18.01.2022 Sums it up nicely
12.01.2022 The first events of 2021 are upon us! Here are some questions to ask yourself before you jump online and get entering ... Do you and/or your horse need to be EA... registered ? All horses competing in EvA95 and above classes must be registered with EA and hold current EA Competition Licenses. Riders must be Competitive Senior or Junior Members of their EA State Branch. Owners of these horses (if not the rider) must hold a minimum Supporter level EA membership. Horses competing in EvA50, EvA65 and EvA80 do not need to hold current Competition Licenses and are not required to be EA registered (though full or base registration is encouraged). Riders in these classes must be a minimum Participant Member of their EA State Branch. To learn more please see https://www.equestrian.org.au//Equestrian-Australia-Nation page 146 Do you need to be qualified for the class you intend to enter? Combinations wishing to compete at CCN1* level and above are required to meet the qualification criteria at each level. To start in a CCN1*S, non-established or categorised horses and riders must have 3 qualifying results in official EvA95 or Grade 2 Pony Club competition. One of these results may carry 20 Cross Country jumping faults, the other two must be clear of Cross Country jumping faults. All must have incurred less than 30 Cross Country time faults, less than 16 showjumping faults, and scored over 55% in dressage. At least one of these results must be at an official EA competition. To find qualification criteria on further star classes please see https://www.equestrian.org.au//Equestrian-Australia-Nation page 42 Is your attire and tack permitted? EA eventing competitions are run under strict regulations regarding attire and tack. These rules are regularly updated, so it’s worth checking that the gear you intend to ride in in 2021 events is still permissible. Key updates this season include changes to allowed boots for the showjumping phase. Bits, bridles and spurs are also a topic of much controversy with much of what is permitted in the jumping phases NOT permitted in the dressage phase. To discover more please see this quick-fire-guide from the FEI https://inside.fei.org//2021%20Use%20of%20Tacks%20Equipmen Is your helmet and body protector up to standard and helmet tagged? Protective headgear is essential for all phases and must also be worn at all times when mounted on competition grounds. Your helmet must be of a recognised standard and tagged as such by a nominated official. Similarly, body protectors are compulsory for the Cross Country phase and must comply with the national standards outlined in the links here https://www.equestrian.org.au//Equestrian-Australia-Nation Helmets page 144, Body Protectors page 68 If in doubt, ask! Don’t risk being eliminated, carded, suspended or even fined! Ask your coach or an official, message an experienced friend or us at Equestrian SA Eventing! If we behind the Facebook page don’t know the answer to your question straight away, we will find it out and let you know ASAP Happy eventing
06.01.2022 Climbing to high competition levels too quickly, without good solid training foundations, often results in accidents. Always ride and train within the capabilities of you and your horse. Your coach will tell you when you are ready to move up the grades. It’s not worth putting your life at risk, just to win a ribbon. Take the pressure off, stay safe and enjoy your horse and the journey.
