22.01.2022 Competitive dressage is recognized as one of the three equestrian Olympic disciplines. Special classes like the musical freestyle offer creativity and individua...l expression for the exhibitors and have become spectator favorites! This winning Grand Prix Freestyle performed by Adrienne Lyle and Salvino earned them a personal best score of 83.560% this past summer at CHIO Aachen! If you compete in dressage, post a photo in the comments below! 22.01.2022 Today at approximately 0955hrs Kendal White watch along with Milnthorpe On-call, Kendal On-call & SM Leather were mobilised to a large animal rescue in the Kend...al area. A horse had become trapped in an access pit to a slurry store approximately 1mx1m. The horse named Angel was 26 years old, and as you can see by the pictures she was well and truly trapped. Crews worked tirelessly, along with the farmer to free the horse, utilising the farmers two diggers and tele-handler. The crews quite literally dug the horse out, then using C60P1 animal rescue kit lifted the horse to safety. This was a very difficult job in difficult conditions. A huge thanks must go to the Milnthorpe crew; their knowledge of animals and the building trade were priceless. Well done to all involved, a real team effort which lasted approximately 3 hours. The horse was successfully rescued and is now hopefully going to make a full recovery.
22.01.2022 Tuesday Trivia - Did you know... Whilst the horse’s entire face has heightened sensitivity and benefits from gentle petting and grooming, the whiskers are exqui...sitely responsive. They send messages at over 250 miles per hour to the brain to help the horse make sense of its environment and compensate for its blind spots in front. Although trimming the horse’s whiskers used to be de rigueur for show riders, they’re now left intact, as we know how beneficial they are to the horse. In fact, the FEI has new rules that go into effect as of July 2021 that prohibit horses from competing in FEI events if the horse’s sensory hairs have been clipped or shaved. Exceptions to this rule include hairs that have been removed by a veterinarian to prevent pain or to allow veterinary treatment. The next time you’re enjoying time with a horse, watch how it uses its whiskers so carefully. You’ll be glad you let them grow and that they’re now protected in competition as well!

19.01.2022 Before backing your youngster please read - A horse ages roughly 3 times faster than a human. So a 90 year old human is a 30 year old horse. Both very old, usu...ally arthritic, don’t have many of their original teeth left, and very likely retired and enjoying the finer things in life. A 25 year old horse is a 75 year old human. Still works so far. A 20 year old horse is a 60 year old human. At that point where the body doesn’t work like it use to but the brain is all there and wants to be active. A 13 year old horse is a 39 year old human. Middle aged, prime of their life where their knowledge and physical ability are about equal. So let’s get down to the babies and work our way up. A 3 year old horse is a 9 year old child. A child. Not ready for work by a long stretch. We have moved past sending children down the mines. A 4 year old horse is a 12 year old child. Often will do odd jobs for pocket money, maybe a paper round, mowing lawns etc. Basically a 4 yo horse can start a bit of light work to earn their keep. A 5 year old horse is a 15 year old teenager. Think they know it all, cocky, and ready to up their work and responsibilities. Still quite weak and not fully developed so shouldn’t be at their physical limit but can start building strength. A 6 year old horse is an 18 year old human. An adult. Ready to work hard. Pushing your youngster too hard too young will result in failure of many body parts. Joints, tendons, ligaments as well as their brains. Waiting one year at the beginning can give a horse another 10 years of useful working life. Be patient with your pride and joy! This... marbel had been placed in the uterus of the mare while she was racing to make her think she was in foal and stop her from coming into season. Not something l had seen before. See more

02.01.2022 Every morning in Frankfurt, Germany, you might catch a glimpse of Jenny, a horse who goes on a long walk every morning, all by herself. She has been taking the ...same route every morning for 14 years, ever since her owner, now 79 years old, became unable to ride. She enjoys greeting all of the familiar faces along the way, and she stops and gets treats and pettings from some of her favorite humans. The locals treat her like a celebrity and happily clean up after her. A piece of paper is attached to her halter that reads, My name is Jenny. I didn’t run away, I’m just walking. Thank you. But the police get calls frequently from people who don’t know about the arrangement. They are very familiar with the horse and the owner, and there have been no incidents in 14 years. A local veterinarian gives her routine checkups and continues to find her to be healthy and showing no anxiety about her unique lifestyle
01.01.2022 I am proud to announce that I am the official Guinness World Records Title Holder for the highest jump by a horse ridden side saddle. Back in 2011 I decided to ...try beat an unofficial record of jumping 6'6ft by a Australian lady after seeing a pic of her jumping. I made my crazy ambition public. I was then a blank canvas, no showjumping horse, no showjumping trainer, only a Dream. In reflection I thought how hard could this be..., I'll have this achieved in a few months. Well the reality was very different, 2 yrs training, 5 days a week, many horses, many life lessons, over 40 side saddles later. The attempt was scheduled for the 24th Oct 2013, I was at the bottom of the barrel mentally, physically and financially. In 2012 I contacted the Guinness World Records to see if they would verify my record but unfortunately they only had a category for The Horse that jumps the highest, whether is ridden by man woman or child, frontwards or backwards. The Record is still held today by Captain Alberto Larraguibel on Huaso in Chile in 1949. The news was disappointing but at this stage I was to involved in my vision to back out. On the 24th October 2013 I had videographer, photographers, FEI officials, HSI officials & personal friends present to witness my attempts. I had only got the right side saddle 2 weeks before, finding the right saddle was a major struggle. I needed a saddle that was short and light so my horses could release behind and for me I needed a saddle that had not much support as I was relying on my balance and core to keep me in the plate, a real balancing act! On the day I rode SIEC Atlas over the wall, this horse had jumped to the top level internationally and was the ultimate schoolmaster. He fed me confidence and I fed him bravery. We jumped a few walls before the big one. The relief of landing clear over 6'8ft was and still is indescribable. The horse threw his heart over, followed by his body and all I had to do was give him encouragement and hang on. Then I mounted SIEC Oberon to attempt 6'5ft over the triple bar. To date this is the most difficult thing so far in my life I have ever attempted. I had to dig deep mentally but my trusty steed had to do so much more! Hindsight.. I can now see how crazy it was riding 2 completely different horses over 2 completely different jumps and to do it on the same day was extremely ambitious to say the least. 6 weeks ago out of the blue I was contacted by The Guinness World Records to say they would like to verify and recognise my record as it had recieved so much support & attention worldwide. I had to supply alot of footage that they required over the last few weeks, I had to go back & revisit & relive many many memories. Today I am delighted to make this official announcement that I am a Guinness World Records Title Holder. For me it's the equivalent of Olympic Gold. I want to own it, cherish it and celebrate it! None of this would of been possible with out the grass roots of hunting & point to pointing which kept me brave and fit. All the amazing horses that have carried me over many obstacles & terrain. Finally to the support I have recieved from far and wide, Thank You! I am extremely grateful & humbled for all the support I recieve no matter what equestrian endeavor I take on.
