25.01.2022 Definitely looking forward to the impact of this rain on the grass where our chickens have been and of course for the current batch to supplement their diet with more green pick.

25.01.2022 After an early start for Moggill Markets this morning followed by a delivery run, I am looking forward to a bit of an early night. Thanks to all our wonderful supporters for all the purchases today!

24.01.2022 A simple solution that has the added benefit of reconnecting community to their food source and producing meat in an ethical way.

23.01.2022 We will be at The Gap Farmers Markets tomorrow from 6:30. Thanks to the people who have preordered, it is always great to know that we have a few good sales under the belt before we get there. Hopefully I will see a few others there as well.

23.01.2022 Hi everyone, were back for the year - in fact, the next batch of chickens are out on pasture so will be ready very soon.

23.01.2022 This is pretty cool - not really up to passenger size yet but all these technologies make solar viable as full replacement for fossil fuels.

19.01.2022 It has been a somewhat/extremely frustrating week, but we are very thankful for our great supporters. Thanks to you all!!

19.01.2022 My little helper....setting up an area for a rooster and some girls.

18.01.2022 WOW! What great support we have had in the past few weeks. Thanks to all the wonderful people who bought our chicken. Our first Polyface style delivery and no chickens left for sale...

18.01.2022 Running repairs...Obviously the pens are built strong enough to withstand the daily moves across the pasture. However, on their side they needed some running repairs on route to the new location.

17.01.2022 Here are some photos of our chicken shed including features such as: Rammed Earth Walls, easy access laying boxes, compost agitators

17.01.2022 I cant help but reflect further on what the Qld Government changes means to egg production in Qld. I thought a comparison from what large "free-range" egg producers in Qld will do to what we are implementing would be useful. We will build up to have 1000 chickens per 1000m2 based on Joel Salatins Polyface model, which is the same concentration as the new changes will mean in the fixed shed systems in Qld..... but we will usually move them to fresh pasture twice per week.

16.01.2022 Photos showing some of the benefits of producing poultry in a pasture based system...

16.01.2022 The new batch of chickens are just over 2 weeks old now. Each weekend, when they are in the brooder, we add fresh shavings. These guys were very curious and also realised that perhaps there was something on the other side of the wall of the brooder...

16.01.2022 We will be at The Gap Farmers' Market tomorrow with a small quantity of whole chickens, but this time we are bringing parts to sell - our own certified organic fed chicken, and also some free range chicken.

15.01.2022 I can't help but reflect further on what the Qld Government changes means to egg production in Qld. I thought a comparison from what large "free-range" egg producers in Qld will do to what we are implementing would be useful. We will build up to have 1000 chickens per 1000m2 based on Joel Salatin's Polyface model, which is the same concentration as the new changes will mean in the fixed shed systems in Qld..... but we will usually move them to fresh pasture twice per week.

14.01.2022 Two pastured poultry pens loaded up and dwarfing the car.... the obvious question is why?

11.01.2022 So glad to see the rain over the past couple of days and the difference that it is already making - particularly to the strip where the pens have recently been from our last batch of chicken. This current batch will get lots of good green pick to supplement their diet.

10.01.2022 We still have a small number of chickens available for Saturday's delivery run. If you are interested, feel free to comment, personal message or send me an email through the website.

10.01.2022 We had two hens go clucky in the last month and as we had some fertilised eggs from our rooster, we put a dozen eggs under each hen. The light sussex hen didnt do a good job and failed to hatch any eggs, but this plymouth rock who proved to be a good mum last year has done things well and the eggs are starting to hatch, as per the shell in the bottom right of the photo. So far 5 healthy chicks, 1 didnt make and 6 eggs to go.

09.01.2022 We still have a small number of chickens available for Saturdays delivery run. If you are interested, feel free to comment, personal message or send me an email through the website.

08.01.2022 All setup at the Mango Hill Markets for a bit of awareness raising about what we are doing and hopefully selling a few chickens.

07.01.2022 Welcome to all the new people that have joined in the last week. To all our those following us on our journey, we would love to know where you live and how you found out about us, so leave us a comment!

07.01.2022 I spent last night at an introductory session presented by Allan Savory. it was a session focused on the need of urban dwellers to support farmers in a move towards holistic management of agriculture practices. Today, we are spending 4 hours on an overview of implementing holistic management practices. For those of you who have not seen it, this TED talk is well worth a look...

07.01.2022 We will be at Moggill Markets tomorrow morning until 11AM for those of you chasing some of our tasty chicken. We look forward to seeing out wonderful regulars there and hopefully meeting a few new people.

07.01.2022 Looking forward to talking to people about how we produce our chicken at the Mango Hill Markets this Saturday.

06.01.2022 Hi all - we are back from our overseas holiday and have already started our next batch so for those of you who are keen to restock you will have to wait until early September. I will be sending out details soon of the planned first delivery run as well as markets where we will be selling. Cheers!

06.01.2022 What did you get up to this weekend? I spent Saturday checking out the on farm processing facility that Jonai Farms have built on their farm in Victoria. It was a great day of networking with other like minded farmers as part of a "Grow Your Ethics" workshop and adding to the list of ideas to consider for the future.

06.01.2022 Hmmm, prediction of 0.6 to 1.5C temperature increase by 2030....

06.01.2022 The chicks have been out and about including following the hen around when she has got off the nest today. It looks like we will get 7 chicks and perhaps 8 as one egg still hasnt hatched.

05.01.2022 I have always loved old farm barns like this one....probably because it reminds me of one we had on our farm when I was growing up and brings back lots of great memories.

04.01.2022 Thanks to all the new people who liked our page overnight. No doubt due to some great feedback from Mel & Col at Grass to Grill on the taste of our chicken. For anyone interested we have chickens available this weekend so check out our website at www.localpastures.com.au or send us an email to get some more details.

04.01.2022 Hi everyone, we're back for the year - in fact, the next batch of chickens are out on pasture so will be ready very soon.

04.01.2022 Our new location. The chicks have been there since Sunday morning and all seems to be going well so far.

03.01.2022 This morning when I went out to move and feed the chickens, I noticed an eagle standing on the ground next to a pen looking at the tasty morsels inside. It didnt seem too worried by my presence and when I was about 20-30m away, simply flew to a tree near by to observe. Unfortunately I only had my phone to get a photo.

03.01.2022 We will be at The Gap Farmers Market tomorrow with a small quantity of whole chickens, but this time we are bringing parts to sell - our own certified organic fed chicken, and also some free range chicken.

03.01.2022 Now this looks like a bit of fun for the pigs....an extra element to a pig wallow.

02.01.2022 I spent Saturday checking out Jonai Farms and the onsite butchery that Tammi Jonas runs for their ethically raised pigs. Now they want to take the next step and make salami and other tasty pork treats on site so they need a curing room. To do this they are crowd funding some of the costs of construction. If you can help out, or are lucky enough to live nearby, then support this wonderful campaign if you can!

01.01.2022 The unfortunate issue of bureaucratic tampering with definitions and codes that results in the decreasing value of the words written on packaging at the supermarket. Whilst I dont agree with the government making these sorts of changes, no doubt this will just add to the increasing numbers of people who are keen to buy direct from the farmer, which is ultimately a good thing..

01.01.2022 A great day at Moggill Markets - Sold Out!
