow their food. See more

01.01.2022 Janes Top Ten Tips for being a Super Parent: 1. For safety reasons, do not tidy your house. If burglars do come to your home, they will take one look through t...he window, think someone has beaten them to it and give up and retreat. 2. If you want to make friends at the school gate, never tell the other mums you had a good nights sleep. This will spread more envy than if you arrived dripping in Louis Vuitton. 3. If you are planning on surviving parenthood, large supplies of chocolate are going to be necessary. You will spend a large amount of your time attempting to hide your supply from your children. The only place where your chocolate in 100% safe from thieving hands is in the vegetable drawer of your fridge, buried under large quantities of Green Things. Rest assured this is the one drawer of your house your darling ones will never open. 4. Being a parent can sometimes be very lonely. The most tried and true method and achieving adult conversation is to make a last-minute dash to the shop looking like Death. Make sure you have no time to apply make-up, redo yesterdays ponytail or locate matching socks. This is 100% guaranteed to have you running into either someone you havent seen since high school, an ex-boyfriend or half the school mum population. Naturally, this will be the day when none of them are busy and have all the time in the world to engage you in prolonged conversation. 5. Convincing your children to consume a vegetable is a daily challenge which has had parents ripping out their hair since the beginning of time. The only really fool-proof way to ensure they eat their veg is to: a.) spend several hours researching which delicious, nutritious, cost-and-time-effective recipe you are going to cook for your family b.) visit three different supermarkets and two farmers markets to locate all the necessary ingredients c.) once finally located, purchase only the exact amount of each veg required for the recipe in a concerted effort to not cause waste d.) meticulously chop the exact quantities of each required vegetable and lay out on your kitchen bench ready to start cooking the meal e.) nip to the bathroom for 90 seconds f.) return and find your cherubs have miraculously acquired a profound love for anything that grows in the ground and have demolished three quarters of your carefully prepared vegetable supply as they walked past the kitchen. NB. If your child is one of those mutants who actually enjoys vegetables and you are planning on letting Jane know this, you are a very brave person indeed. 6. Attempting to get an overtired child to sleep is torture in its purest form. The only surefire way to get your child to sleep is to make sure you are taking your child to a Very Important Event. Buy your child a very expensive outfit for the event, preferable one that they will grow out of very soon so this will be the only occasion for them to ever wear it. Following these simple steps, your child is guaranteed to fall asleep in the car on the way to the event, despite it being a time of day when they have never before fallen asleep. They will sleep throughout the entire duration of the event and only wake up as you pull into the driveway when you arrive home. 7. You will end up reading many articles about an elusive thing called Me Time. Jane is not sure who exactly writes these articles, but she is fairly certain they are people who have never actually had any children. The only way to successfully incorporate Me Time into your day is to get your child to play hide and seek. When it is your turn to hide, you must hide in a very sneaky place so that it takes your child an exceptionally long time to find you. When it is your turn to seek, suggest to your child that you count to 300 slowly to give them enough time to hide. Your child will think that you are incredibly generous and you will have just bought yourself 5 minutes of blissful silence. 8. Children are exhausting, but they are also very useful, particularly when it comes to getting out of events which you do not wish to attend: Im so sorry I cant come to your fourth Tupperware party this year my son has a ghastly cold! Please accept our apologies for not being able to attend your barbeque with your nauseatingly boring friends - my daughter has come out in hives! This obviously works better when your children are young and unable to give the game away when you bump into the Tupperware and barbeque hostesses the following week and they inquire after your childrens health. 9. Always keep an emergency supply of toilet paper stashed somewhere. If you do not do this, the one time you run out will be the one time in the entire year you ask another family over for dinner and you will go down in neighbourhood folklore as the pinnacle of slothfulness. The only people who will ever talk to you thereafter will be the ones who are grateful that their own questionable parenting skills pale in comparison to your own. 10. Being a parent is expensive. This is mainly because of all the wine you have to drink in order to stay sane. Make sure you join a decent wine club.
01.01.2022 Happy Halloween!!
