23.01.2022 Yesterday we went out to Kolora lodge to visit See the Master!! He has spent the last 10 weeks spelling! Wow what an improvement! He was full of cheek and decided it was a fun game to let us near him than run away bucking, squealing and licking his lips! He is a completely different horse from the horse we received which was tired and hadn’t had a proper spell his entire career! We are looking forward to seeing what he does on the track now he is fresh and playful! This morning his holiday is over and he will be going into pre-training at Kolora. He did well in QLD last time he was up here and we are hoping to see that again!

23.01.2022 MEDIA RELEASE 5 June 2020 Country Horse Trainer In Brisbane To Support Terminally Ill Father During Final Weeks Evicted By Race Club - Forced To Choose Between Abandoning Horses Or Dying Dad Queensland Racing Minister And Qric Refuse To Intervene Early this year Gladstone racehorse trainer Ben Loakes discovered that his father had been diagnosed with terminal pancreatic cancer and had only months to live.... Desperate to spend his last days with his Dad, Mr Loakes relocated his family and his small stable of horses to Brisbane, and was granted temporary stable accommodation in a largely disused area of the Eagle Farm race track, which is slated for imminent demolition. Only one other trainer operates there, and there are approximately 30 vacant stables in the precinct. The stables are owned and managed by the Brisbane Racing Club (BRC). Late last month the BRC ordered Mr Loakes to leave the stables with less than 2 weeks notice, stating that his visiting trainers permit had expired, and that he was not eligible to apply for an extension because he didn’t have 12 horses in training. I never held a visitor’s permit Loakes said. I wasn’t required to. They’re only for trainers from interstate and overseas. And others have less than 12 horses in work. Why am I being singled out? Licensed racehorse trainers in Queensland are permitted to train anywhere in the State. The RC website reveals that at least two long-term tenants at Eagle Farm, including internationally successful Group 1 winning trainer Danny Bougoure, have only ten horses in training. Loakes said that after receiving the notice from the club, he secured space for his horses in privately owned nearby stables but was unable to move the horses until they became available on 20 June. I told the BRC this and begged them for a 2-week extension Mr Loakes said. But they refused to give it to me, and on Wednesday afternoon QRIC intervened and directed me to leave Eagle Farm by 6pm this Saturday night If am forced out on the weekend my horses will have nowhere to go he said. My only option will be to walk away from Dad and take them back to our stables at home in Gladstone or leave them on the streets so I can stay. I can’t do that. What decent person who loved animals could? Mr Loakes said that his wife had contacted QRIC Commissioner Ross Barnett about the issue yesterday, and met with the senior adviser to QLD Racing Minister Stirling Hinchliffe, but neither would intervene to assist, saying that it was a matter between Loakes and the BRC. I just can’t understand why this is happening to me Mr Loakes said. Where is the humanity? Where is the care for my horse’s welfare? I just feel sick. 14.01.2022 Hi everyone, I would like to personally thank everybody for all of there support. It has brought a tear to my eye. Especially a MASSIVE thank you to all the trainers who have offered there support and boxes for our horses. yesterday morning at 6am with the help of Archie Butterfly we lodged an internal review application with QRIC as well as a Stay of proceedings application with QCAT. today the stewards advised they will be accepting the Stay of proceedings. We all know they... didn't have to but they did and for this I am grateful. We will be forever grateful for the help this man has provided, I haven't met you but when I do it's my shout. Today instead of relocating my horses I was able to spend the day punting with dad in the hospital. This is something he and I have enjoyed for many years. Days like the Stradbroke have always been big days for us. tomorrow we will be evaluating our options and stabling arrangements to work out exactly what we are going to do over the next 2 weeks. I can't stress enough that none of this would have been possible without the incredible support of you all, every share, every like and every contact made with the minister has helped me enormously! so again a heartfelt thank you to you all!!
